    THE BEST water for making your coffee?

    someone said that your coffee is as good as the water you use.
    well... there is some validity to that.

    for me, I just use our home filtered water dispenser, nothing fancy, but it does what it does pretty well.
    perhaps I am just too cheap to buy some expensive coffee water for my V60, Chemex or even when I do my cupping at home, occasionally.

    so, can someone tell us what is the ideal & best water for making coffee?

    Zero water, which means nothing but water.

    I bet water may be too hard in your area. Ever tested it?

    yes, everyday.
    In Guatemala "drinking water" comes in a bottle, exactly same as Long Beach, CA where my family lives.
    But with different brand name : "villavicencio" and "aguapura" are the brand names.

    About your "ever tested it"? part, my wife said that she can tell between "soft" and "hard" water from washing her hair...

    but in my case, I can never tell... why? Completely bald :+)
    so, the bottom line, I wouldn't know....

    Depends on water source, even same brand could be different in different countries.

    If you see lots of sandstone around, more than likely water is really hard. The water heater inside coffee machines will get clogged up very fast. Definitely bad for humans too.

    I am in swamp water land so for me its bottles water only everything else just taste horrible and the tap water taste like chemicals. I find any bottled water is about the same I tried spring water versus the regular stuff and I cant taste the difference between the two. I have yet to try some ph water in my coffee so that will be next!

    almost all coffee shops use "filtered coffee water" and can not use tap water due to chlorine smell which will greatly affect the taste of coffee.

    The best water for coffee is typically an RO water that has been remineralized. People have various 'recipes' for coffee water that vary a bit but all share similar thoughts on what minerals need to go into the water.

    Exactly! Having stewed about this for a long time and having read volumes on the subject, from the anecdotal to the scientific, I have come to same conclusion as Musicphan. Also, the link provided is interesting, informative, and succinct.

    Trapped in a situation where the available tap water was atrocious (TDS 1000 ppm), I recently tried Third Wave Water minerals added to distilled water purchased from the grocery store. By comparison, the Third Wave Water was wonderful. I am going to try it again at home, where I have reasonably good tap water (TDS 120 ppm) and filter it through a Berkey filter. Tasting the Third Wave Water against what I am used to should be a more valid comparison.

    If anyone has experience with remineralizing RO water or distilled water, I would be interested in your experience and opinions.
