I dug up this old thread . . . I hope today, July 4th, America's Independence Day, is a good one for all.

I guess I should have explained better. I thought you were just wondering why people tell each other to have a safe 4th of July. It seems that this holiday has lost some of its real meaning for many people here in the United States. Instead, for some people, it's become a day of excessive recklessness.

Here is some information I should have added to my original response to your question:

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States.

    I hope this helps.

Independence day is one of the most important part of American tradition. We can't never forget where this country come from and if you remember the past, that will pave our path to the future.
I hope we remember this day and further our love of our own country. The preservation of our freedom and real meaning of our founding fathers idea of America should never die.

    God Bless America!!!!!!!

Another year has gone by, and again, I'm digging up this old thread.

For those of us who celebrate America's Independence Day, I hope you are all having a great 4th of July.

    Thanks Rose.

For years, I've been trying to make Christmas and Easter more meaningful. But in recent years I've been trying to make that spill over into some other holidays, such as Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day; even though I did some righteous face-stuffing today, I need to tell myself that it's more than just a day to picnic and BBQ, that there is a great deal of significance and history behind these days.

I am so glad and grateful to have been born when and where I was!
