Can I Turn An Espresso Into Regular Coffee?
Q: I want to buy an Espresso machine, but I'd like to drink regular coffee once in a while. If I just add more water, would this make an Espresso taste like regular coffee? Would it be close to it?
A: I guess. Espresso's all about using a relatively large amount of grounds and brewing the coffee really fast. You could probably add some hot water from the machine and make something rather like regular drip coffee. Though I just started working in a cafe, and I'm still a little iffy on the Espresso machine (well, the milk foaming wand, actually. It's still a little screechy and splattery.) You can turn it into more of a coffee-type drink. Many places (like 'Starbucks') sell this drink as an 'Americano', an Espresso with hot water. I would love you to answer my question in this category regarding buying an Espresso maker. No, the grind of the bean is different as well as the method for extracting the coffee (steam versus percolation or drip). Yes, basically adding more water or less coffee will make "coffee" out of an Espresso machine.
