Too much caffeine? Really?

I think for me, any sort of caffeine-free, or life without any stimulant is a true hell on earth. But anyway, the following is a random crap brought to you by some random internet fool who randomly signed up for a random coffee forum to post his random rant after screaming at yet another jerk on MSN who recommended that I give up coffee for tea. Yeah right.

First of all, these ridiculous prejudices I've seen against coffee drinkers about how "they'd be able to function perfectly fine without it" are... uhh... lol. What about people who were born out of a genetic cesspool, such as myself, the polar opposite of people running around screaming like brats, with enormous, idiotic grins on their faces? I don't think I can accept that everyone has the good fortune to come into this world being able to function well enough if they stick to healthy diet and exercise. Believe me, I've been there, and I still eat fairly well and exercise. It may sound absurd, but the only perceivable difference for me is improved cognition, skin, and a few other things I won't bother to mention. Doctors laugh at me, my parents and relatives are all hurr-durr, and most of my friends are insane mofos who would try to kill me after a measly sip of caffeine. Everyone thinks I can function without stimulants, but I don't care what they think. What's the worst that can happen? Adrenal fatigue? LOL. What, there's a worse fatigue than being without stimulants? I still have yet to see anybody cite evidence of caffeine causing problems involving the adrenal glands. Aren't they all just mooching ignorance off of each other, kind of like an infinitely branching tree of internet stupidity?

Secondly, according to every self-proclaimed health guru, if I'm not mistaken, it is highly recommended to cap your caffeine intake at somewhere between 200 and 400mg. Apparently statistics hate me, and so I have to intake a minimum of 8-10 cups of coffee a day, each consisting of approximately 130mg of caffeine(instant nescafe), if I want to be without or at least mostly without the perception of fatigue. This is after abstaining, too. The only times I have side effects are when I hit the 20+ cup mark, and that's only occasionally, and usually on the first day or two after abstaining. Sleep onset seems to be kind to me after a day of heavy coffee drinking as well. I've never had withdrawal, or maybe that's just because I always feel shitty without stimulants? Perhaps I'm missing something important, or do most people just blindly believe that we all metabolize caffeine at the same rate as the next guy, therefore everyone is going to have for example, [x/2]mg of caffeine in their system [y] amount of time after consuming [x]mg of caffeine? Every article or study I've read seems like it only applies to people who would rip the door off of a bathroom stall after abstaining, then drinking several times their usual morning cup of coffee. Maybe I should part from my sanity and drink as much as Voltaire was thought to of had(at least 30 cups a day). Or maybe I should educate myself by reading through all 24526 pubmed entries on caffeine so I can start yelling at people about how they're killing themselves too.

I've also been down the nootropic experimentation route, but everything I've tried has been complete garbage as far as I'm concerned. If it's not a "stimulant" like caffeine or ephedrine, I probably can't feel it. Am I killing myself? No. Screwing myself over? Maybe, but so what? I've been this way since I was 11-12 years old, and I'm 21 now. I don't think I can screw myself over anymore than I have, and I can honestly say that I don't believe people when they say that caffeine causes adrenal fatigue, or adrenal deficiency, or whatever they call it nowadays.

Oh shit, it's nearly 6 in the morning! Maybe I should stop drinking so much caffeine so that I can sleep an hour after waking up and have one hour days for the rest of my life, eventually becoming homeless and living on the streets. Cooking wine and as much sleep as I want. In all seriousness, though, If only it weren't such a pain to haul coffee around everywhere with me, and/or run up and down the stairs to make it all day long, I'd probably drink myself to the point of vomiting.

Now am I just very eccentric, or can anyone sympathize at all? Or maybe I'm insane.

Yeah, no one likes tea-drinking hippies anyway. We all indulge in stimulants - for some it's caffeine. For other it's porn. For caffeine-hating health gurus it's chillin' on their high (or not so high in this case) horse. I get the same way - I can go without caffeine, but I feel so much better after a bit of Vitamin "C".

Oh come on, yerba mate is awesome tea. About 3 dollars in bulk for 100g, and then you can infuse the whole thing and drink it alongside some coffee. Then you can brag to all your family and friends about how 1500-2000mg of your caffeine intake comes from healthy tea that tastes like tobacco(or at least tastes like the smell of tobacco, since I've only experienced second-hand smoke). Of course, I'm not going to give up coffee for yerba mate, because I'd have to drink even more of it than I drink of coffee..

And yeah, screw the caffeine haters who think they're the bloody energizer bunny just because they have perfected the art of sipping on their caffeine-free teas and moldy wheatgrass juice.

Caffeine is kind of random for me. Usually I can sleep just as well if not better with it, although my body occasionally decides to be a prick and wake me up a couple hours later with a raging heartbeat when it never affects me that way otherwise. Ironically, when this happens, I feel much better than when I get a full night's rest. I guess I inadvertently have some sort of power sleep, instead of a power nap? Hopefully one day I can get my genes spliced so that caffeine and other stimulants affect me in a consistent and easily understood way. >

I'm with Helli3yte -- I drink coffee every day (2 cups) and it does nothing to keep me from feeling tired or ready for bed. I've often drunk the 2 cups in the morning, then climbed back into bed and gone back to sleep.

I definitely have some side effects, such as very slight shaking of my hands after I finish my two cups (usually subsides thereafter), a bit of dehydration (get thirsty for water), and stuff like that. But not much of an energizing/waking effect beyond the first couple of sips....

Coffee can kill you, just as any other drug, in small amounts, caffeine is a stimulant. When it is taken regularly, it can lead to addiction, and it may cause health problems.

Caffeine is a drug the FDA hasnt banned because of the addiction you guys share physically and psychologically. Too bad sharing a healthy coffee is banned here because the FDA claims the labeling is Mislabeled. If the caffeine was labeled to be addictive and cause body ailments then why isnt it banned?? Maybe because the pharmaceudicals which happen to be FDA approved and certified would lose money if there were less disease in the nation!!! You must work for them making statements like "I don't care if ganoderma made you stand up and you've been crippled your entire life" Ms Pinkrose!!!.

I find I have a very small window for the "right" amount of caffeine. If I don't have at least 10 oz of coffee in the morning, I'm pretty worthless. If I go over 16 oz, I feel a little jittery. And if I drink any after 11 am, I'm liable to have trouble sleeping that night. Makes it so difficult to forego that afternoon pick-me-up - but I know I will regret it later.
