Hey everyone,
Just got a variety of new beans to roast. Roasted two so far a Kenya AA and Tanzania Peaberry. Kenya turned out incredible, best bean I have ever tasted so far.. The Peaberry is very bitter tasting or stale tasting. I roasted a medium to dark on both, in a popcorn popper. The taste I get only comes when I swallow when on my tongue it taste fine. Is this what I should expect from a peaberry or did I get some bad beans? Any suggestions?

thanks, scott

I cant speak for your varietal of Peaberry, but my experience with Kona Peaberry is that it is a sweet delicate taste. I personally roasted several hundred pounds of Peaberry in a couple different Sivetz fluid bed air roasters. Magnificent. My favourite roast is medium and Madame Pele. The Pele roast is just shy of second crack.

I have a sample size roaster I use at home and it provides consistently good roasts. I have not ever used the popcorn air-roaster. Peaberry is a widely coveted bean. I cant imagine it to ever have desirable characteristics.
