I have been buying caffe mochas from a local coffe shop for a couple months now. They are similar to the ones starbucks makes. However, they get expensive after awhile so I bought an espresso machine to try to make them myself. I bought this espresso machine:

I don''t really know what I''m doing so I''ve been trying to follow these articles on ehow and also have referenced many other random websites.

http://www.ehow.com/how_963_make-caffe-mocha.html
http://www.ehow.com/how_413_make-espresso.html

They all say very different things about how to make a caffe mocha. Some of them say the same amount of espresso to milk, and some say you need a lot more steamed milk than espresso. Some say make t he espresso first, and others say steam the milk first. Also some have different orders on putting the ingredients into the final cup.

Here are the ingredients I''ve been using:
Folgers Ground Coffee Espresso Roast (Dark Roast)
Genuine Chocolate Flavor Hershey''s Syrup (Just regular hershey''s syrup that you would use for ice cream)
2% Milk

I don''t have a grinder, which is why I''m using the pre-ground espresso.

I like it how my local coffee shop makes it. I don''t like the taste of straight coffee at all, but I like being able to taste the espresso to a certain point in the mocha. Some of my attempts have tasted way too much like plain coffee, and others have tasted like hot chocolate. I''m not really sure what ratio of each ingredient I''ve been using, or if I''ve been using the right ingredients.

Any tips at all are greatly appreciated : )

Hamilton Beach makes OK products.

Look at some grinders at Target or Walmart.

There you will find blade grinders, maybe a burr grinder. Blade grinders are cheaper than burr grinders. The only problem with Blade Grinders is it builds heat to the coffee as it grinds the beans.

If you want Espresso you need to decide if you want milk based or not.

From your post look for espresso that is milk based.

Forget buying espresso in a store, its not going to be the quality you desire.

Espresso Roast is the easist roast a person can do, requires no skill.

If you're in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area call me, I'll give you a sample of Latte Espresso. Then use it in your machine. You'll noticed a difference.

You'll save money and enjoy Mochas at home.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Those ehow.com instructions are really not very good. To understand and learn how to make a good espresso, try
http://www.home-barista.com/
http://www.coffeegeek.com/

Once you learn how to make a good espresso, not to mention plunking down hundreds if not thousands on equipment  , you can try your hand on making a good caffe latte. Once you learn that, just add chocolate syrup to your latte.

But thank you for the ehow links, I'd finally found an avatar worthy of moi.

The way we do mocha is to put a bottom-fill of the syrup into a 12oz cups. Then we add double shot of espresso, which should be around 25-30ml. Then we add steamed milk and fill until there's about 1cm left. We always put cream on top.

That's the info you need, right?

Folgers coffee is robusta I'm guessing, even if it's not instant, so I'd go find some decent beans first. Not sure if you like Hershey's, I'm not a fan of it personally... Try DaVinci's syrup for starters.
