Q: Italian Coffee Maker - regular coffee vs. espresso - Cholesterol?
A: First time I've heard of that one... A filter can reduce cholesterol from coffee? Is there much cholesterol in coffee to begin with? If so, how can a paper or mesh filter, make it healthier. I think that's a big myth. I happen to brew 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee in a vaccum brewing coffee machine. It uses a mesh filter and makes EXCELLENT cups of coffee. I buy the coffee at www.FASTCAFE.com

All animal meats, all products from animals contain cholesterol. Beans don't. What raises the cholesterol level in coffee and espresso et al is the "stuff" you add. Like creamers and flavor mixes that contain milk, egg or other animal products.

It is a common misunderstanding that food needs to contain cholesterol to affect the cholesterol level in jour blood. In fact, most of your blood cholesterol is made by your own body. And food with no cholesterol may very well affect the way your body makes the compound. And coffee is one of many elements in your diet that may raise or lower your blood cholesterol. Apparently the way coffee is made matters. Filtered coffee seems to be the better choice in this respect. And sadly enough, that wonderful Italian espresso brew carries some compounds that will raise your cholestrol levels. Search for Coffee and Cholesterol. This is well documented.
