Hi,

I'm a little on confused on how to make the perfect cut of latte. Some places seem to tell me that it's just espresso with steamed milk and a spoonful of foam on top while others tell me that it's thick with froth and steamed milk marbleized together.

I personally like the thicker one, but I'm wondering if maybe there's a difference because "latte" and "cafe latte" are actually different drinks?

Thanks!

12 ounce caffè latte according to SCAA:
9.5 ounces of steamed milk, double espresso and a quarter inch of foam.

In Italy, ask for latte will get you a glass of milk; in the US, latte is the same as caffè latte. A good latte is essentailly espresso flavored milk and a bad one is crapola with defected espresso shots.

Without getting too deep into the technical, I agree with N.C. they are the same drink. Here in the U.S. we tend to keep things simple. It's when you travel to other countries, that things change. In fact here in Washington, most customers no longer say Cafe Latte, they just say Latte.
