Hey There!

I came across an article about the Ugly Roaster. I am interested in starting to roast my own coffee at home, while leaving my self the chance to turn this into a side business. (Currently I am a student)

Any roasters from Florida/The United States that could evaluate my plan to build a roaster? Point me in the right direction to review the regulations?

Hello Chuckgreenman,

Welcome to the Coffee Forums website.

When I read your post, I wondered why you would want to build your own roaster when there are so many decent home roasters available to buy.

I went to a Uglyroast web site, and saw that they guy gave up trying to build a roaster, and he decided to buy a Gene Cafe instead.
The Uglyroast 2: Now 40% Less Ugly!

I hope you figure it all out and eventually get to roast some coffee - no matter how you end up doing it.

I'm in Jacksonville, not sure if that helps. Basic machine shop skills; working with metal would be a big plus. Same goes for welding, maybe spot welding would work. If you have electrical skills a fluid bed roaster might be easier to build.
