Q: I'm looking to buy a Cappuccino machine, but I want to know what are the best brands? I don't want one of those crappy ones that make bubbles instead of foam. Also, do they require a specific kind of Expresso, or can I just use normal 'Nescafe'?A: I have always used 'Krups' for Espresso machines. My first was a very basic model that made the Espresso in a carafe. The one I currently have is more of a professional model which uses steam to "brew" the coffee. I certainly can say that I trust Krups. Both units have a...
Q: How can I make a Mocha or Cappuccino without one of those fancy machines? I only have a regular coffee maker.A: Mochaccinos and Cappuccinos are both based on Espresso, which is a type of coffee that's brewed under high pressure. In other words, you won't be able to make either of those drinks with your regular coffee maker, but you don't necessarily need a complicated machine, either. You can even get smaller Espresso makers, and even ones that you just use on the stovetop. All you need is a whipper. An old fashioned wiry thing every kitchen has. Pour...
Q: What is an Espresso? What does it taste like

What is a Cappuccino? What does it taste
like? How much caffiene is in a Cappuccino?
Can you cet a decaf Cappuccino?
Does that effect the flavor?
What are some good roasts of coffee bean?
How much does decafenating change the
flavor of coffee?A: Espresso is very strong coffee, and that's exactly how it tastes. Yes, you can get decaf. No, it doesn't affect the flavor. Cappuccino has steamed milk in the espresso. Yes, you can also get decaf...

Q: I have to wait minutes, or else the drinks will burn my mouth. Even the hot chocolate is really hot. 'Starbucks' and local cafes serve drinks at more reasonable temperatures.A: I love hot coffee. My sister in law used to get coffee out of the pot and put it in the microwave because it wasn't hot enough. I like coffee extremely hot, and tea extremely cold. It's the microwave that makes it hot. Don't like your drink too hot? Wait a few minutes, you will be ok. Geez. You people are complaining over something so minimal, AND 'McDonald's' is...
Q: - Hot coffee gives me a lot of heartburn.
- Hot chocolate gives me heartburn from the chocolate.
- Hot cappuccino from the machines at local dairy marts gives me heartburn (and I love this stuff!).
- Hot tea gives me heartburn and acidy stomach.
- Steamed milk is yummy but fattening, and sometimes gives me gas and heartburn from lactic acid.
Is there anything out there that's yummy and DOESN'T have acid, and DOESN'T give you heartburn?A: Chamomile tea might be a good thing to try. It works for me. I have a hiatal hernia, and get heartburn sometimes, even though I take...
Q: My 'Krups XP2000' combo machine just stopped working today (lights won't even go on). Does anyone know of a good combo coffee/Espresso maker for $200 or less?A: I'm a big fan of 'Tassimo'. They cover all the bases, even hot chocolate and teas. I have a Cappuccino every morning. Compared to the price/time at Starbucks, the 'Tassimo' is so much better. Check it out I'm sure you'll be impressed. I've listed the website below to help you get more information http://www.tassimo.com/country_selector/...
Q: Are Espresso beans the same as dark roast coffee beans?
We just bought an Espresso maker, and don't know what kind of beans to buy.A: Espresso beans are roasted dark. I used to manage a coffee shop for 3 years and our Espresso bean wasn't the darkest. In fact, on a scale of 1-10, it was like an 8 roast. We had a darker roast which was a 10 roast.
On another note, it's not the actual bean that determines the "Espresso", it's the grind of the bean. To start out, you can gring your beans for different types of makers....
Q: I have a Mr. Coffee es/cap machine. I know, I know, I got it 'cause it
was only $30 and it was my birthday. I'm more a coffee person, than a
es/cap drinker, so I'm not too sure how bad my cafe mochas are (though
to me they're not all that bad). It is a steam machine, and as I have
been watching this newsgroup for awhile, have found that I've committed
a grave sin.
I got the new DAMARK catalog the other day and was looking through it
(I know, I know, it's not a specialty catalog, but I'm...
Q: And if so, how do you prefer your coffee....plain old coffee with sugar, or cream?
OR
Do you prefer your coffee as Espresso, Cappuccino, or Cafe Au Lait, etc.? Do you buy and grind your own coffee beans or use instant? If you prefer Espresso or a Mocha Latte, do you have a special coffee machine, or buy from your local coffee shop?A: I like Java City coffee, but can only get it at certain places at work. Plus, I have to add cream and sugar, a lot since it is so STRONG, but has a good flavor.
My own...
Q: I'm trying to find a reliable automatic coffee machine that produces a quality coffee - i.e. a frothy Cappuccino, and decently frothed Latte, etc!
It can't be massively big, so probably no more than 500mm wide and 600mm deep. The height isn't so much of a problem.
It must be relatively easy to use and maintain (cleaning etc.). Prices are not as much an issue for the right machine.
It can't take 3 days to make a coffee and quite IMPORTANTLY, the hot water must be hot enough to make tea! At the moment all our current models use the same water...
Q: I used to be a truck driver and could drink black coffee of just about
any quality, as long as it would keep me awake!
Now, in my mid to late 50's I am getting more discriminating. I came
across a Keurig system at an office I was visiting about 7-8 years
ago, and I thought it did a pretty good job. I started watching for a
home unit to become available. They did but they were expensive in
the beginning, costing about $200. They finally came up with an
affordable model and about six months ago I purchased a B40.
I like...
Q: Does anyone have recommendations for the best coffee bean type (roast) and
grind
(course, med, fine) to use when making capuccino?A: There is no one answer. The fact that you are discussing grind in
terms of "course, med, fine" [sic] shows that you have some reading
ahead of you. Additionally, you first make espresso, then use that to
make a _cappuccino_. Randy, it's true, I'm a novice at this. I received a Krups Espresso Mini
Model #963 Electric Espresso/Cappuccino Machine a while back. I don't know
if it's a good one or not, but based on what I read at your web site, you
would probably classify...
Q: Best brand of Espresso/Cappuccino makers?
I am browsing online for one. For those experienced
in home Espresso/Cappuccino machines, what's
your opinion?A: Mine was like $90, but it has a coffee maker. Espresso makers can make Cappuccinos, Lattes, and steamed milk. In the long run, it is much cheaper than getting coffee everyday. I like to buy my own beans and grind them daily. Plus, 'Krupps' is well known, and makes quality products.
'Saeco' http://www.saeco-usa.com/
'Faema' http://www.faema.net/
I have a 'Saeco', and it makes pretty good Espresso at the push of a button.
If you're cheap, 'Bialetti' is the way to go. I have an amazing...
Q: I would like a little discussion on what is the best coffee maker for the
home - Braun, Krups, Master Chef, Mr. Coffee, Bunn, ...A: Of the above selections, I'm familiar with all except MC - and I prefer
Braun, hands down. I love mine... Bunn. Period. Of the 12 or so I've tested in a lab (when I
worked for a large N. American houswares company for a summer) it
brewed the most consistenlty to SCAA's Golden Cup standard.
It also is the quickest brewer out there; a fact which I find
very worthwhile.
Yup. Only home dripper I can...
Q: I just bought a new Espresso machine, and I made a Cappuccino but it was bitter! Am i doing something wrong, or is it supposed to be like that?A: Is it a Steam Espresso Machine (most of the cheap espresso machines are powered by steam)? If it is, then you will get bitter coffee out of it. The reason is that these steam machines use water that is too hot, so the coffee gets over-extracted and therefore bitter.
To make decent Espresso, you need a pump Espresso machine. They are usually quite expensive, but there are a few models for...
Q: Does anyone know what the difference is between the black and silver one, and the brushed silver one? I found the black one is around £40, and the silver one is around £70, but I cant find a difference really. All answers are welcome.A: It's a cosmetic difference. Brushed silver is always more expensive, so it depends on if you leave it out when you're not using it, and if the finish worries you! The coffee tastes really good though, and 'Lavaza' is the best of the readily available coffees.
Enjoy! Is the silver really chrome/stainless steel? That would...
Q: I want to buy a Cappuccino/Espresso machine, but I am not familiar with how to make it. I wanted to know if there are a certain type and/or consistency of beans to get? If you live in Maryland, let me know where I can buy these coffee beans. Any help would be appreciated.A: You need a dark roasted bean usually from Africa or Columbia, but the African beans flavor better. A French Press is the best manner to get the coffee's full flavor.
You want coffee beans that are named Espresso roast.
It is best to get whole bean and ground...

Q: I'm looking for a coffee machine that I can make Cappuccino’s, and Latte's, etc. I have seen loads of different ones on ebay and don't want to spend more than £100.A: I went on ebay just before Christmas and ordered my husband a 'Gagia Espresso Machine' from italy. It was a buy now, not a bid. I got it including delivery for £89 new. It's great, even the fittings, and the European plug socket. A standard computer adapter has the same voltage required and fits perfectly. It's the best thing i've ever bought him we use it every day....
Q: I Am looking for something easy to operate and maintain, with a built in grinder, perhaps a push button thing that pre-measures everything per cup. I've heard of a brand called 'Saeco' (I think it's distributed by 'Santi's'). Would it be cheaper to buy it here in the Philippines, or can I get a better deal in Hongkong? Thanks for any help extended.A: 'SAECO' is a big brand - good quality.
Others are 'JURA' (the Rolls-Royce of Coffee makers), and 'Delonghi'.
I got the 'Delonghi Magnifica' in Germany for a bit more then 40,000 - SORRY! If you want fully automatic...
Q: Can any type of coffee bean be made into a Espresso coffee, Or does it have to be a specific Espresso coffee bean?A: Espresso beans are just dark roasted beans. They can be made from virtually any bean, it's more about how they are roasted. In a pinch, you can use French Roast for Espresso. Espresso is a coffee bean that's been dark roasted the ground fine for use in an Espresso machine. By using different beans, you can change the flavor from Espresso to almost a chocolate flavored coffee drink with out using flavors. The people that roast...
Q: I love to drink Lattes, but hate to pay $4 for one at Starbucks every day. I have made strong coffee with steamed milk, and it's not too bad. Can I just buy Espresso and make it in my coffee maker?A: No, you're not supposed to - I asked them at 'Starbucks', and they said: "You have to get an Espresso maker" (but, i hear ya, about having to go to 'Starbucks' every day - i'm trying to break myself!). It depends on the make and model of the coffee maker. My mother once had one that you could...
Q: My recipe calls for instant Espresso, but no one carries that where I live. Would instant coffee taste the same?A: Great question! Though it may not taste exactly the same, use the darkest roast of instant you can find and use double the amount. Do not increase the amount of liquid to compensate - this will give you the higher concentration of coffee oils that you would normally get with Espresso Powder. I think this will work just fine.
It's a fine substitute. It just won't have the kick and strength of Espresso. It still leaves a good coffee flavor....
Q: I want to buy an Espresso machine, but I'd like to drink regular coffee once in a while. If I just add more water, would this make an Espresso taste like regular coffee? Would it be close to it?A: I guess. Espresso's all about using a relatively large amount of grounds and brewing the coffee really fast.
You could probably add some hot water from the machine and make something rather like regular drip coffee.
Though I just started working in a cafe, and I'm still a little iffy on the Espresso machine (well, the milk foaming wand, actually. It's still...
Q: Can I use an Espresso machine and make awesome Hot Cocoa?
It seems like I see this awesome frothy stuff on top of Espresso always. Can you utilize the same machine to get awesome hot cocoa?A: You sure can, I do it all the time. Mix a little hot milk/water with hot chocolate in a pre-heated mug, then foam the milk and add to the mug stirring gently. Add whipped cream, cinnamon, or nutmeg. Top with a cherry and scream Whooppdee$%@#$Doo. No, you can't. Espresso machines are for Espresso only, but you could add shots of Espresso. What you need...
Q: I recently received a bag of Espresso as a gift. There aren't any instructions on how to make it. Can I use a just a regular coffee pot?A: Espresso coffee is made by forcing hot water under high pressure through very fine ground coffee. Most Espresso blends are just regular blends which are ground very fine so that you can use them in an Espresso machine, but there is nothing wrong with using this coffee with a regular coffee maker as long as you use paper filters so that the grinds do not get through.
You can also get a...
Q: Can I use my Espresso machine to make a regular cup of coffee?
I'd like to use a packet of coffee in a pod adapter instead of tamping ground coffee. Thanks.A: It will probably come out a little on the strong side since Espresso is more concentrated than coffee. I would recommend making the Espresso, and then adding water to it. You will be making an Americano. Why would you want to? They do make coffee machines. Never have done it before, but I do not see why you cannot....
Q: I have a basic Espresso/Cappuccino maker. After about one year of
using it every night, the milk steamer does not produce enough force
to foam milk so that it stays foamed. It foams the milk but the foam
dies down. I can tell there is less force because the sound is less
loud.
Okay, so I do the vinegar thing and it seems to make the steam come
with more force but still not enough.
My question: should I just get another machine or is it worth it to
repeat the vinegar treatment (I did it three times) or is there
something else that...
Q: I was thinking of getting my sister a Cappuccino machine, but it's easier to find an Espresso machine.
I found some are just for plain coffee, Cappuccino, or Espresso. With some machines, you can make all three.
What do you think is my best option? She loves sweet, creamy coffee.A: Cappuccino is just Espresso and steamed milk (to make foam), so, if she has another way of making steamed milk, she can use an Espresso machine, but if she likes Cappuccino, an Espresso machine will not do.
We have a 'Capresso Ultima 121' that makes both very easily, is easy to clean...
Q: I just got a new Espresso machine - but I have no Espresso. Would it be at all feasible to use coffee beans to brew Espresso, or is this useless? What's the difference? If I end up using coffee beans, should I be using a light, medium, or dark roast?A: Espresso is made from coffee beans, ground very finely. They are often called Espresso beans because of the way they are roasted, which gives them their richer and bitter flavor.
Yes, you can most deinitely use coffee beans. Grind them wellpack into an Espresso machine, and enjoy. What kind of...
Q: I have a coffee maker, and brew my coffee every morning. For Christmas, I was given an Espresso maker, but I have 3 or 4 big containers of regular ground coffee. Do I have to buy special coffee for my Espresso, or can I use what I have or grind the grounds that are more finer or something? Help!!A: It tastes best if you use Italian or Espresso roast. You can drink it with the regular coffee though, - it won't blow up or anything. Pre-ground canned coffee would probably be too coarse and make weak Espresso. You could...
Q: My wife got a MR COFFEE
Espresso & Cappuccino maker for
X-MAS, but there were no instructions
on how to work it. Can you help?
E-mail welcome.
THANK YOUA: Just FYI... at last count, Mr.Coffee offers at least five (5) different
models of Espresso & Cappuccino makers. To get you the right
instructions, we'd need to know the model number of the unit you have.
Mr.Coffee "used to" offer instructions online for all their products
in a PDF format. I just checked their site and it appears they no
longer post them. (Maybe the product line / maintenance got to be too
much).
Anyway, in the support section of...
Q: I have recently bought a De'Longhi filter/Espresso/Cappuccino maker. Getting
used to it now, and pleased with the coffee!
However, I have a (stupid?) question: where do I buy the chocolate sprinkles
for the Cappuccino? Better yet, where do I buy a decent dispenser to put it
in?A: Try Drury Tea and Coffee
https://www.drury.uk.com/mail-order/uk-index.htm
They do both dispenser and sprinkles.
By the way, and I speak from personal experience here, the chocolate
flakes are too big to fit through the dispenser lid. I ended up using
mine for cinnamon.
You might have more luck with the chocolate spinkles, however.
Stephen, Get a nice block of good dark chocolate and one...
Q: I have lately been getting Cappuccinos here in the dining hall of my university, and I was curious if anyone would figure that it really isn't a Cappuccino. I mean to say, the machine available offers hot chocolate, English Toffee Cappuccino, and French Vanilla Cappuccino. Would anyone suppose there is no real Espresso in this drink because it certainly does not taste like there is even a hint of coffee flavor in it. It appears as if this machine uses a powdered mix for the milk and added flavors.A: Yes, John, you've figured it out. It's not rocket science....
Q: I just tried cappuccino for the first time at my local Turkeyhill store.
Everyone in our little down raves about this Cappuccino. French vanilla is
the best! I am thinking about buying a Cappuccino maker and trying this
myself at home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!A: I have a problem. I don't really like Cappuccino. The other day
my girlfriend took me to her favorite stall to try my first
Cappuccino in many years, but I didn't like it at all. Perhaps,
it was the froth too dry, or, it was the Espresso too watery.
Like in the post GSVal has said...
Q: Or, will she think that the gift is a subtle way of saying: "Quit making me buy you late night coffee, you, crazy bioch"?A: If she loves Cappuccino, giving her a good Cappuccino machine shows you know what she likes. If you want to make sure she's not thinking you don't want to get her coffee anymore, put an envelope inside the wrapping paper with a home-made "gift certificate" from you "for free cappuccino making services"!I think its a great idea:)....If you are a bit worried, write on the card that she is still entitled to late night coffee...
Q: Sorry if this has been asked before:
What is the best cappuccino maker for about 150 -$200 (I'm in Toronto)?A: Check the Starbucks in the area during the holidays for sales as that
will be your best bet during the holidays. Of course, there should be
no need to mention, that if you do not already have a quality grinder,
you will need to nearly double your budget. A search through the archives
here will help, but basically, the grinder is more important than the machine.
Figure about $150 USD for a good one (depending on what is available up there),
but of course,...
Q: I have just recently tried my first Cappucino, and I am thoroughly addicted (to the 'French Vanilla' anyways)! I was wondering a couple of things: First, what exactly is in Cappucino? And second, does anyone have an at-home Cappucino machine, and is the Cappucino as good as what you can get in the coffee shops? Thanks!A: A. cappuccino is an Italian long coffee, topped with foamy milk, and dusted with cocoa powder. It takes the name from the color of the monks Cappuccini, who wear a habit of the color of milk-and-coffee. Sugar is only added at the table...
Q: I was in K-Mart last night and saw both of these cappuccino machines
for roughly $50 apiece. Now I'm brand new to drinking this tastey
beverage (long time coffee drinker though....) and always get it the
local deli-marts that have the machines, and I'm wondering if either of
these two machines I mentioned make cappuccino similar to the store
machines? Also, are they easy to use? I'd really appreciate any info
that I can get.A: The Braun is widely known as one of the worst espresso machines ever designed.
The idea of a "Betty Crocker" espresso machine is too surreal for me. See...
Q: I just picked up a Cuisinart Iced Cappuccino maker, thinking that I might
enjoy a nice Iced Cappa when the warm weather returns (okay, I bought
early). I notice that it also claims to make 8 one-ounce servings of hot
Espresso at one time. You put the ground coffee into a somewhat
funnel-shaped plastic basket, and then it spins around at a fairly high
speed, and the hot water is forced through the grounds. No pump needed.
Seems like it would be handy for a party situation - steam up a pitcher of
milk with the Gaggia while brewing 4 double shots at once -...

Q: I have hesitated to post here because I am a newbie
coffee/espresso/cappuccino drinker. I have been reading this newsgroup
for a few weeks now and have realized I am out of my "coffee league",
but, if someone out there can help me anyway, I would appreciate it.
I just got a "cheap" at home machine. (To spend $200-$500+ on a home
machine is not a possibility right now.) It is just a Mr. Coffee Details
cheapo machine, but are there any tips on how to make a better cup of
cappuccino? I am not so great at the frothing or on the right
amounts/proportions to...
Q: I need some help learning what I need to make cappuccino. I know this may
upset many of the experts here and this is not my intention. So if the use
of heretical words like Starbucks and budget offend you, then you might not
want to continue reading, hahahaha.
I would like to be able to make my own cappuccino. I grew up not drinking
coffee, but in the last couple of years I've grown to enjoy a cappuccino. I
only know the difference between really back cappuccino and what Starbucks
servers, so I don't have the palate or needs that many of you have. My...
Q: This morning, I was all excited to open presents because I saw a lot of presents under the tree and usually, my parents and i hang out all morning and have fun.
So I ran to the living room where my parents were and saw they were waiting for me.
I said: "So which ones mine?" and they pointed out a box. I opened it, and it was a sweater set. I wouldn't be ungrateful if i knew we didnt have money, but I know we do, and I would be grateful they even got me something if this hadn't happened:
I...
Q: I recently got an Espresso/Cappuccino maker. The frothing arm has a plastic part (frothing aid) that goes over the metal arm. The plastic attachment is easy enough to clean, but it takes a bit of labor to clean off the caramelized milk on the metal arm. Do you usually clean that metal arm after every cup? After every day? Every week? I've been cleaning it after I was done with it every time, but that changes making a Cappuccino into a 15 minute ordeal vs. maybe 5 minutes.A: Drink the Cappuccino, and then clean it.
Put the arm into a...
Q: I've brewed my own beer, made my own wine, grind my own coffee beans,
etc., so family members looking for the gift "for the guy who has
almost everything", decided on a Mr. Coffee Espresso/Cappucinno Maker
(model ECMP30/33) Bistra. I opened this up and I am pretty excited to
get things rolling. I must admit over the last several years I have
either been getting bored with coffee or have inadvertently been
sucked into the carmel macchiato, International carmel coffee
flavoring and the likes. I can't explain it. Anyways, I now have an
Espresso machine and some Espresso beans, airtight containers, two
syrups ... I can't wait to...
Q: I've seen in the Sears holidays catalogue a Mr. Coffee (huh?)
Espresso/capucino machine which sells for a ridiculously low price (less
than $75.)
Anyone have experience with this model? Reliability, milk steamer
performance or any problems information would be appreciated.
BTW; anybody else read the coffee article in the last Utne Reader?A: I own one which I no longer use. It makes strong coffee but I
would stop short of calling it Espresso. After having Espresso made
by baristas using professional units I find the Mr. Coffee unit
unacceptable.
The argument has been made here that steam driven units such as
the Mr. Coffee machine cannot provide the pressure...
Q: Hey Coffee Peeps,
I was @ Wal- Mart today, and I passed by a display for a Mr. Coffee
Espresso/ Cappuccino Maker. Remembering the bad experiences I had the last
time I bought an Espresso maker from Wal-Mart years ago (a Magic Chef
"steam toy") Well, this was way before I knew anything about Espresso and
thought I was getting a great deal for $29.99. Well, it started to leak and
the carafe broke and I returned it. Now that I know A LOT more about the
wonderful art of Espresso thanks to www.coffeekid.com, and needed you guys's
advice. Should I buy...
Q: I know it may sound like an odd question, but is it okay to drink coffee and/or Espresso while I'm pregnant? My fatigue is so strong I can barely stay awake at work. Naps just make me even more tired. I just don't know how to stay awake and be pregnant at the same time. This is my 3rd child, so you'd think I'd know the answer to this. The truth is, I wasn't working when I was pregnant with either of them, so I had time to sleep all day. Please, any advice on how to stay awake,...
Q: I was wondering if anyone could explain why one cup of coffee can make me a bit jittery, but if I have a 20 oz Latte with two shots of Espresso, it just makes me feel alert? I can't figure this one out. Anybody get this effect or know why someone would?A: Espresso can be made from several different roasts and several different varieties, but the main reason is that Espresso extracts less caffeine during the brewing process.
True, roasting coffee to a darker level burns off caffeine, but again, the brewing process is the key to the reduction. Quality...
Q: This might seem a daft question, but I'm not a coffee drinker, so excuse my ignorance on the subject.
Would you use this coffee machine for making coffee only, or is it more of a Cappuccino making thingy?

I am looking for a last minute birthday present and this seems to be the only one in stock that I can reserve to pick up tomorrow.A: No, I think you can make regular coffee with it, and it also has the frothy milk gizmo as well - which is a bonus. That's a nice present, Yay! Thats the one I have, and...
Q: Coffee (not Espresso!) drink recipes that do not contain alcohol. I don't have an Espresso maker, so that is out, but what can I add to my Joe(hot or cold) to change it up?A: Cold coffee mixed with milk, half-and-half, and chocolate liqueur. Serve over ice.
1 1/2 quarts brewed coffee, room temperature
1 cup milk
1 cup half-and-half cream
1/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons creme de cacao
In a pitcher, combine cooled coffee, milk and half-and-half. Stir in sugar, vanilla and creme de cacao. Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve. If you are using brewed coffee, brew it stronger,...
Q: Hi! We have an Espresso machine at work. Usually, I drink 2 Lavazza Espressos per day. Yesterday, they brought us Cappuccino...made of dry milk. I was wondering...what is healthier: coffee or cappuccino? And what is the RIGHT rate of coffee per day? Thanks!A: I believe coffee is healthier, but a Cappuccino is more tasteful, and for me is like a "guilty pleasure" that I give to myself from time to time......1-3 cups a day is ok. It's probably better to have a Latte, or cappuccino with skimmed/low fat milk. The milk would neutralize the acid in the coffee, and...
Q: My Cindy and I (novices) are looking for a good combo machine.
Understanding we're probably not looking for high end cappuccino, we
would appreciate recommendations. Any ideas?A: I've never used one, but have heard a lot about them. They seem to start at
around $150 and go up steeply from there. In any large chain department
store of discount house, you can get a separate burr grinder and drip
coffeemaker together for $100 to $150 depending on what you get, and whether
you hit a sale, and each separate machine will probably do a better job at
its job than the different parts...
Q: Crema is apparently the layer of light bubbly
stuff that forms on top of good coffee immediately
after hot water is poured into the grounds.
What is in crema that makes it a sign of good
coffee? What does it consist of and why is that
good?A: It's not. Crema is formed only when water is forced under pressure
through finely ground coffee in an espresso machine. It is neither light
nor bubbly, but fairly dark and creamy as the name implies. A coffee that
will produce a lot a crema will also produce some of the foam you describe,
but they are not the same...
Q: If anyone of you have been up late, zombie-like watching TV lately, you
may have caught a glimpse of a fatty Italian fella with a ponytail and a
"magic" cappuccino machine making cappuccinos for half of San
Francisco's residents at some mysterious park in North Beach.
Without entering into the merits of the DeLonghi machine (my opinion,
even without having actually used one is that it sucks, especially since
it is obvously not a pump-driven espresso machine and the "magic" froth
maker is bound to get clogged every other minute and probably requires
very long and tedious disassembling and cleaning after every session),
I'd like to post the...
Q: Have any of you folks experimented with the DeLonghi suite of Espresso
makers?
That is to say... can they make good espresso - good enough to drink?
There's a "19A" Espresso-cappuccino maker on eBay right now.
I use a stove-top right now. Stainless steel is very reliable!A: Yes, I used a Delonghi called at the time the Cafe Treviso but what seems to
be identical to the BAR 140. I have looked at others.
Delonghi is a conglomerate company, from what I can tell, so their Espresso
machines are not necessarily related. Many of the ones I've checked out in
person were steam toys...
Q: I live near a convenient store that sells a generic brand of coffee called 'Beantown'. While they brewed "gourmet blend" (which tastes ok at best), they also have a machine that makes Cappuccinos and hot chocolates, etc. I'm wondering if a Cappuccino (which was quite good) has the same amount of caffeine?A: A Cappuccino has about 100mg of caffeine, while a regular brewed coffee has about 85mg. So there isn't much difference. Unless you drink decaf which only has 3mg.
In Italy, the same quantity.
The sheer size of American Coffee (ie 'Dunkin' Donuts') makes them the Caffeine machines. Usually, Cappuccinos...

Q: I need this information for an industrial design project in college. Does anybody know how tiny the coffee needs to be for it to make a good Espresso?A: There isnt a specified diameter, or measurement for grind size. At least one explanation for this is that each Espresso roast needs a different grind setting to account for differing moisture content, etc, etc. First of all, pleeaassse, do not call it coffee, because coffee and Espresso are 2 completely different things. Espresso beans are what you use to make an Espresso, okay? Anyways, they actually are not that fine, but...
Q: Looking for users manual for 'White-Westinghouse Espresso/Cappuccino maker' Model # WWEX450ZE.
pdf from scanned version would be fine - thanks!A: This appliance is probably only marketed under the 'Westinghouse' brand. I therefore searched for you and found your machine with picture at EBay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...
I then found the following manual that looks very similar to the mentioned machine. I assume that this will help you prepare your coffee:
http://www.coffeecrew.com/content/view/1...look what I found! I will save it for me too:

Q: I recently received a small brick of sealed coffee (albeit Espresso). It's an Italian brand by the name "Caffe Mako." I have a normal drip coffee maker - not an Espresso machine. The Caffe Mako website does not discuss how to prepare their coffee on a normal drip machine.A: Very carefully. I'm joking, use 1/4 the amount per cup you would normally use to make a normal cup of coffee. If thats too weak, use 1/2 the amount. If thats still too weak, you're crazy, stick it in a cup the next time you need a hangover cure, sure...
Q: Does anyone know the name of a coffee drink made of Espresso & sweetened condensed milk? Proportions?A: Railway express
A single espresso
Steamed milk
Condensed milk
If done correctly, the Espresso should sit on top of condensed milk and frothed milk ontop. You will need a Vietnamese press pot for this:
Vietnamese Iced Coffee
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
3-4 teaspoons Vietnamese coffee or other espresso
ice
Place 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk in a tall glass. Add ice. Sit the filter on top of the glass.
Remove the filter lid the turn the center post counter clockwise and remove the screen. Add 3 to 4 teaspoons of...
Q: I was just wodnering whether anyone knew how, or were to get hold of the Cappuccino machines they use in 'Starbucks', like an ex demo one that has been used, but is still working??A: I would imagine OPEN UP A 'STARBUCKS' FRANCHISE. It should only cost about 250 thousand dollars! I would think that the word "Starbucks" would give you a clue that use is a patented coffee maker for their own use ONLY.... but I have seen Expresso makers, and Cappuccino makers at garden varity chain stores like 'Target', 'Sam's Club', 'Wal-Mart', 'Shop-Co'..... etc., so look around in...
Q: Does Espresso really have more caffeine than normal coffee?
I've heard that it is just a myth....can you fill me in?A: It's a concentrated coffee like the Turkish or the Arabic, very strong. It is usually served in a small cup and not more then one inch high. It has greater flavor and is recommended for 'tiramisu cake'. A single Espresso is one "shot" or draw from the coffee blend. Most coffee shops, to make a regular filter coffee, will just top this up with hot water. So...same caffiene if you finish the cup..., just less water! An Espresso cup has...
Q: Do Espresso Coffee Drinks Have The Same Health Benefits As Regular Coffee?A: It's coffee. There are no health benefits other than it being healther than taking energy pills. The difference between the two, is that Espresso in the little cups has as much caffeine and to office size coffee things at one time, so if you drank that and coffee throughout the day, your heart will mess up on you faster.
What is the benefit of coffee drinking? Its' flavor is good, and its costs are high.
Enjoy the coffee. I drink way too much "MUD", Espresso is so tastey,...
Q: My dog just grabbed about 4 licks of my coffee before I caught him. I found online that caffeine is toxic at about 63 mg per pound of body weight. I drink Espresso (made in coffee machine so not as strong) diluted with milk, so it has about 126 mg in the whole cup. If my dog weighs 21lb he can have more than 1200mg before it would kill him. How much will make him sick? If he ever drinks a whole cup in the future should I call the vet, or would it need like a whole pot...
Q: I don't think we are gonna make alot of Espresso, because it's more like 'Boba Tea', and 'Ice Shave Shop'. Do I have to get a commercial Espresso machine, or can I have a home use Espresso machine?A: It depends on volume, but I would say yes.
Plan on spending around 1500 for a decent one.
Check out coffeegeek.com for some price quotes and reviews.

Q: I bought a Mr. Coffee Cappuccino/Espresso machine for my husband for Christmas. He wants french vanilla Cappuccino like at the gas stations, rich and creamy. Do I use french vanilla coffee or something else?A: The french vanilla mix from machines is totally different than actual Cappuccinos.
They use powdered creamer, lots of sugar, and coffee.
'French Vanilla Cappuccino', at a starbucks, is a Cappuccino flavored with french vanilla syrup, which would be similiar to the machine you bought.
Comparing them would be like comparing apples to oranges.

Q: I have an Espresso stand and I need some marketing ideas. What are some creative ideas to get people to stop? Do you think its a good (profitable) idea to put a coupon in the newspaper? Any creative ideas, creative or not, that you have would be great!A: Jess, several things you can do here. First, get on MySpace and Facebook. Put up a profile that highlights you and your passion for the bean. Post articles in the blog that DO NOT PITCH your stand but give away information about the brewing process, where your particular beans come from,...

I'm trying to come up with a cool name for my new coffee shop and am hitting the wall...I'm across the street from my local community college and want to be cool/fun, and not dull.A: A beverage consisting of an infusion of ground coffee beans.

Q: I just got an Espresso machine and I don't know what to put in it. Are there special Espresso beans to use with it, or are you supposed to use coffee beans? I've been using 'Folgers' and it doesn't taste stong enough.A: It's not so much special beans as the roast. Most Espresso is dark roasted, those beans are best ground on the fine setting on a grinder. If you don't have a grinder, you can find pre-ground coffee in the stores or online, just look for dark roasted or Espresso labels. Beans affect the taste of the coffee...
Q: I want to buy a coffe maker that combines drip coffee maker and Espresso
machine but I don't know if this kind of machine is good or not. Can anyone
give some advice? Thanks in advance.A: The only decent combo machine I've seen is the Briel Capri, which combines
a drip coffee maker and a PUMP Espresso machine. Most of the other units,
such as Krups, use a boiler Espresso machine... This kind of machine is fine and quite convenient.
It typically takes up less room than two seperate machines.
The only draw back is that combo machines put together a medium-line...
Q: Which has more caffiene? I always thought that a shot of Espresso was probably the equivalent to 2-3 cups of regular drip coffee. I think this is a pretty common believe amongst coffee drinkers, and so I figure it must have some basis in reality.
However, my sister who is a barista says that it's actually the opposite. A cup of regular drip coffee has the same amount of caffeine in it as 3 shots of Espresso.
Which one is correct?A: Myth #1: Espresso carries more of a caffeine jolt than regular brewed coffee.
FALSE: The 'Illy' caffe blend is obtained by...
Q: Does anyone own a 'Krups xp2070'? I am looking at this one because it is reasonably priced for a pump espresso machine, and has the coffee maker with a timer. Are there any other recommendations for a dual, pump, with a timer? Thanks!!!A: Ha! that's the only coffee maker/Espresso machine with a 15 bar pump and a timer that I've ever seen. I wanted one so bad. I couldn't find that model when I was shopping for them. We ended up getting a nice coffee maker and a nice Espresso machine seperately. I've never seen another one, so I'd...
Q: I´ve found it very hard to find any reviews on the Elektra MicroCasa
Semiautomatica.
Has someone out there any experience with this machine, please share it with
me.A: At least one a.c regular (not me!) would argue that this makes it a very
superior machine indeed, as it can heat 2 liters of water with a tiny
element as compared with other machines with smaller boilers and larger
elements.
Seriously, one wonders if the Euro models of this same machine have higher
heat ratings (corresponding to the more macho power). I expressed myself a tad too elliptically.
I agree with what you say about pumps, although if there...
Q: I'm just about to buy a small home Espresso coffee machine and need some advice from people who have had a lot of experience with them. I have had a Breville (cheapest of them I think, about 4 years old) and am looking at another Breville, and a Krups, both reduced to $199 from $349. Both have a water section and do 1-2 cups. I guess its just a matter of preference, but I would like some hints from anyone who knows anything. A friend who loves her coffee and seems to know a bit said not to get...
Q: Hi, got a pot as a gift, but the packing has no instructions with it.
I know where to fill with water and where the coffee (Espresso) gets put in.
The only thing I am unsure about is: When do I take it off the boil, or do I let it boil?
If so, how long?
Any advice or replys would be welcome.

Q: I know I'm about to do something tantamount to walking into a custom
tailor shop and asking for the "Irregulars Rack", but I just gotta ask
anyway.
Has anybody tried one of the el cheapo Mr. Coffee Espresso makers, the
$30 ECM10 model that WalMart sells,
"http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3179&cat=77978

I'm pretty picky about my coffee, and use nothing but vacuum pots these
days, but I wouldn't know a good Espresso from a bad one, having only
had a couple in my life, other than knowing whether I like the taste, of
course.
So, given the fact that I might make an Espresso a couple times a month
or so, is it possible...
Q: I am relatively new to the world of coffee. Though I have drank coffee for
years, I am only seventeen, and the only coffee I've experienced until
recently was straight Folgers through a regular coffee maker. Recently, I have
frequented several local coffee shops and developed quite a taste for Espresso
and cappucino (not the gas station crap). To the point. I ordered a Delonghi
Caffe Italia Espresso/Cappuccino maker. Has anyone heard about this model? Is
it any good? I realize it is a VERY cheap imitation of the real $300 Espresso
machines, but I figure it's a start. Plus, it's a pump machine not steam
driven,...
Q: I'm going to buy my first Espresso machine.
Are there certain features I shouldn't go without, with a new Espresso machine purchase?
I want a lower end one for affordability reasons,
but i still want a decent one.
Suggestions?A: Having owned more than one, I'm happy to share my opinions with you - my current model, a 'Hamilton Beach' that was highly regarded by Consumer Reports, is pathetic!
Also, maybe you want a little guidance on how to make the best Espresso with whatever machine you buy?
So let's talk in general terms-
I agree that you want a pump-driven machine, at least 15 psi. Another...
Q: I want to spend under 100.00 USD for an Espresso machine. Are there any good ones that last for 2(day) use, with good pressure, and quality in general?A: Any electric pump machines under $100 are imo a waste of money. A good home pump machine will run you at least $300 and goes up from there. A stovetop mocha pot makes good Espresso, at a great price. I have a bialetti 3 cup pot that goes for about $20. You can, of course, get the larger models that make up to 12 cups. They will run you about $50....
Q: Can anyone offer some info on buying a pump driven
Espresso/steamer for home use.
I have purchased two from a mail order place that I
returned and would appreciate any info from either
satisfied or unhappy users.
Thanks.A: I can personally, and highly recommend Briel Espresso/cappuccino makers.
I currently own a Briel Lido and get superb results! Their entire
product line features the same pumps, thermostats, filter holder, and
'Crema Master' filter. In Canada we get a 10 year warranty on the pump
and the company arranges all courier shipments, etc. for you!
We've put together a section featuring their entire product line...
Q: I'm in the market for an espresso machine, and I've looked around the
coffee shops here
(Manchester, UK). The choice seems to be either the Gaggia range (from
the Costa shops)
and the Pavoni (professional, I think) from Whittard. The problem is
that nobody really
seems to know what they're talking about in these shops. The only
machine that anyone
could demonstrate was a Gaggia Classic Coffee (which produced a great
coffee), but I'd
obviously like to make a more informed choice. Does anyone know of a
shop that sell these
(or similar) machines, know a bit about them, and can demonstrate them,
preferably in
the Manchester area (although I do go to...
Q: What is the difference between Espresso from a coffee shop and coffee that I brew at home in the pot. Also, what is the difference with a 'French Press'? I have tried it and it's good but what exactly is it?A: Coffee is brewed at a lower temperature a little longer, uses more water and requires beans to be more coarsely ground.
Espresso, on the other hand, is brewed by forcing a small amount of steaming hot water through tightly packed, finely ground coffee beans. This results in a blacker, stronger, more concentrated coffee and is the basis of many...
Q: I am wanting to make an Espresso, yet I only have instant coffee at home.
Is it a case of simply using the instant coffee with a little water in a small, shot-sized mug?A: Just about. Use about double the amount called for, for a 6 oz cup. Make sure you add boiling water, just be careful, as it can sputter when you pour it. No, that's not the case, you need Espresso coffee and a special Espresso coffee maker - otherwise all you'll make is very strong, undrinkable instant coffee - not Espresso. Also, it is better to use...
Q: The answer would here would probably be:
1) Make sure you have a good grinder...absolutely critical for good
Espresso.
2) Make sure you're using fresh beans...(home roasted or other)
Cheers,A: I think you already know the answer to your own question. If you want to
have Espresso like you had in Italia, you can't do it with a $40 machine
that's cinesi (Chinese). You're asking the impossible. You'd be insulted too
if we asked you to conduct an orchestra where the players had only kazoos.
So when we tell you no go, it's not because we're flamers, but because we
know better. If you want to attend the...
Q: Espresso without Espresso/coffee machine? How?
That's right, I don't have an Espresso machine, and will not buy one, yet I really want to pull a good Espresso. How can I without a machine?A: You could follow the instructions at the site below, minus adding milk. All you need is a small saucepan, water, ESPRESSO coffee and an item called a colador that is pictured on the webpage below. Hope this helps: Cant do it without the proper technology. You need pressure and steam.
Go to a coffee shop if you want an Espresso.

Q: Unfortunately, I've recently had to sell my Expobar Lever and Mazzer
Mini, due to $$$ circumstances. We bought a cheap Cuisinart burr
grinder to replace the Mazzer. Man- that's like trying to replace a
Jaguar w/ a pair of roller skates! I know that it will never be
sufficient for Espresso, but for now, it'll have to do. In the meantime,
I'm looking for a suitable replacement for the Expobar, or at
least, and more to the point, something that will make something that
in some ways resembles Espresso. The main use of whatever machine I
decide upon, will be to make my wife her lattes. The...
Q: I am the only person in my house who drinks coffee, Espresso or
Cappuccino. I just got started with home roasting, and what I would like
to do is find a good coffee maker that can make single cups of coffee.
Even better, is if the coffee maker had some kind of travel mug and
timer. This way I could set it up at night and have the mug ready to go
when I walk out the door.
I was in Starbucks this morning on my way to a seminar, and I noticed a
Barista Solo (I think this was the name of it)....
Q: I just got an Espresso machine, and I was wondering what a good coffee to use for it would be. Thanks!A: Find a local roaster that will provide you with fresh roasted coffee, and good advice on blends to use. Some of the packaged stuff may be O.K., but I wouldn't trust it because they usually can't confirm a roast date, and the stamped date or the mythical "Expiration Date" is a joke. I have found some that are 8 months away from the date I intended to purchase. NO coffee is good that long....
Back to the suggestion. A...

That's my coffee maker. I followed directions as per the box, put water in the bottom and ground coffee in the basket, but nothing is coming out the top!!! I've done this a few times, all to no avail! HELP!!A: It's the old fashioned Espresso. It consists of three parts - bottom for water, filter for coffee, upper part for collecting the coffee.
There is a line inside the bottom part indicating how much water is allowed.
Filter part is not supposed to be pressfilled with grind coffee - loosely fill it up to the...
Q: I purchased this machine on E-Bay. Unfortunately it came without the video
or a manual.
Can anyone guide me through how to use it or point me to a site where I can
obtain instructions on its use?A: Which one? They have sold several rebranded models through the years. If
you had included the link to the e-bay picture, someone might be able to
tell you, but you should be able to operate it from any instruction manual.
The symbols for the various operations are pretty universal. It appears to be a Saeco Magic. The manual is probably available on the
Saeco site...

options. I've been told to only get it with a burr grinder. I'm confused.

Monterrey Espresso and Cappuccino Maker
$19.99
I was wondering if it was any good.A: To use the vernacular in this group, "It's a steam-toy".
It probably doesn't produce enough pressure to actually
produce good Espresso.
Braun and other makers have similar models out there
at about the same price. Not that they are any better. I don't think
you can usually buy a steam toy at that price, not that you
would want it anyway, generally speaking. However, $20 is moka pot
territory, so if you view it as a moka pot substitute (with a steamwand to
boot) then you could consider it a good deal...
Q: My wife and I are looking to purchase a home Espresso maker of very good
quality. Any comments are welcome.A: I used to sell Espresso makers, and I have owned one for over four
years now. I have a 'FAEMA Family" and I use it every day. It makes
fabulous coffee.
When you go to purchase your machine, make sure the sales person
makes a demonstration of the machine for you so that you can see
exactly how it works. That way, you will always follow directions
and make great coffee. As any professional in the field will tell you,
coffee is very fickle, if you make...

The first time to use it, the coffee will be bad, it'll become better with time. I have Very expensive coffee maker myself ,...

put in the desired amount of ice
add milk, Espresso, sugar (optional), flavorings (flavored syrup works good, you can get this from starbucks or online), and then mix.
If you really want to get fancy, you can garnish with caramel, chocolate syrup, and/or whipped cream. I suggest you search at:

I'm thinking about buying a Coffee Machine, but i also saw a Espresso machine, and I don't know the difference, nor their prices, and I also have doubts about what type of coffee to buy to get the best cup of coffee that I can make (strongest in taste and wake me up power). In case you not aware, Arne Duncan was in charge of education in Chicago, and this mess went on.
Wasting away 67K for Cappuccino and there is more if you read the story.
Now remember, Obama has picked this guy to be in charge of education for the United States.
So, should we question Obama's judgement again, or is this another case it isn't an Obama problem because when Arne Duncan was in charge of Chicago schools has nothing to do with Obama?
What do you think?A: I simply don't understand the pick of Duncan by Obama. He should know the the condition...
Q: Any recipes...all the ones I've found are with ice, not the refrigerated drink. I imagine we can do it the same without the ice!?!? Anyone tried it, is it close?
I don't know much about coffee, Cappuccino, Frappuccino, Espresso, Lattes...but do the have a machine like a Cappuccino machine that makes the cold drinks? Or can you make it in a Cappuccino machine and then refrigerate it to get a Frappuccino?
Thanks...Christmas ideas for my mother!!! She loves these expensive little things!A: Pretty much all Starbucks drinks start life as an Espresso, so it might be worth getting her an Espresso...
Q: I often go out for coffee, and am wondering how drinking Espresso compares with regular coffee. Personally, I prefer Espresso, and rarely drink regular coffee.A: A one ounce shot of Espresso contains approximately the same amount of caffiene as a 8-10 ounce cup of drip coffee. The nutritional make-up of the two drinks is virtually the same. (This is of course assuming that you do not add cream, sugar, flavored syrups, whipped cream, "frappuccino mix" or any other such nonsense either).
I've heard a serving of Espresso actually has a lower caffeine content than a cup of regular coffee....
Q: My mom just gave me an old Salton "Three For All" Espresso machine, and I don't know how to use the steamer! I don't even know how that side of the machine works at all (... and I used to be a barista at Starbucks). Can somebody help?A: Use the knob above the steamer wand (spout):
1) Begin with very cold milk. It is important to keep the milk temperature right above freezing. Keep the steam pitchers in the refrigerator also. This will allow you to steam the milk for a longer period of time to achieve that smooth and...
Q: I tried soaking it in boiling water, and also a coffee pot cleaner which is supposed to remove hard water and mineral deposits. The strainer has a double layer which I can't separate, and the grounds are caught between the two layers.A: Coffee pot cleaner and/or vinegar will work on the minerals from the water but they will not affect coffee grounds at all.
Use a blunt smooth object (maybe a spoon), place the filter on a smooth flat surface, and try to smash the grounds more, then flush them out with water. Be careful not not tear or damage...
Q: I tried soaking it in boiling water, and also a coffee pot cleaner which is supposed to remove hard water and mineral deposits. The strainer has a double layer, which I can't separate, and the grounds are caught between the two layers.A: Just switch on the stove, keep the strainer on it on a distance of 6-7 inches, and just move the strainer over the heat or flame for 4-5 minutes, then wash it with mild dish washing soap.
Your strainer will look brand new. I don't know why, but this solved my problem! I used this method as a...
Q: I have a stove top Espresso coffee maker and I make an excellent short black with the finest free trade organic coffee. I want to use this coffee for an excellent iced coffee. Any suggestions? Appreciated.A: I think I make really good iced coffee. First, you have to brew the coffee so it's double the normal strength (twice the amount of coffee beans for the same amount of water), that way when you add ice to the coffee, it wont be watered down. I add half and half or cream then. And I'll usually add sugar and chocolate syrup...
Q: I have been making Espresso, but sometimes it comes out so strong. It tastes too bitter to me. I like my coffee strong, but not that bitter. Any suggestions on how to dilute the bitterness? I make 10 cups. How many coffee scoops might I try? I've been doing 2 1/2.A: The first response you received is mostly right. Many of the dark Espresso roasts you taste in coffee shops, were roasted to work with commercial grade machines. Thus, your dark roast coffee is not suitable for Espresso in your home machine. You may want to try a medium...
Q: I just got my own Cappuccino machine. The coffee tastes great, but I can't seem to make the milk very thick like I see it in the stores. The "crema" of the Espresso isn't very good either, but that doesn't matter to me as much as the milk. I am using whole milk. It could be the whining 1 year old keeping me from frothing it long enough. Any ideas?A: As unlikely as it might seem, you get the stiffest froth from skim milk because the homogenized cream in the milk does not hold air. Whole milk has a...
Q: I used to LOVE McDonald's Cappuccinos. Then, they switched to the "premium blends" version. This new Cappuccino tastes extremely bitter, and disgusting. It is also 4 times the price. I think they started brewing it using milk and Espresso instead of the machine like they used to.
Since that time, I have tried ordering Cappuccinos in numerous other locations only to be presented with Espresso poured into foamed milk. I understand that this is what a Cappuccino actually is, but that doesn't mean the old favorite drink of mine should be impossible to get. I've been having to just drink...
Q: We have a 'Krups' Espresso machine, and we have read the manual and cleaned it out with vinegar like it said, but the flavor is still not the same as it was when it was brand new. We use it everyday, so I was wondering if there is something we could do to get the old coffee smell/flavor out of the machine?A: I am only familiar with big hotel machine and my own cheap Mr. coffee pot. I run Espresso grind through it.
Make sure the area above the grounds is clean. May need a brush. If a full run...
Q: How do you make a Cappuccino from scratch?
Is there a way to make a Cappuccino without having the special machine?A: No, because a Cappucino is Espresso, steamed milk, and foam, so you need the machine to make the foam.
Yes, there definitely is. Personally, I do not think that this method as good as ones made with an Espresso machine, but it is still possible.
Buy a stovetop Espresso maker, they are available just about anywhere in many different cup yields. So, just follow the instructions, and make enough Espresso to fill 1/3 of the cup that you intend to...
Q: How do you make a good Cappuccino?
What is a good Cappuccino machine to buy, and what would it cost?A: You can get a decent home Espresso / Cappuccino machine for $200 and up. The best starter machine would be any 'Gaggia', available online, and at Ebay. Even their cheaper machines use the same internal parts as the more expensive ones, so you will get a good shot from it with proper technique and good, FRESH coffee beans. With stale coffee from the store, you're wasting your time - it's awful!
If you don't roast your own beans, find a place...
Q: I have a very good coffee and Espresso machine. Since the most complicated thing I know how to make with it is a Cappuccino (which tastes very good), I was wondering if anyone knew how to make more complicated drinks that you might find at coffee houses. I assume they really aren't that hard to make, its just that I can't seem to get the proportions right...
Can you tell me how to make say, a mocha, iced coffee drinks, and any other recipe you might know?A: Froth your milk (i'm assuming as you say you're good at the esp....
Q: I use a 'Melita' filter with a craffe. I like that the coffee stays fresh, but it doesn't stay hot! I want a 'French Press' but I do not like the grounds at the bottom. I don't like a drip coffee maker casue of the hot plate that burns the coffee. What is the best machine, and or, way to prepare coffee? Your thoughts?A: Bialetti Italian-style coffee maker for Espresso. Fill water receptacle with bottled water to the line (I live in Naples, Italy and it is not advisable for Americans to drink the tap.) Use Kimbo coffee, pack...
Q: How (if you can) can you make an Espresso out of instant coffee mix?A: You can't unless the mix is instant Espresso.
Coffee and Espresso are different.
Coffee is what most people drink.
Espresso is a stronger caffeinated drink that should be drank in small amounts.
The short answer is "no". Espresso requires whole coffee beans that have been selected & roasted for Espresso to be freshly ground at precisely the right level of granularity. It then needs to be carefully prepared in an Espresso machine. We could go on, but i think we have already answered your question. If you want...
Q: How is a Latte made differently from a Cappuccino?
I've used a Cappuccino machine before, so i know a Cappuccino is an Espresso with foamed milk and cinnamon, but how is a Latte different?A: A Cappuccino is made with Espresso, half the cup is filled with steamed milk, and then the other half of the cup is filled with foam. This makes the drink about half foam, and because there is less milk to dilute the coffee, it tastes stronger.
A Latte is Espresso, and then the cup is filled almost to the top with milk. Just a spoonful of foam...
Q: I've made Espresso in my coffee machine, and it tastes pretty good, is there a big difference?A: Espresso machine uses pressure to brew, making Espresso more concentrated than coffee. As a result, Espresso tends to be much stronger than regular coffee.
Also note that any type of coffee can be used to make Espresso, it's the machine that makes the difference.
Remember: Coffee is to Espresso as cocaine is to crack. It's a little undignified, but it certainly helps me remember. Well, first of all Espresso is roasted different than regular Coffee. Also, it's a different Grind (almost like Powder).
Now, I...
Q: How is an Espresso machine different from a normal coffee machine?
I've made Espresso in my coffee machine, and it tastes pretty good, is there a big difference?A: An Espresso machine uses pressure to brew, making Espresso more concentrated than coffee. As a result, Espresso tends to be much stronger than regular coffee.
Also note that any type of coffee can be used to make Espresso, it's the machine that makes the difference.

Q: I have a nice 'Krupps' Cappuccino maker, and have had a cheaper brand, too... but I just can't make drinks that compare to the pros. I know they have expensive machines, but how many ways can water flow over grounds?!?!?A: There are tricks to making a good Cappuccino. First, you need a good Esspresso bean. You can get Esspresso beans at 'Starbucks', or at most independent coffee shops. I don't recommend getting them at the grocery store. They are usually not as fresh, and they are not as good quality. I actually order green coffee beans on the Internet...
Q: How long do I percolate coffee for in a stove-top percolator?A: How to Use a Percolator for Making Coffee:
Fill pot with water for the number of cups of coffee you want. Try not to over fill it, as it will either boil over or seep out from the lid on an electrical percolator.
Place coffee grounds in the basket: 1 tbs per cup of water is recommended.
Fit basket into the urn and place on stovetop or plug into outlet.
(for stove percolator) Heat the water to boiling. With an electrical percolator, nothing more will need to be done as it has...
Q: How long will caffeine from a double Espresso topped with 12 oz of regular coffee take to wear off?
I had to study for a test but it is now midnight and I want to go to sleep but I can't because I drank this coffee.A: Actually, it very much depends on the time of drinking it. The double Espresso and regular simply means very high concentration of caffeine.
It takes 3-4 hours from the time of drinking coffee for it to take effect, and based on your dosage, the caffeine should be able to keep you awake for 3 solid...
Q: You get very little coffee for a big price. Does it really have 3 times caffeine in it? Can it really wake you up? Do you drink it little by little, or drink it down like a shot?A: One time, a customer got 8 shots in his 'Venti (20 oz) White Mocha'. It's supposed to come with two shots. I told him that we're not responsible for any heart damage from the caffeine. Sometimes, if I'm really tired and I need to wake up, I'll get a 'Triple Grande Peppermint White Mocha'. That's just one added shot, and I...
Q: Does a shot of Espresso have more, or less, caffeine than a cup of brewed coffee? How much?
Links would be great! I need to calculate safe levels of caffeine.
Thanks!A: I know that one shot of Expresso have much more caffeine than a cup of coffee, which is why they serve them in those tiny cups. I hope this link helps.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso Here's a good caffeine chart. I found it doing Yahoo search. There are lots of them. http://www.cspinet.org/reports/caffeine....I know that one shot of Espresso has less caffeine than one cup of coffee (8 0z.), but I'm not sure exactly how...
Q: A guy at work swears that there is actually more caffeine in a cup of coffee than a shot of Espresso.A: He's right - IF you are talking about normal servings sizes. In other words, a cup of drip coffee is typically 8 oz and contains approx. 145 mg of caffeine, whereas a shot of Espresso is typically 1.5 oz, and contains approx. 77 mg of caffeine. If you have equal measures of drip coffee and Espresso (i.e. 1 oz. of each), Espresso shoots to the front with 51.33mg of caffeine per ounce as opposed to drip which is...
Q: I bought some coffee that was pre-ground to a fine texture for Espresso machines. How much should I use for my drip machine? Half of what I would use with a coarse grind?A: I would say temper it to your taste, but definitely use less, because the coffee is ground finer there is more surface area exposed to the water, so more flavor is extracted from the coffee. Depending on the coffee, and your personal taste, this can be a good or bad thing. It most likely will make your coffee taste bitter, since the grinds are in contact...
Q: I am not a coffee drinker; I need to know for my screenplay. Also, how many cups to become very jittery?A: Espresso is served by the shot. A double shot will probably run you about $2 give or take at a coffee shop or a 'Starbucks'. It really depends on the person as far as the amount it takes to get jittery. Some people can't really handle caffeine at all, others can drink it like water and be fine. I would say after maybe 5 or 6 shots the average person might be pretty jittery.
I have an Espresso machine...
Q: How much water and coffee is used in a stovetop Espresso-maker?
Its a 6-cup stove top Espresso maker, but I need to know how much water per how much coffee for each "shot" of Espresso.A: First off, realize that a 6-cup Espresso maker means that it makes 6 tiny cups of Espresso (not 6 full 8 oz cups).
If you just want to make regular coffee, fill it up with water, and use 2 to 4 tablespoons of ground coffee.
If you want Espresso, use 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of coffee per 2 tablespoons of water. Fill the bottom chamber with cold...
Q: I was just wondering....where could I purchase just an individual coffee holder for an Espresso machine, with a coffee holder (I mean the glass container where the coffee goes into as soon as its made)?A: I actually just sold a replacement glass CARAFE on eBay a couple of days ago, and have a few other parts listed too (for a Melitta), so check online auctions like eBay. I have had some luck getting parts for appliances by contacting the manufacturer's web site. I am sure your brand is made by a company that has one. Then you can see...
Q: This is the kind I am talking about: http://www.gwdoling.co.uk/img/ih/kcraft/...
The bottom section, where you put water, is all crusty with white mineral deposits, even though I use filtered water, not tap water. How can I scrape or dissolve those off? I can't really reach in there with steel wool, and dish brushes don't provide enough friction to be effective.
Does anyone have experience with this? Please don't advise anything that you (or someone you know) haven't tried and found effective.A: My son had a thermos that was stained brown from tea. I put some hot water in it, and a couple...
Q: How to clean mold from bottom of a Cappuccino machine?
I've returned to my Cappuccino machine a few months later and found mold in the water reservoir and have gotten most of mold out, but the very bottom. I've let it sit with soapy water, and shook it and there's still a little mold left. Can anyone help me?A: Well, you should try bleach hot water. Bleach kills mold most of the time. Try that, and let it run through, and see what happens. If that doesn't work, see if you can get some pipe cleaners in the "arts and...
Q: How to foam milk with Cappuccino machine.A: Whether it's a commercial machine with a steamer, or a domestic machine with a 'frother' - have the stick at the bottom of your jug, and turn on - work gradually up through the milk to create a froth. Once the froth is formed, tap the jug sharply on your counter a few times, then repeat the process - this creates a denser froth.
A Cappaccino machine has a wand and a dial. When you turn the dial, it releases steam from the wand. For best results, use about 4 oz of skim...
Q: Actually, I want to make it chilled!A: The bad news is: You can't make real Espresso without an Espresso machine. You need pressure to make that.
The good news is: To make iced cappuccino, you don't have to start with real Espresso. You can use instant Espresso powder (Medaglia D'oro is a good one, but you can use good ol' instant coffee too).
Mix instant Espresso powder with milk, sugar, and flavored syrups (you don't need much to make it really good). Serve over ice. YUM! The old fashioned way the Italians sometimes still do it is just to boil the...
Q: Anyone got any good tips for frothing milk with one of those steamer nozzles on a coffee machine? I`ve just started a new job in a coffee shop and can`t make a good Cappuccino.A: First of all, make sure you use cold milk (if you're refrothing warm milk, add an ice cube or two). Secondly, semi-skimmed is the best milk to use. Dip the nozzle in the milk (jug no more than 1/2 full) so that it is at an angle and only just under the surface of the milk. Turn on the steam and gently let the milk...

Q: I want to make perfect Espresso coffee at home, but there are 100 types of coffee machines from $99.00 to $2000.00 for sale. I don't know which one is just right. According to my friends, I should stick to coffee shops for my coffee thirst, because no matter what you try, it is impossible to get 100% result. Is it true? Also is it important to use bean or instant coffee powder? I don't like very strong flavour, just medium, sweet, white. 'Gloria Jeans' is not my test, it's too thick and strong.
Please give me simple, clear suggestions to...
Q: Ok, Until i get an Espresso maker, I would like to know how to make a Latte or Cappuccino using ready coffee and a milk frother?
Any info would be most helpful.A: I use my coffee mocha to boil the coffee. Then, I put it in a pot, add milk, then boil. This will give you a slight froth on the top. It is Italian Latte....not all Italians have machines at home! Latte is Italian, not American!!! I brew Espresso coffee in a stove-top Espresso pot (also called a moka pot). I'm not sure if you will get the same effect...
Q: I have an Espresso machine, it used to be my mom's and she gave it to me just recently. It's several years old and hasn't been used in a while, which I don't think really matters as long as it's clean. I ran some water through it to clean it out... but now I don't honestly know HOW to use it. lol.
I would put my coffee in it, but I'm worried if I do it wrong, I'll just waste coffee. PLUS, I see people making a big deal out of the pods, which is actually what I THINK I...
Q: No manual...it's used...but I got it for free, so I'm not complaining. It
makes espresso real fast and has this valve and spout for the
milk-heating thing, but it puts ALL the water (you put into the boiler) into the carafe (via
the coffee holder thing). So how do you get steam for heating the milk?A: I'm new myself but I've been using a Salton that sounds similar. I
got mine for $10 with no instructions, as well. So - 1) put 2 scoops into
the portofilter and lock it on; 2) fill the carafe with water to a little

Q: If you use regular freshly ground coffee in an Espresso machine, why is it different than regular coffee?
I mean, can you taste the difference? If so, can you describe it, please? Thank you.A: Espresso coffee is an extremely fine grind. If you want to grind your own Espresso, you must grind it VERY VERY fine. This makes the coffee stronger. Regular grind coffee would not compact tightly and the water would flow through too quickly.
Hope this helps you. As for the taste - Espresso is a very strong, full bodied taste compared to regular coffee, which will taste almost...
Q: I don't have a Cappuccino machine.A: Most Cappuccino mixes are instant and just need hot water added to them. Check the bag, and look for directions. The secret of a Cappuccino is the milk. Try coffee cream or just hot milk like ( foamed milk). So I think try to steam the milk to the point of making it foam. Then, add some cinnamon. If it is an instant mix, all you have to do is either run a pot of plain water through your coffee machine, or boil it in a tea kettle on the stove or microwave...
Q: I have an Espresso/Cappuccino coffee maker, and I was wondering, is there a way to make black coffee using a Cappuccino Maker? Not strong Espresso shots, but just coffee like the one you get from filter coffee makers? Any other ideas? It just takes too long to froth the milk, and tap the coffee in the coffee holder...A: Well, you can make what's called an 'Americana' - basically coffee, but might have a stronger taste to it. I dunno.
What you do is make your Espresso, pour it in a cup, and add water to it - youll have to...

Q: I have an Espresso machine and don't have the instructions.
I never used my Espresso machine and lost the instructions. It's a 'Delonghi Cafe Rialto', but i can't find anywhere online for instructions. Does anyone know where I can get them online?A: Use a blender to blend your machine. That's a good coffee, right? No just kidding... ha ha. You can contact the manufacturer and tell them that they need to send you some. You could ask on here for somebody that has one to mail you their instructions through e-mail. Try going to the makers website, and see if...
Q: It's a Breville Espresso/ Cappuccino maker. I'm pretty sure it would taste better with Espresso ground, but I'm thinking cheaper here. Can anyone help?A: If you buy ground coffee at the store, it is typically ground for a paper cone filter. That will not be a fine enough grind for your machine. How is the regular ground coffee cheaper? Just curious here. I work in a coffee shop, so I haven't actually purchased coffee in years. If all else fails, get the regular ground and tamp it harder. FYI, a blade grinder will not yield a fine enough grind...

I got a maker that can be used with pods or from scratch. Can anyone give me a crash course in using this machine? Any recommendations for pod brands? Q: My husband and I just received the Westbend 3 in 1 coffee/Espresso/Cappuccino machine for our wedding, and we both love Cappuccino, but there are so many different things out there for different machines, we aren't sure which to get - to use with our machine. We read the instructions, and that doesn't say anything. We've checked out the pods, and regular Espresso beans ground up, but it doesn't seem to work. Please help! We don't want to keep buying different things if they don't work!A: The Espresso machine that grinds coffee beans is called: "Super Automatic Espresso Machine". One...
Q: I'm trying to come up with a name for a local coffee/Espresso shop. Any suggestions? The business will be small and quick. It may have a drive-thru.A: The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.
The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.
Since...
Q: I have recently bought a machine for home, and I have followed the instructions, but I need someone else's advice. I need some pointers and a good ratio of coffee and milk, and anything else that I could use that you might know of. Thanks!A: Practice by just working with the milk first, so that you don't have to worry about timing your shot(s).
I usually use about a third of the drink's final volume in milk to begin with. Make sure you steam your milk gently. Do your initial aeration but then, after that, you should have the milk...
Q: My boyfriend got me the 'Krups XP4030' Espresso machine. I've been trying to watch on youtube about how to make a simple Mocha or Cappuccino using the frothy milk & Espresso & froth, but I'm totally lost. I read the directions on how to make coffee in the pamphlet it came with but it doesn't really tell me how to make the good stuff like they do at 'Seattle's Best' or 'Starbucks'.
On the videos I watched (I also tried looking up my model, but I couldn't really see what they were doing, or if it was my model), I...
Q: I run a catering business that trades in Espresso coffee only. Do I need a health and hygiene certificate?A: I should have thought that if you really ARE running a catering business of any sort, you would know all the relevant rules, regulations and requirements needed to run such a thing already.
Or to put it another way,
Yes, you doYes. Anything to do with food or drink, the production or sale of it needs a certificate. Contact your local Environmental Health Dept, if they find you are trading without being inspected they will not be happy. Most certainly. I'm surprised...
Q: I bought the 'DeLonghi BCO 120T' with coffee maker and Espresso Machine and I was wondering if this is a good buy. I was wondering how this one compares with the more expensive models. I know DeLonghi is Italian, and they make good machines. I got it for $80 dollars. Any Experiences with Espresso machines?A: The DeLonghi's are a good machine but Espresso is like olive oil and wine - the more you pay, the better quality you get, so being familiar with these things at $80, you may not have the best machine. Check to see how many...
Q: I write to you today to ask a seemingly silly, yet surprisingly serious question. It's in order to settle a debate [read: argument] amongst some friends and myself on whether or not Espresso is coffee.
Several fine points have been raised on either side of the issue, but we must defer to the mightiest purveyor of coffee and coffee related products that we can think of.
The issue at hand is the fact that when I order a 'Venti Peppermint Mocha', I call it a coffee. My esteemed colleague (and former dedicated 'Starbucks' employee) corrects me on this issue by saying...
Q: Or are there other more exotic types of coffee that have a stronger "hit" with the caffeine?A: Several good answers in here so far. It looks like answering your question needs several parts.
The Beans:
The two major varieties of coffee grown in the world today are 'Arabica' and 'Robusta'. 'Robusta' has twice the caffeine content, but is generally considered to be a lower quality coffee, and as such is difficult to find in a reputable coffee shop. However, you will occasionally see Espresso blends with a small amount of 'Robusta', included for its massive influence on the "crema" of the...
Q: I bought an inexpensive Espresso/Cappucino maker and every time I make coffee, it smells and tastes burnt. I went exactly by the directions, and used two different kinds of roast (Espresso and a Medium Roast). Is it the coffee beans, the machine, or am I doing something wrong? Every Cappucino I have ever had never tastes burnt and I really cannot drink what this Espresso/Cappucino maker has been making.A: Bad Espresso has an ingrained bitterness that no amount of sugar can hide. Ironically, it is often the result of forcing too much water through the approximately six to eight...
Q: Although still very new, I was wondering why so many call their Espresso,
"coffee".
In addition, how does one make "coffee" (usually made with a drip coffee maker)
with an Espresso maker?A: I believe many use the generic word "coffee" to cover Espresso, cappuccino, drip,
French pot, mokka pot, etc. I myself say "wait 'till I've had my coffee", and most
who know me know that means cappuccino. All Espresso is coffee; not all coffee is Espresso.
Espresso is one method (of many) by which one may brew coffee. You cannot
make "drip" coffee with an Espresso machine. Drip brewing
is a different...
Q: If I fill the water compartment of my Espresso machine with milk instead of water, will it clog/ruin the machine?
I'm not talking about the frother, which is used to frothe milk. I'm talking about the water compartment that you put water in, which makes steam, which makes Espresso. Anyone who's ever owned an Espresso machine will know what I'm talking about. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!A: Yikes! NO!!! Do not do that! The casein in the milk will definitely clog your expensive machine and you will have an awful and awfully expensive time repairing your machine. Can't...
Q: Is it true that Espresso does not have as much caffeine as regular coffee?A: I've heard that myth as well, and as near as I can figure it comes from the notion that Espresso usually comes in tiny little cups, while regular coffee comes in huge tanker trucks with handles attached. Espresso is brewed by forcing steam through the beans, which gets out basically every last Iota of coffee goo from the beans. If you had equal volumes of steam-brewed Espresso and drip-brewed coffee, the Espresso would have a lot more caffeine. Espresso has more caffeine, that's why they...
Q: I live in Italy, and I want to send my aunt, who is in America, an Italian Espresso coffee pot, but I was wondering if she would have to buy a special type of coffee, or if she could just use the regular type.A: Most every grocery store no matter where you are in North America stock one kind of Espesso, or like here in Canada, we have stores that sell bulk coffee and the have Espresso beans that you can buy and grind fresh at home.
I live in Toronto, and we have the second largest Italian population in...

Q: I am not asking about preparation or grinding of the beans... just the beans themsleves. Is there a difference? For example, can I make Espresso from coffee beans if i use an Espresso machine and they are ground to the correct consistency?A: Espresso is a specific type of coffee bean that is very strong. You might get OKAY results if you do a really fine ground on a robust type of coffee bean, but I don't think it would be quite the same because it won't have exactly the same amount of oil, acidity, etc. as actual Espresso beans....
Q: Is there a way to brew Espresso coffee without a special machine? Is there such a thing as instant Espresso?A: I have used instant (powdered) Espresso coffee. It wasn't very good, and I don't recommend it over brewed coffee. However, there are some on the market if you can find them. One is 'Medaglia D'Oro'. Another brand: 'Cafe Bustelo'. While I don't care for using them to make coffee that I drink, they are handy if you want to add coffee granules to a recipe or make a quick Capuccino-flavored drink.
The stovetop Espresso makers work just fine. I have...
Q: Italian Coffee Maker - regular coffee vs. espresso - Cholesterol?A: First time I've heard of that one...
A filter can reduce cholesterol from coffee?
Is there much cholesterol in coffee to begin with? If so, how can a paper or mesh filter, make it healthier. I think that's a big myth.
I happen to brew 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee in a vaccum brewing coffee machine. It uses a mesh filter and makes EXCELLENT cups of coffee.
I buy the coffee at www.FASTCAFE.com...
Q: My wife and I both enjoy coffee and Latte's in the morning. We are looking for a kitchen counter top combo package (coffee and Espresso maker). We would like to spend around $350.00 USD.A: Find a specialty place that deals with the Italian market, take a look in you local Yellow Pages, and if you into spending that kind, make sure it has all the bells and whisltes.
The more professional types are more expensive, but have the reliablity and ability to take constant use.
One other thing to remember is use an excellent quality Espresso coffee, the better the coffee,...

I have a very low budget because this gift is for my dad, and I really want to get him this gift he really wants. It needs to make more than 6 cups of Cappuccino.A: Too late!! I could have gotten you a nice one from Brandsmart, a discount appliance store in the South for $49 on Black Friday. There are still some nice models available, but they don't have online sales, yet. Kyle, an appliance store, Warners' Stellian Appliances (very reputable and...
Q: Just to dispel a myth: Is Espresso a type of coffee or bean?A: Espresso means coffee that has been “pressed out.”
It alludes to the process of forcing steam through finely ground, dark roasted coffee beans; it is a method of brewing coffee with steam by the cup in a matter of seconds.
During the Industrial Revolution, Europe and America concentrated in producing large quantities of coffee to store it indefinitely with huge urns or samovars.
Italians chose to leverage on technological advances to adopt a method of brewing coffee with techniques from the Age of Steam. Patented by Desiderio Pavoni around...
Q: About two years ago when my husband and I got married, we bought a Krups
automatic brew machine and espresso/cappuccino all in one machine. This is
the first and only machine we've had. Since then I have seen other machines
that make only espresso/cappuccino and I am wondering if these are better?
Does anyone know anything about the Krups I'm speaking of? Certainly it was
not the most expensive machine you can get, but I liked the idea of a
regular coffee maker and espresso/capp. in one unit together.

Q: Is there anyone who has any experience with this machine???
Thinking of buying one...A: The Krups Espresso Novo 2 is essentially the same machine as my Krups
Espresso Pronto. There is also someone else on the group that has the KEN
2000, that I know of. What do you want to know about it? A few years ago I
decided to buy my first proper home espresso/cappuccino
machine (i've since had a few others since then...they just keep getting

Q: Ever since I've been reading these NGs, I've wanted to get a pump
Espresso maker and replace my steam, Mr. Coffee. In fact, some of you
may remember my last posting about 3 weeks ago. I was wondering if
THIS machine is worth the effort:
"You can have creamy, cafe-style Espresso or cappuccino for just
pennies a cup in the comfort of your own kitchen when you take
advantage of this great deal....The pump pressure delivers perfect
'crema' Espresso every time and the carafe used with the 'perfect

Q: Can anyone give me any information on the quality of the Krups "Novo"
#989 Pump System Espresso/Cappuccino Machine? I currently own a steam
powered Krups Espresso maker which I like, but I want to switch to a
Pump machine for better quality Espresso. I have a chance to get a
refurbished model of this machine for under $100. The MSRP is $189. Is
this a good deal? I am looking for the best machine I can find for
under $200. The most important thing is the flavor of the Espresso,
with good beans of course.
Also, if I don't get this...
Q: Two major drawbacks (from user reviews on the above page):
-"The portafilter is what Ariete calls their "Thermocream" design."
So it has a crema enhancing portafilter. Whether or not this can be
removed or modified is unknown.
-"I would like to add that the Group Head (the thing the portafilter
attaches to when you put it on) is not solid metal. Parts of it are
plastic."
This would indicate a possible design flaw that could limit its
useful life.
Thermoblocks are not the best, but they can work, and as you say, for a
starter machine it might be OK. The little Krups I picked...
Q: If I were you, I'd try it out in its new location and see how it works for
you. My machine (a Cimbali Jr.) is operating at a hair under 6000 feet. It
was recently serviced in a town at about 2500 or 3000 feet, and I haven't
done anything to it since the servicing. The service guy brought it back
and let it warm up, took the side panel off and showed me how to adjust the
pressurestat, but given the readings we were getting (about 1.1 to 1.2 barr)
advised leaving well enough alone.A: Also, I'm not sure how reliable...
Q: I am opening a coffee bar & deli. I am interested in purchasing a good used
machine that is reasonably priced. It does not need to be a large top of
the line one as I am looking to keep my start up costs low.A: I have a Saeco Professional totally automatic Espresso machine. That had out
on location at a country club for 6 weeks. The unit was brand new, This unit
runs on 240 volts and has 2 boilers, one for making Espresso, and one for
making cappuccino. This Espresso maker practically runs itself. All you need
to do is load the...
Q: I'm a Disabled Veteran and I live alone, and today I was at a Restaurant and had a cup of decaf coffee, and it was very tasty. Surely, they may use a tasty type of coffee, but, I'm thinking they just use the right amount.
When I make a Pot of Coffee, I only use 5 "heaping" Tablespoons of Coffee for a 12 cup pot. My Coffee just isn't that tasty. It's rather bland and seems weak.
I use either 'Hills Bros.', or 'Folgers' "Regular or French Roast"'. How much should I use to make a tasty pot, so each cup...
Q: I just ordered a Cappuccino machine, and I am curious how to make my favorite drink.
I order a 'Vanilla Cappuccino' at 'Starbucks'. What type coffee do I need to buy? Do I also need to buy syrup or will vanilla coffee work?A: Get 'Starbucks Espresso Blend', have them grind it for an Espresso machine. Buy vanilla syrup (not the coffee). I would even ask a barista for some frothing tips to get the perfect Cappuccino foam. It is an art, and hard to do on the at home machines but fun! Also, get a big pitcher for foaming milk...

Q: We've got one of the makers that goes on the stove, but what heat is it best to use? The instructions don't say. Is it best on a low heat, or is hot better?A: Its best to put it on the low setting and wait a while for it to drip through.
Go on then, it is your turn and nobody makes it like you do.
I have a camp fire version which you have to fill the bottom with water, put the filled filter in then and screw the top on over that.

almost everything", decided on a Mr. Coffee Espresso/Cappucinno Maker
(model ECMP30/33) Bistra. I opened this up and I am pretty excited to
get things rolling. I must admit over the last several years, I have
either been getting bored with coffee or have inadvertently been

Q: I was @ Wal- Mart today, and I passed by a display for a Mr. Coffee

thought I was getting a great deal for $29.99. Well, it started to leak and
the carafe broke and I returned it. Now that I know A LOT more about the

Q: My boyfriend loves coffee, but he especially loves it from girls who wear practically nothing. There is this one coffee girl, Ashley, who he has gone to get coffee from for over a year now, but for more than a year she didn't know that my boyfriend wasn't single. She just found out a week ago and not through my boyfriend, but from the other barista she was training. My boyfriend doesn't want her to change cause she now knows he's not single. Is there something wrong with that?A: Um yes. If your boyfriend is pretending to be single...
Q: I have a combo Espresso/coffee machine, and I've been trying to make a decent Cappuccino but I've had no luck so far. I make my Espresso, and then flip the switch from Espresso to froth and wait for it to heat and then turn up the steam knob, but if any steam comes out at all, it comes from the Espresso drip, not the frothing device or even the steam tube. I've tried to steam the milk without making Espresso first, but the same thing happens. Any advice?A: If you have a warranty, then call the manufacturer and have...
Q: My Tuesday Morning $30 closeout special Farberware Espresso maker,
surely no connoisseur's machine, which has been doing OK for three

nursed it long enough and I'd like to take a step up when I replace
it.
I really, really, really, really want to buy from a real store, where

Q: Just got a new (to me, anyway) Saeco Classico SS and I am very pleased with
it for my level of espresso use. Couple of questions: First, there is a
lot of plastic levers and springs inside the basket assembly. Is this just
to keep the unit from dripping or does it actually play a part in the
brewing process? I understand the small disk with the red rubber gasket is
important, but the rest looks complicated and will built up some residue
over time. I'd like to remove that portion and just leave the disk.
Also, I am told that while...

Q: Since I'm already the OP in another thread
regarding maintenance of this machine, I think
it's only fair to report on how things are
going since it was delivered. I got it
a couple of days ago and have made four
cappuccinos so far. All have been very good.
Whether the Espresso portion would be called
a "god-shot" I can't say, since I don't have
a taste for straight Espresso. But I'm
quite satisfied with the drinks I'm getting.
I'm not totally inexperienced since I've

Q: Who says you can't sacrifice the moral high ground, Espresso-wise?
I had to. I admit that Portsmouth is not exactly the cosmopolitan or
cultural centre of the South of England (or even Hampshire for that

about 60 miles x 60 miles or whatever), but I'd rather you didn't ask me
to break down my coffee sales by exact drink type, suffice to say that
whenever a customer approaches and orders an Espresso a hushed silence
falls on the assembled barista (and -esses), followed by the Halleluja
Chorus. "Do you...
Q: From the estate of an Aunt, I received an electric Paradiso Espresso maker.
There were no operating instructions, no model number on the device. It was
made in Switzerland.
It makes two shots. The top contains the filter and a tube that goes out
and curves down and divides into two tubes for dispensing the Espresso.
Inside is a basket on a hollow stem. A hinged bracket with a knobbed screw
tightens down and holds the top to the body. There is a safety valve in the
body.
It looks pretty straight forward in operation. Open it up, pour in water,
put coffee...
Q: The answer here would probably be:
1) Make sure you have a good grinder...absolutely critical for good
espresso.
2) Make sure you're using fresh beans...(home roasted or other)
Cheers,A: I think you already know the answer to your own question. If you want to
have espresso like you had in Italia, you can't do it with a $40 machine
that's cinesi (Chinese). You're asking the impossible. You'd be insulted too

Q: I'm looking to buy a serious Espresso/cappuccino machine and I haven't
decided whether to get a manual piston maker or an electric pump

I'm also worried that the increased prep time will make it so much of
a chore that I won't use it as much. I also entertain quite a bit and

karma is just right, makes superb Espresso. I just recieved specs and
a price list...

Q: Posh coffee machines?
My boss is getting one of them huge coffee machines, like the ones at 'Starbucks'. Espressos, Americanos, Lattes, etc. How hard are they to use? I'm only used to a kettle and instant.A: They are easy enough to use, but a total pain to clean (and keep clean if others are using them too). I'd stick with one of those 'Pod' machines for use in the office. Low maintenance!
It depends on which one he gets. Make sure it's a 'Super Automatica'. It Costs more, but it's simple to use. Impressa F7 or F9 would do the...

Its description mentioned that although it worked fine when last used
eight years ago, when recently plugged in and switched on, "nothing

all.
I'm giddily anticipating tearing this thing open when it arrives, but in

Can anyone speculate what would cause no lights, no nuthin' on a Gaggia?

I've been using a old Braun machine that just steams the water through the

you'll see what I mean. These machines are "steam Espresso" machines that
operate at much lower pressure (but higher temperature) than "pump" Espresso
machines. The pump is what you want to make a drink like that served in
cafes.
You also need a good burr grinder to make Espresso (or any coffee for that

3/4 full. Add 2 - 3 heaping tablespoons of ground coffee (a
blend preferred for Espresso) into the grounds filter (the fluted
metal insert) and place it into it's receptacle/cavity, into the
lower half's water.
Attach top portion and secure.

Q: Anyone tried this? I recently saw it in a Williams-Sonoma and it
looked like it might actually work. I know it's not a real Espresso
maker but I'm not the type to ever shell out the money for one and
I've found the Chepo units too messy and hard to clean.
http://www.bialetticafe.com/pinfo-12_bialetti-mukka-express.htmlA: I have one. It does what they claim it will do. My one complaint with it
is that it is sometimes difficult to screw the upper and lower halves of the
unit together tight enough to prevent leakage at the gasket. When you do
get it together tight enough it is...
Q: I am making a coffee drink, and it calls for fresh brewed Espresso. I don't have an Esspresso maker but I do have a coffee maker and Cappuccino machine. Which one would be better to use?A: Add twice the amount of regular coffee to the brew basket, and you will have a much stronger brewed coffee. I was the first Espresso bar in a small town in Minnesota and we made our Thai coffee with Espresso. Most Asian restaurants who have it on the menu use a very strong brewed coffee. I defy you to tell the difference. Can't...
Q: Well summer's coming, and it's Frappaccino time again!
I am addicted to $tarbuck's Frappaccino, but it's just too damned expensive,
like most $tarbuck's products and drinks. I fiddled around with a recipe last
year to try and duplicate this delicious drink, but while coming close, I

(All measurements in liquid ounces)
5 oz. fresh brewed Italian Dark Roast Espresso.
About 5 oz. total crushed ice
6 oz. homo milk (need it creamy!)
2-4 oz....
Q: About a year ago a friend (?) gave me a brand-new Krups espresso/cappuccino
maker (Type FND1). One thing I noticed right away was that Krups had
"integrated" the steam valve into the on/off switch, necessitating
un-plugging the machine in order to release the pressure through the steam
nozzle. (And yes, the instruction manual specifically indicates you have to
un-plug it to release pressure - when you turn to "steam" or "coffee"
position, you're also turning on the heating element).
That poor design feature and minor annoyance aside (which could get to be
pretty major if you use your machine daily), the 3rd or 4th time I...

Q: I am seriously interested in information that can help my wife and
myself, and others who use steam operated coffee/espresso machines. We
know it is entry level, but that is the level we are at (and probably
will stay). Before anyone uses the term "steam toy", I have researched it.
Across the world and across the Internet that term refers to toys such
as steam boats, model steam engines, model steam fire-engines, and
model trains. This news group, and a handful of member's web pages, are
the only places using the term to describe steam operated
coffee/espresso machines. Thus it is NOT an accepted definition in
the English...
Q: Things I wouldn't want to do Espresso (and other coffee) without if I
could help it:
Many kitchen towels. We bought about 40 and just keep 'em cycling through
the wash. Keep them right beside the Espresso counter, dump them in a
clean trash can to await washing.
My Espresso vacuum cleaner. A cheapie found at a yard sale. Mounted under
the counter and used to pick up spilled coffee and more importantly to
clear the grinder doser of coffee that is ground wrong... a grind eraser.
Extra groove handle for blind filter. Mine has a pressure gauge mounted
on it so if I switch out the blind...
Q: Let's say you're on the road and you need to take your espresso/Cappuccino
addiction with you, but you're in the hills where coffee let alone
Espresso is unknown/commercially unobtainable. Bearing in mind the
electrical outlets provided in tatty rural motels, and your need for a
portable, but durable Espresso machine which also makes a passable
Cappuccino, do you Choose Gaggia Carrezza, or
choose Solis SL-70?
The grinder traveling with you is a Pavoni PG-C (the Imat/Nemox Lux,
Ascaso 2t conical burr set).
Will 1425 watt Gaggia trip circuit breakers at the Bates Motel, sparking
a confrontation with the Manager? Does the 1100 watt Solis SL-70 have a 3
prong plug,...
Q: I have incorporated most of the outstanding requests/suggestions
on this list. This list is also posted at the Over The Coffee
web site:
http://www.infonet.net/showcase/coffee
It is not possible to present such a list as this without
some explanation and a bit of perspective.
There is great variation from region to region (and sometimes
even from shop to shop) in the definition of specialty coffee drinks.
Please keep in mind that the following information is highly
subjective.A: Most folks in Italy just call 'Moka' (which actually might
be a trade name owned by Bialetti) 'cafè'. Things are...
Q: I heard that people have issues with 'Barista'. Before I buy one, I wanted other opinions.A: I love coffee ice creams.
Get vanilla bean ice cream and semi-cool coffee and blend it together. thats the best.I don't know, but no, DO NOT buy the Barista, or any other Starbuck's machine. We have had several (Grinders, Drip Coffee Makers, etc.) and have had nothing but trouble with them. And, surprisingly, poor customer service as well. (I wouldn't have thought that from Starbucks.) I love Starbucks coffee. (Yeah, I'm a coorporate coffee hore.) I just don't like the equipment they sell. It...
Q: Do you drink your coffee black, or with cream & sugar, or what?
What else do you add?
Do you drink Espresso or Cappucino?
How many cups of coffee do you drink every day?A: I drink my coffee with cream and sugar. I just need my coffee to be strong and not burnt. I don't know if I make the perfect pot of coffee, but it works for me. Right now I have a ghetto coffee maker. I have to boil the water first, and then pour it through the coffee and wait for it to drip into the pot, because it's...
Q: What does a PID do & why should you have one on your Gaggia? Simply put, a
PID is a super accurate and easily adjusted replacement for the Gaggia's OEM
brew and/or steam thermostats. The OEM thermostats have a very wide
dead-band of approximately 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This means that the
actual temperature of the water in the boiler may be 15 to 20 degrees higher
or lower than the optimum temperature for producing quality espresso. With a
PID the dead-band can be held to within a degree or two of the temperature
you choose to brew at.
Another excellent reason to PID your Gaggia...
Q: Hi! What are some ways to improve business for a gas station/convenience store?
I own/run a 'Getty Station'/convenience store, and I want to improve the business and bring in more customers. The gas station is located on a busy intersection. We also have an empty food space, where a 'Taco Bell' used to be. We have made an effort to bring in people to start something, but usually they don't have the money to start something there, or aren't negotiable.
Lately, ever since we started the "please prepay before pumping your gas or use your credit card" rule we've had too...
Q: What are the differences between main types of coffee, including: Espresso, Cappucino, Latte, and Frappucino?
There are many more types I couldn't list above.
Can you please tell me the differences, and how each type is made?A: Espresso is just the coffee, made in a moka or Espresso maker, under pressure.
Capp is Espresso with milk and foam on top.
Latte is Espresso with milk, no foam.
Macchiato is Espresso with a spot (mark) of milk.
Marrochino (sorry about spelling and if the name offends anyone!) is Espresso and milk foam with lots of cocoa powder added - yum!
Frappucino, I am not sure. Didn't serve...
Q: What are the top five or six Espresso drinks at a coffee house?A: 1. Macchiato
2. Cappuccino
3. Latte
4. Americano
5. Frappechino
6. Tea1 ESPRESSO MOCA
2 VANILLA TRUFFEL
3 CARMEL SCOTCH
4 CHOCOLATE MIX(its just coffee and chocolate with lots of sugar)
5 FRENCH VANILLAhttp://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...Mocha Choca Latte FabulousoCaramel Macchiato..
Mmmmm.... from Starbucks, of course........
Q: What Coffee machine would you recommend for making 'Lattes' and 'Cappuccinos'?
Ideally looking around to pay £50 max for something.
Kind of looking for a good all rounder to make Espressos, 'Cappuccinos', and mostly 'Lattes'.
There was a 'Breville' machine that did this, but apparently, it has a major design flaw (25 negatives!).A: You will not get a machine that makes Espresso for £50. At least not new.
Try an 'Aerolatte', as these come highly recommended, or a 'Swissgold' filter.
Contrary to popular opinion, great coffee doesn't necessarily mean Espresso,
it means buying great freshly roasted coffee in bean form & buying a basic coffee...
Q: Include all of the details, exactly how you would normally order your coffee, Espresso, Frappuccino or tea. Double shot, non-fat, tall, grande, venti, etc...A: Chai tea anything. Seriously. Chai tea stuff is just da bomb. :] I love it. Chai Tea Frappuccinos are kinda weird though, cause they're all green. Still tasty, but green.
When it is warm, I ALWAYS get a tall 'Iced Caramel Macchiato', or a tall 'Cafe Vanilla Frapp'.
When it is cold, I get a tall 'Caramel Macchiato', 'Apple Cider', or something new. Yes STARBUCKS!!!!!! yummy!!!!!!!!! lol I cant have 'Starbucks' that often anymore, cause I am...
Q: I hear of one that has Espresso and coffee all in one and you can by the packs. I forgot the name.A: I have a 'DeLonghi Magnifica 3300' and LOVE it! It has a bean reservoir, and a water reservoir, and grinds the beans for each cup. You can adjust the strength or size of the cup, so you can do regular coffee too.....and it works just at the push of one button! There's even a disposal tray for grinds, so you don't have to empty it out after each cup, and of course, a frother spout....
Q: I am not a hardcore coffee snob, so it needs to be really simple, and preferably on the lower price side, but I do want it to last a while and not be a piece of crap. Please give me a link to a site that tells me about it, or where I can buy one. Do you yourself have it?A: I have had a 'Braun' for 10 years with no problems. It makes good Espresso and Cap. Mine cost $100, ten years ago, but after Christmas, they will be $50. I am in Seattle, and most of my...

I will give out the 10 BA points.
Thanks xoxo
Merry ChristmassssssA: If its something instant and express, then the 'Nescafe Dolce Gusto' is for you.
It's made by 'Krups' and it uses capsules. We recently bought one, and all you do...
Q: I like Cafe Bustelo and other Latin coffees, and I also tend to like heartier European coffees. I need something that can make good coffee, even if I only want one cup at a time (I live alone), And I'd prefer to spend less than a couple hundred dollars.A: You can absolutely get a quality Espresso or coffee machine for under $200. It will be a little harder to find a good Espresso machine for that price, but you can pick one up on eBay at about 1/2 of the going retail price.
Here are a few machines I would...
Q: I'm thinking about opening a gourmet coffee house in my area, and need a good name. A name that will catch attention, but also is clear that the business involves coffee (Espresso). I've played with the idea of using my name (Tammy's .....) but it doesn't seem very "coffee" to me! I appreciate any and all suggestions! Thanks!A: What type of image are you trying to do with the coffee and pastry shop?
Is this a place only to pick up food and go, or is this a place where people can stay and sit and chat with one another?...
Q: I recently bought a secondhand stove top espresso maker but it doesn't work. Whenever I try to make a pot, only about 1/4 of the water is forced through the coffee - I end up with lots of hot water in the bottom and only a little coffee in the top section. I've replaced the rubber ring and always run it full of water so it's not those things. Help please!A: Make sure that you are using the proper ground of coffee. It should be a little coarser than you would use for an Espresso machine. If the grounds...
Q: What is the benefit of drinking coffee, especially Espresso? What are the side effects?A: Coffee contains antioxidants, which help to slow down and avert the damage done to cells through the process of metabolizing oxygen. Espresso is especially high in antioxidants because it is a strong coffee and because of the preparation process. Espresso is forced through a press or filter under high presure, but only once, so the excessive oils and undesirable elements of the coffee grounds do not enter the coffee. Some studies appear to indicate that people who drink coffee have a lower risk of developing...
Q: Everyone claims to have the best coffee in the world that is different to everyone else's.
Put it to the people, whats the best type.
Eg - Brand - Illy, Coffex, Monte, Vittoria, Grinders etc.A: One of the most popular domestic Espresso blends from a roaster in the good 'ol USA is Black Cat from Intelligentsia coffee roasters. Ask Mark Prince, the Coffee Geek himself, and this one would be at or near the top of his list.
Illy has been a long time favorite, but it can never be as fresh as beans just roasted. You want the best Espresso, you...
Q: What is the best home Espresso machine that would give me a coffee shop foam on the steamed milk?
Along with a good shot of Espresso, of course.A: Making the foam is not really an art - as the technique is easy - but can be difficult.
The best machine to make the foam for you would be the Saeco Talea line. It has a separate Milk Island attachment that foams it really well for you. Also, the Saeco machines with the Cappuccinatore attachment are excellent, but again that is separate.
Don't be afraid of the machines that you have to make...
Q: I want to buy my parents a coffee/Espresso combo machine for their anniversary, but I don't know which ones will last, and work well. Links would be greatly appreciated!A: I LOVE my 'DeLonghi Magnifica 3300', and it's usually one of the very highest rated too ... It has a bean reservoir, and grinds fresh for each cup(s); a water reservoir, so you just push a button to brew; a ground dispenser reservoir (so you don't have to empty grinds all the time); a frother; you can select strength or how large the cup(s) is ........ You can get them...
Q: I found an Italian coffee maker, that is worth about $50-60. I have also found some adorable original oil paintings. I have no idea what they are worth. I got a ladder and a wheel barrow for $5 apiece. Yay for estate sales, I love them!A: A hand painted bathroom sink with counter and vanity etc., for $20. When I looked up to find out more about it, like if it needed a special cleaner, I discovered it was worth over $1,000, if I ever had to replace it. I bought a box of old comic books for 5...
Q: What is the difference between an Espresso bean and a regular coffee bean?A: The common misconception is that Espresso refers to a different type of coffee.
Espresso actually refers to the method by which the coffee is made and not the actual bean. The method is forcing steam through the coffee. They do make a finer grind of coffee specifically for Espresso, but again, it is not the grind that bore the original name but the process. Actually, you all forgot, there are two different types of coffee beans used widely: Arabica and Robusta, SO you should ask your barrista...
Q: Do you need an Espresso machine to make a Mocha, or can you make it with a normal coffee maker? What I'm trying to do is make my favorite Mocha in the mornings on my way to work without having to go buy a Espresso machine.A: The difference is the delivery of the Espresso and coffee. By definition, you need to force the steaming water thru the Espresso under pressure.
However, you can find instant Mocha drinks today in a grocery store that doesn't require such a machine. The Mocha drink is powder that you mix with hot water, like...
Q: What is the difference between coffee and Espresso?
I've always wondered about this.A: Espresso is much more concentrated, and stronger than coffee. Both, of course, are made from ground coffee beans. Espresso is at least DOUBLE-roasted; coffee may, or may not, be double roasted, but usually isn't. The more you roast the beans, the less caffeine they actually have too:) ... Espresso is made from finely ground beans, which compacts it and makes a very strong, intense flavor; also, the beans used are the boldest possible beans. Regular coffee is made from perk, fine, coarse, or whatever grind your coffeemaker...
Q: Where does Espresso come from, and how is it different from coffee?A: Espresso is three things:
1. A roast. All coffee companies have a roast of coffee they utelize as Espresso roasted coffee.
2. It is a grind. Coffee can be ground finer or courser for various purposes. Espresso grind is very fine.
3. A brewing method. Espresso translates to rapid, or fast. When brewing a shot of Espresso, it takes roughly 20 seconds. When brewing drip coffee, it takes minutes. It is intense, quickly brewed coffee. Espresso beans are roasted longer. It's also ground into a finer product than normal drip...
Q: What is the difference between Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, and Mocha as opposed to regular coffee?
Can someone explain what these drinks are... in simple, non-familiar with coffee person terms.A: Good question. First, coffee is brewed differently then Espresso and etc. Typical coffee is drip brewed. Back in the olden days, it was percolated (or boiled)... yuck! There is also French pressed; which is very good. So, you have Espresso which very hot water is forced through the grounds. Espresso actually doesn't have as much caffeine as regular coffee (a common misconception). Cappuccino has a "Cap" or dollop of foam from...
Q: What is the difference? I just got a machine (Espresso, coffee, and milk steamer/frother) and want to know how I can make a Latte (and use the flavor syrup I bought), a French Vanilla Cappuccino, and a White Chocolate Mocha.A: Ok, a Latte is a flavored coffee/milk drink. Generally you put your flavoring in the cup first, for a 16 oz cup, it's just short of a full shot glass. For 20oz, its a full shot. You should then steam your milk to at least 160 degrees and have a nice smooth froth on top by holding the wand...
Q: I looked up a Latte recipe, and it calls for Espresso coffee, but I have just regular Folgers coffee.A: In a Nutshell? Espresso is ground much more fine than regular 'Folgers' coffee. It is then "Tamped" (Or compacted slightly), and hot water is forced through the grounds, to create a much stronger, darker type coffee. This is what is used in coffee house drinks such as Lattes, Cappuccinos, and such.
You can purchase a home Espresso machine from a store ('Wal-Mart'/'Kohls', etc...), and with a little practice, you too will be able to make a mean Mocha! Espresso is the...
Q: I drink 4-6 strong Espresso coffees each morning and that is usually it for the day. I don't feel any negative side effects.A: There is about 100mg of caffeine in a cup of Espresso. 8,000mg will kill you.
It's said that 250mg will cause mild side effects, which is usually why people need their coffee every day. Two cups daily, I'd imagine, would lead to a slight addiction.
It's up to nearly 800mg before it starts to really affect your body.
600mg a day should be your max.
Totally just googled the second part, but I know how much kills you. ;)

Q: What do you say to the barista? For example: "Could I get a Double Cinnamon Mocha quarter five whole with mint, rasberries, blueberries, love, and a slice of immortality please?"A: I have a problem stomaching Starbucks coffee, so I order "Venti iced Tazo Passion tea with 2 splendas." If I order coffee from a cafe with a good Espresso blend and talented baristas I order "16oz quad ristretto Americano with 1 oz sugar free vanilla, and a splash of nonfat to cool it down" Since I am a coffee snob, I have to just make it myself usually!
I do...
Q: What kind of coffee beans do you need to make Espresso?A: Pre-ground coffee is simply a waste of money, sorry.
In terms of the bean the first requirement is that they have been freshly roasted, regardless of what they are.
The next point is the beans themselves. Most Espresso roasts have traditionally been a blend of beans, the idea being that no 1 single bean provides the perfect cup of Espresso.
However, at Londinium Espresso we have put considerable effort into developing single origin roasts, giving you the opportunity to experience the unique characteristics of each bean around the world.
It must be...
Q: I'm going to go to 'Starbucks' to buy coffee for my Espresso machine, but I'm not sure which one to buy. I want to make white chocolate Mochas at home.A: I prefer blends of coffee because they include both dark and light roasted beans. Try to ask for shade grown coffee. I don't know if they have any, but they should. Shade grown coffee does not contribute toward deforestation because the coffee trees are planted under the shade of adult trees. Starbucks have a wonderful choice. Explain your preference in roast-type (dark, medium, etc.) and the type of coffee...
Q: I'm getting an Espresso machine off of Target.com and I'm not sure what kind of coffee to buy. Is it better to grind your own, buy the pods, or just use regular ground coffee?? Thanks!A: Regular ground coffee will be too coarse a grind for an Espresso. I would invest in a coffee bean grinder and some Espresso or French roast beans. (A darker roast is necessary for good Espresso). Some places (I.E. - coffeehouses) will grind beans for you if you buy them at that coffeehouse. Some grocery stores also have coffeebean grinders you can use. I don't...

Q: What makes Espresso different from regular coffee?
Can you buy straight Espresso?A: Coffee beans and Espresso beans are slightly different. The Espresso bean is a blend of several types of coffee beans from different countries around the world. The beans are roasted until they are dark and oily-looking. The two main differences between coffee and Espresso are the fineness of the grind and the brewing time. The brewing time for Espresso is much shorter, made possible by Espresso machines that generate up to 15 atmospheres of pressure to force hot water through the ground coffee.
I'm sure you can buy it...
Q: I don't want to invest in an espresso machine. Is there a recipe for Cappuccinos, Latte's, or any of those types of drinks that just use regular drip-coffee?A: If you make your drip coffee very, very strong, then you can use it in place of Espresso in drinks like Cappuccinos, Lattes, etc. However, you will need to heat and froth (or whip) the milk. If you don't have a steamer, then heat the milk to about 65 degrees C/ 149 F and then whisk it by hand or electric beater. Some people use a coffee plunger pot to froth...

Q: Hi, buying myself one of these to do them at home, between the gas savings and the cost at 'Starbucks' nowadays, this bad boy will pay for itself... :) What's a good quality machine for home use? Thanks in advance!A: I used to work in a cookshop that sold lots of different Espresso machines, and I think as an ex Sales Assistant, I have information that you might find essential. There are lots of things to consider:
First, do you want a manual/traditional machine (better quality usually) or an automatic machine (e.g. put a pod in the machine and press...
Q: What's better - coffee or Espresso?
If you chose coffee, what is the best blend?
If you chose Espresso, what is the best? Example: Café Latte, Espresso Macchiato, etc, etc.A: I think coffee. It tastes much better to me, and I can sip it. As far as Espresso, it will wake you up, but for me, it does not taste good so i have to chug it. My best blend is 'Folgers' French Vanalla.' In my humble opinion, Espresso is better...as long as it is fresh. I prefer mine with a twist of orange to accentuate the acidity, but allow for...
Q: What's the best espresso machine in the under $250 range?
I never had espresso before but visited a Starbucks and tried their
Espresso Frappuccino and flipped over them! I want to make them at
home, plus regular espressos.
I read a review by Chef Rosemary Furfaro on the web that said pump
style machines are the best and come closest to store bought
espresso.
She said:
"This machine won my award for best in the lighter weight pump style
category....The cup of espresso was delicious and quite close to
café quality with golden, thick cream."
True?
I can't afford much but it sounded from that review that the
Cuisinart Coffee Bar Cappuccino/Latte/Espresso...
Q: Using a cheap Mr. Coffee machine?A: Buy a good, strong Espresso coffee. At your house, you really need a Espresso machine. I have a small one that I bought at 'Target' for 25 bucks, it works wonders. I take my sugar and put it on the little pot, where the coffee is going to be catch on then, when the coffee starts pouring, whip the sugar and the coffee together to create foam, then I steam my milk in the machine just like them moving up and down the cup do it will create foam. Be careful to NOT...
Q: How do you make a Cappucino? At some gas stations, they have Cappuccino and coffee machines, and I'm always confused, do I have to mix the two to make a Cappuccino, or does the Cappuccino machine prepare the Cappuccino the way it is supposed to be already.A: Gas station Cappuccino is not real Cappuccino. Generally, they use a powdered mix and run hot water through it, like hot chocolate. Real Cappuccino is made from Espresso coffee and steamed milk. Cappucino is made with Expresso and milk that has been frothed (foamy on top). The coffee you're referring to is...
Q: What's the difference between a Latte, coffee, Espresso & Cappuccino?A: LATTE - Strong Espresso coffee with a topping of frothed, steamed milk.
COFFEE - The "beans" or "berries" (pyrenes) obtained from the drupes of a small evergreen tree of the genus Coffea, growing in Abyssinia, Arabia, Persia, and other warm regions of Asia and Africa, and also in tropical America.
ESPRESSO - A strong coffee brewed by forcing steam under pressure through darkly roasted, powdered coffee beans.
CAPPUCCINO - Coffee with frothy hot milk and usually dusted with chocolate powder on top. A BIG difference in my opinion. A Latte is just...
Q: They are both coffee, but Espresso is roasted a bit darker and it is stronger, and you drink it in little cups.

The brewing time for Espresso is much shorter, made possible by Espresso machines that generate up to 15 atmospheres of pressure to force hot water through the ground coffee.
When the Espresso is placed into a small filtered basket, it is tightly packed with about 40lbs of pressure. Coffee is loose...
Q: Is there much difference? I made Cappuccino with coffee grounds, and it tastes pretty good, but the coffee grounds ended up in my Cappuccino. Are coffee grounds smaller than Espresso grounds? Is that why theys snuck through the filter?A: Actually, TURKISH grind is the finest level of grind. It ends up as close to powdered coffee as a grinder gets. Authentic Turkish grind is not ground, but smashed with a Mortis and Pestle.
The DIFFERENCE in beans or grounds, of Coffee & Espresso are: Espresso is typically a darker roasted bean. It roasts longer/hotter, and the bean itself has less...
Q: So want to start making coffee/Lattes at home to save money but wondering whats the difference between a coffee maker and an Espresso maker(besides the name) b/c they both look to do the same thing. Hot water over grinded coffee. Want to buy a cheaper simple machine but wondering if I can make Espresso in a coffee maker and vice versa. Thanks.A: Lets get this straight;
The difference between Espresso & all other methods of making coffee is the use of PRESSURE to force the hot water through the coffee.
The use of pressure, combined with a fine grind to hold...
Q: I am a newbie to coffee drinking. I don't like coffees that are really strong. When I get coffee, I always add cream, sugar and flavorings, if they are available. What do you reccomend?A: Espresso-brewed by compression with steam (pretty strong).
Latte- steamed milk and espresso
Cappuccino-foamed milk and espresso(if made correctly it will weigh next to nothing)
Mocha- a latte with chocolate sauce(sometimes choc. milk is used instead
Frappe-a drink blended with ice...these come in many varieties but are most commonly found with vanilla or chocolate)
I would recomend a Mocha, if you like chocolate or a vanilla(or other flavored) Latte. I don't...

Q: I just bought a Tassimo hot beverage maker. You know, the machine that makes - (deep breath) - 'American coffee', Cappuccino, 'Twinings English tea', 'Suchard Hot chocolate', 'Carte Noire Crema Intenso', 'Latte Machiato', and a good-old-fashioned Espresso.
Anyway... I want to try making a selection of different mini-desserts for different drinks. Say, three flavours for each drink.
(I've got a lotta time on my hands, and a lotta friends who want to try the machine).
So, what I've got as the perfect accompanying flavours are:
1)
Lemon cake, vanilla ice and chopped fresh mango,
...to go with the tea.
2)
Brownie, pot of hot fudge, fresh half-strawberries,

Q: What would you enjoy better with a thick creamy slice of cheese cake: Tea, coffee, or Espresso ?
What would you enjoy most with cheese cake? Tea, coffee, Espresso or other?A: Beautiful, sweet, full of flavour, and yummy question.
For me, the Espresso would be the best choice for the contrast of flavour between both match so well.
Have this deserved star (off to find cheese cake somewhere). Right now, I am thinking a Cappuccino would probably work best for me on this one. I was able to enjoy a slice of cheese cake and a Cappuccino just a few days ago,...
Q: When saying "coffee", what do you mean, and what's the deference between coffee and Espresso?A: One among other diferences..
Coffee could make you stay awake for 1 hour.
Epresso could make you stay awake for 10 hours. Coffee is a hot beverage that gets you to wake up in the morning, but an Espresso is an energizing kicker that keeps you going, and going like the 'Energizer Bunny'. Coffee is made from a coarser grind of coffee beans, while Espresso is made from a fine grind of a specific Espresso roast. Coffee is made in a coffee maker, while Espresso is...

Has anyone experienced any accidents (such as explosions) from pressing down too hard?A: Don't press it down to hard, just fill it (the holder with the tiny holes), and leave it at that if you press it down, the coffee will have a difficult time going through and on top of that it will be tar and yes the pot can blow up and what a mess to clean up!
I make it every day so I know all...
Q: We love Cappuccino, and received a Cappuccino maker for Christmas. The directions call for "Espresso coffee." Is this different than other coffees? We have not been able to find any "Espresso coffee" in any store so far. All we can find is Cappuccino, but it is a mix that you put in hot water. Please help, so we can start enjoying this gift. Thanks in advance.A: Any coffee shop. You can go to 'Starbucks' and get it if you want. Some grocery stores sell whole bean coffee too. Other than that, you can try searching online for local roasters,...

Q: I'm having an Espresso bar at my wedding, and want to rent an Espresso machine just for a day or two. The only place I could find wanted to send a barista with it, which of course would cost more. I already have a barista lined up to do it, but can't find a place to get the Espresso machine from. Thanks!A: Why not buy the kind you can get at the store - they are not too expensive. We have a coffee maker that has an Espresso and Cappucino maker. We love it. $50.00 tops. Cheaper than renting...
Q: I want to buy an Espresso coffee machine, but I don't know where, and I dont know which Espresso machine is good. Help me. Thanks.A: You will have to go to a specialist store, since most people there are happy with instant or brewed coffee. There isn't much demand for Espresso or machines that brew it. The first place that comes to mind is 'Starbucks', they have an Espresso machine, but I don't know if all stores in the Philippines sell it. You will probably be able to order it, though.
Another alternative would be those stovetop Espresso makers/pots. They...
Q: Where is pop culture headed in the future, hot beverage wise? Coffee, espresso, capuccino, & ect?
Need opinions on this for marketing plan.A: coffee, Espresso and Cappuccinos have been popular for centruies .... trends come and go, but these will always be popular! Hopefully, though, people will learn to appreciate the true goodness of coffee and stop adding all that whipped cream and syrup to them, or, at least, don't call that coffee! :) I suggest you do a poll ranking between age groups just to clarify, because you can't really express all Americans as liking one kind.
I love Mochas,...
Q: I'm also in the hunt for a classic, jewel-of-the-kichen, retro-designed, home Espresso machine. Any brands you would advise to check out?A: There is no high end ground coffee- to get high end and good flavor, invest 15 bucks or so on a grinder, store the beans in the freezer, and grind just before brewing.
My personal favorite is jamacain blue mountain coffee. YOu can order it here: http://www.bluemountaincoffee.com
As far as an Espresso machine, try the 'Breville Cafe Roma', available at just about any line high end store. Look for the most expensive ones, usually shade grown. That is coffee that...
Q: I want to buy an Espresso machine 'Group One' handled, but I don't know which is great and can afford? Also, which in Espresso machine of semi automatic, automatic, or fuly automatic is great?A: I love my 'Espressione Cafe Retro'. I've had it for three years, with no trouble and use it every day. I use the Illy Espresso pods (which I buy at Williams Sonoma for $11/18 pods). I believe the machine was around $350. Previously, we had a professional machine, which my husband took to his bar so there was a lot to live up to. I...
Q: I have been researching espresso makers. I would
like to buy a decent machine, mostly for latte
and cappuccino. I have it kind of narrowed down
to Saeco Via Veneto vs. Gaggia Espresso. How do
these measure up? Is there a different,
comparably priced machine that is a better buy?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.A: Another machine you might want to look at that is available at an excellent
price is the Gaggia Coffee, which is available at a very reasonable price
refurbished from the service center for America, ElectraCraft.
They sell the machines on ebay with a 6 month warranty,...
Q: Can anybody recommend a value for money (UK), available home Espresso maker
that gives a really good crema. I like cappuccino/latte style and
occasional Espresso. I have a 'Krups Filter Maker' which is good; I am
thinking up to £200 budget,
Gaggia?
Cheers in advance.
Coffee BoyA: Hows about a little "Take Five" first...or, since it is the holiday season
and all, maybe somthing from "A Brubeck Christmas"?
How's our local guy Bobby Millitello these days? excellent! another jazz fan.
I'd say Gaggia or a second hand Silvia, i got
mine (plus rocky) in an unbelivebly good deal from an alt.coffee -er for
250. Could do what you want...
Q: I like Cuban Espresso coffee, but I have heard that it has more than double the caffeine of regular coffee, because the beans they use are different.A: The average single shot of Espresso (made with arabica) contains between 45 and 70 mg of caffeine. A 12 ounce cup of instant coffee can have as much as 350mg of caffeine.
However, since Espresso doesn't refer to a type of coffee, but rather the brewing method used to make it, how much caffeine in it will depend upon the beans used. 'Robusta' coffee beans contain 40-50% more caffeine than 'Arabica' coffee beans....
Q: Which is the best brand of coffee maker?
I want to buy a machine that makes delicious filter/Capuccino/Espresso coffee. Any recommendations?A: Has to be a Gaggia, but they are very expensive. We have 'Krups' which was £150 and was worth every penny. They stuck it in 'Debenhams' still. It has a filter a 2nd facility to steam the milk and do the coffee for 1 or 2 cups at a time.
Had ours 2 years this xmas. We love the smell too, especially if you
grind the beans. Gaggia TEBE... available on Amazon, just like the 'real' Espresso makers. Invest in the...
Q: I've heard that the acid in coffee isn't good for women, but does that include Espresso drinks like Lattes? I was thinking that I would stop drinking straight coffee and just stick to a Latte or a Mocha, for the added benefit of calcium in the milk, etc. Would this make a difference, or are they both equally bad? Thanks!A: New studies out show that coffee in moderation is actually good for women in preventing heart disease (although not really in men!). So, both regular coffee and Espresso are good for you in moderation!
Espresso is coffee. They just call...
Q: Why brass or copper boilers in the coffee Espresso machines are considered to be the “best choice”?A: 1. Heat efficiency. Due to its EXTRAORDINARY THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY and THERMAL CAPACITY, brass gets hot much faster and keeps heat much longer than aluminum and stainless steel.
2. Anti-corrosion resistance. Even though brass getting the thin film of the oxidized layer on the outside surface it doesn't get corroded inside. Aluminum oxidizes very fast, corrodes internally and doesn't keep the right temperature that the Espresso extraction requires.
3. Health benefits. Copper is considered to be one of the most effective antibacterial metals. In ancient...
Q: Ok, I live in Seattle and people that are NW natives think coffee/Espresso is some magic elixir that must add years to your life, increase your bra size and/or make your pecker 5" bigger the way they fiend for the stuff. I drink ONE cup of coffee AT HOME in the morning when I wake up, thats it. So whenever I go to a coffee place to do some wifi with my laptop I buy a non-coffee/Espresso drink, like a bottled Coke or some juice, or some kind of pastry. Other times, I just go in and buy the...
Q: Why do Colorado's 'Draconian' laws prevent liquor-licensed coffee shops from selling Espresso martinis to-go?
It's an outrage, really.A: What...no booze? This is insanity. Join me in New Orleans...we'll get plastered all day and night...in public. No one cares, as long as you don't hurt anybody. You will be a good squirrel, right? You can't be puttin the rabies on anybody. First, Jane is incorrect, the democrats control both statehouses and the governor's office.
She is correct that open containers of liquor are not allowed. DUH!! I wonder why? Gee, maybe we don't want a bunch of drunks with coffee martinis or...
Q: As compared to Starbucks coffee or chocolates. I consume them within two weeks of purchase and keep them stored in a cool dry place.
Why does my home-made coffee taste salty instead of rich and sweet?A: Salty or a little bite? I found mine had a bite to it, so I cleaned my coffee pot. Run vinegar through your coffee pot, and then run clear water through to rinse it. This works great and the taste is back to normal. Are you adding chocolate to your coffee? If so, many chocolates have salt added. Try adding cocoa, milk and sugar...
Q: This doesn't happen if I drink regular drip coffee, only when I drink strong Espresso.A: Ummm... I have a question for you: Why are you telling people what your pee smells like? I know that we are supposed to help you, but if I were you, I wouldn't want to give away that kind of private information.
Coffee (Espresso) is a very strong drink and it also has caffeine, so because it is strong going in, it will be strong going out. By the way, eww!
:) You are processing the Espresso into coffee....
Q: Why does 'Starbucks' give you Espresso in a little cup? Is Espresso stronger than regular coffee? If so, why?A: Espresso is a very concentrated form of coffee. It is served in "shots", just like if you were drinking alcohol straight. If you were drinking alcohol, you wouldn't just fill your glass up with straight booze, you would mix it with something. So, if you want a drink in a big cup, you would want to order a Latte or a Cappuccino, which is Espresso, milk, and foam. If you just order Espresso on its own, it's just a straight...
Q: For non-Aussies and Kiwi's, a 'Flat White' is an Espresso coffee, made with milk (but not as much milk as a Latte), and not a lot of foam (so it's not a Cappucino either). They only seem to be called 'Flat Whites' in Aus & NZ and I'm curious as to why. We also have the 'short black' (which anywhere else in the world would be called an Espresso) and the 'long black' (a tall Espresso.) Again - no idea why they're called these names and I'd love to know why!A: I traveled to Australia and NZ over Winter...
Q: I have seen an Espresso maker in Woolworths, (their own brand) for £40
reduced from £80.
Has anyone got any comments to make about the quality of the machine and the
coffee it makes?A: I think you are right David.........They are selling them here on the West
coast for $131.00 Can. approx 63 GBP! I think they are mfg. in Australia.
Hi, having owned a Cafe Roma myself, which I got for AU$99 in stainless
steel - so not that different to the UK special price - here are a few
observations:
Portafilter: Very lightweight aluminium with plastic 'crema disc'
insert. If you use the machine...
