Despite this information, scientists cannot explain why coffee has significantly lower caffeine levels when it is in its dry state; this changes upon preparation of the beverage.
Most people associate this huge difference with the production process. The area tea growing takes place is also put into consideration. Tea is packaged in particles that differ in size, harvesting is different and the brewing process is also very different for both beverages. Studies have proved that the caffeine content in a particular tea lea is largely dependent on the location of the leaf on the tea bush. Leaves o the lower parts of the bush contain more caffeine than those on the top. As a tea leaf grows older its concentration levels go up.
