Hi,

With my La Pavoni Europiccola (pressure gauge retrofitted), made 2010, I am able
to create a good drinkable espresso with the single filter ... but I have to put
a LOT of force on the lever (I put my shoulder on it to push it down)...
Additonally it is real difficult to press 7g espresso powder into the single filter.

Before I will start to waste to much coffee with senseless experiments:
Is it possible to create a single espresso (7g coffee) with the double filter (and
less force to pull down the lever)?

How often/long do you let hot water pour through the portafilter / brew head
before pulling the first shot after switching on the La Pavoni and heat it up?

At which pressure does the pressostat trigger and switch of heating?

Thank you very much in advance for any help!

Best regards,
mcc

It is not uncommon for there to be a needed change in grind between single and double baskets. Also, are you sure you are using exactly 7 grams? A gram scale that can weigh in tenths of a gram is highly recommended. They are relatively inexpensive on eBay and the difference between 7 grams and 6.8 grams can make a difference.

Hi Randy,

thank you for your reply ! :)

Yes, I am using a scale (it can weigh in 100th of a gram... ;) ) so I am relatively sure to use the same amount of coffee with both baskets. In what direction do I have the grind, when I switch from single to double baskets?
More coarse...? Finer?
I am using a Porlex manual grinder...

Best regards/espressi!
