Long time ago, I bought a burr manual grinder (as the photo # 2), so I will be comparing it with the manual grinder which I will receive tomorrow.

BTW, since I bought my old manual grinder, my wife used it just couple of times and stop using because it was "too much of work and hassle" (according to her insightful remark?!).

so, i bought an automatic manual grinder (photo #1) few month ago which my wife gives 10 out of 10.
if you ask me, I would give about 8 out of 10 because it is very noisy. second, the accuracy of ground size isn't what I expected it to be.
however, for the money $42.00, it is probably one of the best, quality vs price ratio.

I got the MyCoffeeAura manual conical burr coffee grinder this morning.
Again, I only paid $0.16 for this (with 99% discount that Rory offered to all of us), so whether this is a winner or total failure, I guess that it would not much matter to me.

anyway, i took some time to check this one out.
it will be few postings and many photos, so keep on reading.

Photo #1 : I am using JumpinJakJava (Colombia Geisha that I bought from him just a week ago) for this grinder.
#2 : this is the most important part of the grinder. THE GRINDER! (I will post it in more detail later on)
#3 : these are what are included in the box. If you ask me how I rate the quality of the unit, I will probably give 3 out of 10 rating. It looks cheap, feels cheap and the construction of the grinder does not give me 100% confidence. (Sorry Rory, but I have to be honest about this kind of things....)
    #4 : the Owner's manual.

    here are some more photos.
this grinder holds about 26 grams (#1) of coffee.
I am using JumpinJakJava Colombian Geisha for this testing (#2 photo)
I load them into the container and started to grind....... honestly, it wasn't difficult to grind, but it took 1 min 20 seconds to grind them 100%. (again, it wasn't hard to grind, but it just took too long to grind, P.Rose. )
    #4 is the ground outcome.

in my next posting, I will be comparing this ground with my other machine (Cuisinart DMB - 8 ) ground. Basically, i want to compare the quality (even sizes) of grounds.

    here are the comparisons.
photo #1 & #3 : the left darker is from MyCoffeeAura and the right is from my own Cuisinart automatic grinder. If you can enlarge the #1 photo, you will see that darker ground is not as even as the lighter one.

photo # 3 and #4 are the darker grounds by MyCoffeeAura. Bit tough to tell by these photos, but these are best I could do. (however, If I had KRUVE SHIFTER, i probably would have done this way more scientifically and more accurately :+)

photo #2 is the lighter ground from my Cuisinart.

so, with the MyCoffeeAura ground, I made a pour over.
I know that Bob always provide me with way above average coffee, but it might be due to uneven grounds...
I can taste slight sourness and bitterness in the cup.

I will try to do this again with my other grinder and re-evaluate.
In my personal opinion, it does not grind evenly which will affect the taste of the coffee.

These are close up photos of the blades.
they are Ceramic. I do not know much about ceramic blades for burr grinders. So, I can not remark on this.
DOES ANYONE HAS SOME COMMENTS ABOUT CERAMIC BLADES?????

However, if you ask me about this grinder, honestly, I would not pay $15.00 for it. there are better ones, faster ones, better construction ones around with similar price range. It just feels cheap... takes too long to grind, uneven grounds....etc

well, I could return the unit (since I am a prime member) to get my money back, but it would be more hassle to return.
By the way, I just re-checked my Amazon invoice to see exactly how much I paid. I paid $0.16 for this unit.
I guess it is well worth for $0.16, however, I would not use it for many reasons that I already have mentioned.

my final verdict : I give 5 out of 10 rating. I can not recommend this one at full price.

PS : Rory, I am sorry for bad review, however, hopefully you can modify and make it better for the future. Also, I thank you for giving opportunity to get it at almost zero cost and be able to check and review your grinder. Sorry and thank you Rory.

No problem with ceramic burrs (not blades). On commercial grinders you will mostly see metal burrs for higher volume/durability but i do not think it is related to the grind quality. I own many grinders and for example my Baratza Forte AP use ceramic burrs and is as good as most of my others commercial grinders (Atom, E37S, K30), only my Compak R100 is in an other league. So it is perfectly fine and frequent to see mid price grinder using ceramic burrs.
