Does anyone know of any roaster selling coffee which is designated both Bird Friendly and Direct Trade? Maybe it's cost prohibitive or impossible for the farmers to earn both designations.? Any input would be appreciated.
Great question and I hadn't thought about the distinction. After review, it seems Fair Trade revolves more around the "cooperatives" or groups of farmers and showing a social responsibility and fairness towards them. Direct Trade seems to focus more on developing a relationship with individual farmers and working more directly toward creating better product (beans). Does this seem accurate? Anybody
When I did a "Google" search for Fair Trade vs. Direct Trade a lot of information came up. I also tried to find Direct Trade and Bird Friendly Coffee, but I ran out of time. It's an interesting topic to explore. Perhaps someone on this forum will have an answer your question regarding a roaster that offers both.
There are Fresh Roasted Coffee Beans that are both Certified Bird Friendly as well as Fair Trade visit Your Online Coffee Fresh Roasted Coffee Beans | Fair Trade Coffee | Organic Coffee and see their selection of Bird Friendly coffee from Bolivia, Columbia, and Nicaraguan. The best part is that most are Organic too. I know that they will be able to help you.
