    COFFEE SAMPLES

Does anyone know where you can get outstanding coffee samples? I'm considering opening a coffee shop, and would like to try some.

Would it not be better to commit yourself to the idea of opening a shop before obtaining samples from potential suppliers?

Dude - you really need to think about your location. Shipping will eat away your profits. Where are you located? Maybe we can help you identify a 1st rate roaster nearby. We would all love your business, but it's not going to serve you to try to buy coffee from a roaster that is three states away when you probably have an awesome option within a reasonable drive from your location.

Bean Grinder is on the money is trying to find a good to excellent roaster in your area within an hours drive. If you can get to a coffee/espresso festival where vendors are there showing their wears and you can try their coffee all day long you will get a ton of information at one of these shows. Example: Coffee Fest (www.coffeefest.com) or a great magazine for information is "Fresh Cup"

I was told one should do about six months of research before going into the coffee business. First thing and probably the most important thing they say is location, location, location even if you pay more than another spot it will make up for some of the mistakes in the beginning. Having enough capitol you will be able to run the store for 3 months without a profit. During the six months of looking for a location, where you will buy the equipment, fixtures and what you will be serving besides coffee for added sales. Another important thing to consider that some people don't think about is having a great logo/name made by a professional who can make your signs, letterheads, etc. A great look will make a great impression by having a great design unless you are a professional graphics arts person. Who will do the design of the store along with finding a good roaster in your area. I am sure many others can add a ton of things to research and think about during the location find. Also while looking for a location, look for a location that is on the side of the street people are driving to work in the morning which is easy for people to pop in quickly which will up your sales a ton. A location with a drive-thru or a location that a drive through could be put in is important towards your bottom line and upping your gross sales.
