Vacuum coffee maker: modified filter tech from electric to stove top Bodum Santos

New to the site.... I like a few cups of coffee in the morning and for the last ten years or so I have had a Starbucks Barista electric vacuum maker (which is the same as the Bodum Santos electric that enters and leaves the market from time to time). It finally bit the dust again. The first time I had to remove the delayed timer circuit and rewire it due to some kind of board failure. Now it has the dreaded cracks around the burner... so it leaks from the bottom pot.

I ordered a classic stove top Bodum Santos vacuum a few weeks ago on ebay for $50ish shipped to me. The "filter" continuously jammed up... trapping the coffee up top. So I ordered an old silex glass filter.... a little better, but was letting too much sediment through and still clogging from time to time.

My electric vacuum's filter never did clog.... hmmm. Whipped out the drill and combined the old Bodum filter with the new one's spring and chain.... works great!!

Hello "BigBroncoJeff"

Welcome to the Coffee Forums website.

I think it's great that you're able to tinker with your coffee makers and get them to work.

I'd even give up being able to spell if I could do stuff like that.

I liked your edit comment (kant speel) It made me laugh on an otherwise dreary day.

Thanks. It's in my nature to not let anything mechanical or electrical die.... or even function poorly.

This will explain my user name:
