Hello pepper,

Well it's really two very different kinds of coffee preperation. It really depends on what you prefer. I've put in some wikipedia links to help with your research:

French Press: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_press

Cappachino: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappachino

Espresso (the core of Cappachino): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso

I hope the links help you decide. I'd recommend going to a local coffee shop any trying a few different kinds of drinks to see what you like.

In my opinion, the best way to make espresso is to use a stovetop coffee maker.
The key to getting the best flavor is to follow the right steps:

Very different animals you are working with there!

I like the hands on approach from a French Press. Minimal distortion from outside elements and machinery, just water and coffee au natural.

It really depends on what kind of coffee you drink most of the time. If you drink mostly espresso, cappuccino or lattes you will probably want to invest in an espresso maker. If you drink mostly regular coffee then a French press or Drip coffee brewer is what you want. I found this website that explains many of the differant coffee brewing methods.
