Can I Substitute Instant Coffee For Instant Espresso?
Q: My recipe calls for instant Espresso, but no one carries that where I live. Would instant coffee taste the same?
A: Great question! Though it may not taste exactly the same, use the darkest roast of instant you can find and use double the amount. Do not increase the amount of liquid to compensate - this will give you the higher concentration of coffee oils that you would normally get with Espresso Powder. I think this will work just fine. It's a fine substitute. It just won't have the kick and strength of Espresso. It still leaves a good coffee flavor.
