I recommend the Ascaso Steel Uno (my current machine) very highly. I found it here with both PID and non PID options, both of which leave you enough for a good grinder within your 1200$ budget.

If you prefer an HX, there's the Expobar pulser available from Whole Latte Love either new or refurbished. The new one leaves some money for buying a grinder but much fewer options, while the refurbished costs about the same as the PID Steel, leaving plenty for the grinder
