I am having trouble picturing a 5 gallon Hario kettle! But in all seriousness do you think you can get an even extraction from this pour over? Here is a link to the SCAA standards for brewing coffee.

I just dont know. I would "think", if the proper ratio was had, why not? You'd probably use 1/2 gallon just to get it to bloom, lol.

I'll try it soon, and document it...just dont hold it against me if it goes tits up!

5 gallon is 41.7 pounds which means 8.34 pound/per gallon. so 41.7 divided by 16 is 2.6 pounds of coffee ground! however, since you have to use boiling point hot water, this calculation changes a bit. At a boiling point, a gallon of water weights 8 pounds. so 8 x 5 gallon = 40 pounds. divided by 16 is 2.5 pounds of ground coffee. But I wonder what kind of filter you will be using. I do not think that normal paper filter with normal thickness might not be able to take the weight.

You could probably get some type of cotton fabric for the filter... and use a garden watering can for the kettle... ha. brainstorming.
