Yes - I know the title is a little odd - but sip your coffee and enjoy...
Human Body Parts Talking to Each Other
in the Refrigerator
(First published in Other Voices Literary Magazine,
online edition)
The earth got lost and couldn't find its orbit around the sun, then your refrigerator opened its huge gigantic mouth and began licking the moon, the traffic driving by became thousands of restless syllables trying to bash out of your head, then your building jumped on a molecule and floated away to one of your memories, and nobody could find the ground because the earth was lost inside a poem so everybody floated away into the ocean of black coffee that surrounded the earth and drowned and the poem whirled out of control of the Poet and ate a huge hole through the sky and all the suns poured transvestites all over the earth and then everything began floating out of your house and the poem became a car crash

Here is something I did today inside my shop.
Had some Tanzanian Peaberry that needed to go. I didn't want to drink the Tanzanian straight.
So I took an equal amount of Tanzanian and Colombian Supremo 17/18, both were roasted to 2nd Crack/ Full City.
Brew in a Drip Pot. No Sugar, etc. Just plain old black coffee.
I did change the grind to "Cone" setting.
Don't know what to call it, just good coffee.

I can't give you much advice on what size of press pot to choose. I was told that you can brew half a pot just as well as a full pot, so that's what I do. I bought a 32 oz.
You shouldn't let your coffee sit in your press pot once it's done brewing. Press it down and pour it out. If you aren't going to drink it right away, put it in a thermos of some kind. However, be warned: the press pot leaves fines in the coffee, and even that small amount will still alter the taste sitting in a thermos for a long time. I only make enough for what I can drink at that time. If I want coffee later, I'll brew it again.
Seeing as a French press is a bit of a hassle to clean up, you may want to invest a few dollars in an AeroPress. It's much faster for both brewing and cleaning, and the coffee is very good. You can conveniently make black coffee, lattes, and iced coffee with it. It doesn't feel like so much of a chore brewing twice as the French press does. I only use the French press when brewing for larger groups.

Post Subject: Christmas Coffee Recipe
Its that time again, so heres a seasonal coffee to try when the fires lit and you're sitting down after a huge christmas dinner:
The best ever coffee, and this is not to be over-done, just once a year around xmas, get the following:
pour in some french brandy, or better expensive cognac, not too much just a few ml.
add hot black coffee of your choice straight from the pot
now squirt on the top a nice layer of Courvoisier squirty cream (available usually only seasonally) and let it reduce from a squirty look to a nice even throth.
let it cool to an acceptable heat and drink away.
I promise you it is the best coffee you will ever drink.
I make it a ritual for every christmas, for my whole family. Only problem I have is that everyone comes back for thirds!!! And dont overdo the cognac, feel free to go mad witht he cream though!

Post Subject: Re: how to make white coffee?
While I was at a hotel in Serbia a couple years ago I had a drink called white coffee, at least that is what the menu translated it as. It was really a light cream colour, just off white. However it was served warm with a heavier coffee flavour then if it was coffee just heavily diluted. There must also have been a good deal of sweetener added as well. Any ideas on this. I've tried to reproduce it but all I've ever come up with is heavily diluted coffee or just dark coffee with some cream.
As I know, it was an old word for 80s of last centary. At that time, when you ordered a coffee, they give you a cup of coffee, called black coffee, together with suger without milk. If you want some milk in your coffee, you have to order a white coffee, which was make of drip coffee with milk mixed together.
But now, it is not used any more, at least as I understand.

At work Im in charge of the coffee, dont have to be but I've been doin it for a long time.
As far as I can remember it has been 10 cents a cup.Since I'v been doin for about 10-12 years, its still 10 cents.Up untill this past summer I only bought coffee and if others wanted cream and sugar, they brought it.
Now I buy the cream and sugar also and still charge 10 cents a cup(which is about 1 1/2 - 2 cup on pot) and coffe keeps goin up.
I took up $11 from the last can,and we go through 4 lbs. of sugar and a can of creamer per can of coffee.$6.29+$2.50+$1.65+tax=$10.86.
Plus my gas and time to go get the stuff, waiting in line.I need more money to compensate for the trouble.
I thought of 10 cents for black coffee, add 5 cents each for cream and sugar. But a few say"Thats Too Much".I say "go to Star Bucks and see what they charge"
How would some of you charge?

The social ladder kindof applies I guess, but at the same time it really does depend on preference of taste. Regular working folk ussually just get a cup of drip coffee, while more corporate appearing customers order the 2 page long orders. At the same time though personally I just outgrew the syrup trend, I just go with a cup of black coffee, a doppio espresso, or if I'm in certain moods a double 8oz dry capaccino.
Many countries have coffee heavily infused into their cultures, not just america. Most of Europe (especially central) is widely known to have cafe's all over, and business is always profitable with a good product. In Italy it's common to sit and talk with someone for hours over a cup of coffee or two. Compared to America I'd say the biggest difference is lifestyle, here you'll see people getting the biggest possible cup in as little time as possible.
Hope that helped, that's just my take on some of it.

Hello, very informative post natachouille.
I've lived in Southern California and drank coffee all of my life. As a young kid I would occasionally drink my parent's coffee. I remember it typically being brewed in any standard brewer with store bought canisters of grinds. It tasted sweet like candy because my mother would add tons of cream and sugar, and I drank it watching the Johnny Carson show.
As I grew up, I began to drink lots more coffee, and started to enjoy dark black coffee from some cafes that knew what they where brewing.
Now my favorite coffee is brewed at home in a french press. I will still go out to starbucks from time to time, but tend to get in small arguments with the barista's over getting the exact drink I want to order.

Please help before I strangle my local barristas....
Im sure my local barristas are truely nice people but not one of them seems to know anything about drip coffee other than whats printed in their own companies brochure. Im looking for the best cup of coffee and I know thats something rather unique to each individuals tastes. Please bear with me as I have an idea that might help you understand my definitions..
Please close your eyes and imagine youve been driving all night with your grandparents on an old two lane country road. Its 5am and through the rain you see the lights on in an old local diner. You pullover and go inside needing to stretch and get a bit to eat. As you walk through the door the smell of fresh coffee starts to caffinate you. The waitress brings you a cup without needing to be asked and you take a sip. Its hot and smooth, and doesnt need to be adulterated with cream or sugar. Your grandfather, whose drink of choice for the last 60 some years has been black coffee states this is probably the best coffee hes ever had.
Ok, if you understood any of that...
1. What kind of coffee are you drinking?
2. What would you look for in order to order than in your local coffee house?
3. What would you look for to make that coffee at home?
Everytime it seems I go to starbucks or \"insert your local coffee house name\" I come away with a large cup of hot black liquid dirt. This is not what I want. I want a sensuous experience with my coffee, one that uses all my senses... Any thoughts?
Thanks

What i liked the most about it is that some people i think it was you who tried to talk bad about gano because of personal experience... correct me if im wrong, and i think there was some kind of doctor who knew doctors that drink and distribute this product that say it is good and the mushroom does what you said it didnt do for you or your friend. (the whole memory loss and stuff) that the mushroom supports the brain, thats what the doctor guy said "truth" and anyways what do you do as a job? are you a doctor too?, as for "curing all things" did you ever stop to think that maybe thats what is ok for the people in malaysia, as in . of course the U.S. doesnt want a product saying that it cures anything, so Gano Excel did change their act to where it is ok for all that food administration people. Whatever thats not the point. what it supposedly doesnt do for you it can do for other people. my uncle is a diabetic and he drinks the black coffee and he is doing just fine. even better. but that is just MY personal experience. let other people try it dont cram crap into their head and if the coffee grows your chick friend a beard than thats when i think you should down talk gano. other than that its great tasting it doesnt grow any chick beards as a matter of fact there is a skin care line which ive been wanting to try for sooo long. It depends on how you take your coffee.
Black coffee, at about 10 calories per cup, isn't going to affect your weight.
Black coffee with sugar can be 35 calories (1 tsp sugar) or more (about 25 calories per tsp for sugar). This is going to accumulate if you drink a lot of coffee throughout the day.
Coffee with cream and sugar can be high in calories as well as fat. 18% coffee cream has 30 calories and 3.0g fat per tbsp. On top of sugar, that's enough calories and fat to consider the cup o' joe a meal on its own, which is a frightening thought when you have 2 or 3 cups before, during and sometimes after breakfast.

1. Health reasons - Adding cream essentially eliminates the antioxidant benefits of black coffee (may have something to do with the proteins in the milk binding to the antioxidants).
2. Give them good black coffee. A few of my friends used to load their coffee with milk and sugar until I introduced them to the brand "gimme coffee." From my experiences, good coffee should not require milk or sugar to cover up imperfections characteristic of bad coffee (bitterness, etc.).
Nonetheless, some people still do prefer to sweeten up good coffee due to personal preferences or routine. If you have added cream and sugar to your coffee throughout your entire life, I assume it will be difficult to change.

Ok...where do I begin...we recently purchased a coffee house in my hometown that I was a regular at for over 10 years. I have known all of the previous owners, and in my head I have listed all of the mistakes I thought they had made...let me tell you, when you are there and on the other side of the bar, it is a completely different world. Try to follow me because I may bounce around a little here. I wanted this shop for myself and I ended up letting my stepmother purchase it. That has been a good thing. She knows how to run a business and I know the people and the product. We use only the best--meaning Panache coffee and espresso, which you can get from Coffee Bean International (CBI). IT IS THE BEST. Trust me on that. We also only use Xanadu teas which can also be purchased from CBI. The second previous owner of our shop had a cart like you speak of, set up in a community college. It was nothing but a hassel and he lost a great deal of money in it. It was an exceptional cart--loaded with everything imaginable. He is also still attempting to sell it. You can contact me if you are interested and I will get you in touch with him. My advice to you is this--research everything you think about doing. Coffee is a cash business and you will lose money if you do not closely monitor your cart(s). $1 for a drink is way too low. We charge at minimum $2 for each of our drinks. Black coffee is as follows: SM $1 MD $1.50 and LG $2.00 Bottomless Cups range from $3.50-$5.00. Our espresso drinks are $2.50+. The mark up is there and you can make money, but you will have to work it. We do not have a drive through at our location. Our customers come inside because they enjoy the atmosphere and they enjoy the social aspect. We are not a Star***ks. We are personal. We want to know our customers and that keeps them coming back. I bake homemade desserts and pastries and they love them! The thing is that every coffee business is becoming commercial. Customers enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and knowing their Baristas. You can have all of the best of everything and still not have the customers. You can make money but it takes a great deal of effort, training, learning, and time. And just when you think you have it all down, you realize you knew very little.
I hope this helps. Please contact me if you need anything else. Best of luck to you!

Post Subject: old coffee, good bad or indifferent?
Hi,
I have a similar question to the one posted by 'viktorhugo'.
My girlfriend makes coffe from fresh-ground beans and puts the excess (black) coffee into a Pyrex pot. She reheats this for drinking after a couple of days. The coffe in the pot is just left on the kitchen counter, out of the sun.
My question is: Does this coffee 'go off'? Are there buildups of acids or compounds that are not the best for drinking? Does it oxidise? What happens to it?
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Post Subject: Re: Not Mountain Mudd? Are there any good recommendations?
I looked at Mountain Mudd -- decided I'd rather do everything myself, maybe with some consultation. I just moved to Ohio from Washington state and am originally from Montana, so coffee is not new to me, but it seems like a semi-new concept here.... Good opportunity? Or are people out here not ever going to be esspresso drinkers? Most everyone I've met so far only drinks drip coffee -- most not even with cream or sweetener.
Any advice?
Thanks so much in advance -- this forum is GREAT!!! : )
Bonus for you....
No competition for locations.
If they like black coffee...they will LOVE Americano's. (get great coffee, a great machine, and learn how to use it....and pull great shots!)
I am a big believer in the glass (coffee cup, whatever) being half-full vs. Half-empty!
Good luck!
P.S> you aren't the gal who lived up north of Spokane I spoke to a few months back, are you? I just opened my drive-thru in Kalispell (Somers) Montana.
(I'm a E. Washington Native)
remember....somebody has to be first to open one...if there are Starbucks...You should be fine! (Cause you will make way better coffee than them)
Find a good roaster in the region....talk with them about beans, etc. Be passionate about everything you do int he biz, and the customers will come back again (and again, and again)
Let me know via PM if you have any questions.

I got no results on Google for the phrase 'baiser le cafe noir' so could someone enlighten me please?

Hello, dear experts!
I bought a Delonghi BAR 14 espresso machine (http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-Espresso_M ... full_specs) When making an espresso, I follow the instructions provided but I get only black coffee without any crema on top of it.
As this is a pump machine and as other users report getting good crema with this model, I beleive I do smth wrong.
Could you please give some ideas on possible actions towards a proper espresso with good crema in my case
Thanks!

Posted by redmoose on 2004-12-08 14:10:19
Post Subject:
espresso
/espresso/ (also expresso)
• noun (pl. espressos) strong black coffee made by forcing steam through ground coffee beans.
— ORIGIN from Italian caffè espresso ‘pressed out coffee’.
1945, from It. caffe espresso, from espresso "pressed out," from pp. of esprimere, from L. exprimere "press out" (see express).
Espresso is a strong, flavorful coffee beverage brewed by forcing hot water through finely ground dark-roasted coffee beans. In Italian, espresso means "pressed out" or "express". The term expresso — used often in the United States, even occasionally on menus — is not correct.
Espresso differs greatly from the common drip brewed coffee drink in its thick concentrated consistency, and robust flavor. Due to its potency, straight espresso (espresso served without sweetener or milk, analogous to black coffee) is considered by some to be an acquired taste, and is served in small amounts called shots. Many coffee aficionados order their single or double with a little glass of cold water to clear the palate. Because the espresso reacts quickly with oxygen, it should be consumed right after brewing.
Espresso is often used as the foundation for other drinks, such as lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and many more. A key component in the flavor of espresso is a golden foam composed of oils, proteins, and sugars, called crema which floats on the surface.

Ice Cream works well in coffee shops in Greece. It's a slightly different market there. People expect to be able to go into a coffee shop and order ouzo to chase their cappuccino.
I personally like to pair a good sweet with black coffee so ice cream would probably be a nice offering. I think you’d want to find some upper end ice cream or some more homey style to give it a unique twist.

i don't really see what you are getting at with the article, repoman77. i have previously read that article. how does it relate to the topic, other than it concerns starbucks?
by the way consumer reports ranking mcdonalds over starbucks, is this some kind of joke? seriously who still is left out of the loop of knowing mc'donalds uses starbucks(or seattles best, product of starbucks) coffee? they are the same, the beans come from the same place and are roasted at the same place. i would never trust consumer reports on certain topics such as coffee, food, wine or the like.
i like some of the sbux roasts, i'd much rather go local, being i am fortunate enough to live in a city with so many different local roasters.
bmusse-
I am not trying to single you out, but where are you coming from? My friends who go to McD's have all said the same thing: McD coffee is good, now. I cannot say I've heard anyone compare their coffee to that of Sbux, sorry. Combine that with McD publicizing their breakfast changes, including their coffee, perhaps it behooves you to test the claim yourself, before condemning the validity of the claim. At the very least, their coffee is much improved, enough so that their customers talk about it in places like these.
Regarding Sbux coffees-
I apologize for not distinquishing what I consider different drinks: brewed coffee, which I call coffee, and espresso drinks, which is pretty much any drink using espresso. I will reiterate my previous claim, as everyone, and I mean, everyone I talk to has said the same thing: Sbux coffee is too strong. While they may call a particular roast 'medium,' most of the rest of the coffee world calls the same roast 'dark,' or at best, a 'full city roast.' And their 'dark' roasts, such as their french, or italian, are amongst the darkest coffees available outside an espresso roast. With Sbux, there is no such thing as a 'cinnamon' roast, or a 'light' roast. All of their coffee is roasted much darker than what most of the rest of the coffee world roasts theirs.
Topping that off, they brew their coffee MUCH stronger than any other coffee retailer. You could dispute this, but there wouldn't be much of a basis in fact in your dispute. Amonst those who enjoy coffee, especially simple black coffee, Sbux usually is not a preferred coffee brewer.
Their store experience is another story. All their baristas are trained to their standard. You can go to any Sbux and count on their consistancy. Their business model is ingenious.
But I will say it again- their coffee(brewed coffee) is horrible. And everything about their brewed coffee bucks the traditional standard.

hmm, where to start,
for myself, i enjoy coffee, not from a convential brewer though, if i do drink brewed coffee its from a press. nearly every morning at wich ever cafe i am in i will hear some common questions when others are ordering their brew, "whats your dark, roast?" or even "i'll take a 20oz medium roast today". personally, i don't see ppl being or how the can be too picky when ordering from a conventional brewer or one that uses the paper filter.
i'll have a mistro or olay every now and again.
as far as concern of a paper filtered brew though, personally i don't like anything to do with citrus in my hot drinks, iced coffee different, i love love the african or most african roasts iced or citrus roasts iced.
if they brew their coffee too strong, why not just ask to add some water, seriously?
i am not trying to defend or offend anyone or any company.

Coffee? 100%, I've had maybe a total of five people ever ask.
And the answer has always been "no".
Americano? About 65%-70% take it black.
We don't do standard "drip" coffee, nor have we ever.
Americano only first 18 months. Press coffee brewed fresh by the cup, for another year and a half, and siphon coffee, by the cup for the past four months or so.
It's easier to covert people if:
A) You don't leave any cream or sugar out.
B) You educate them by taste
C) It's not an option.
The LCD will always remain as such, but there are a huge number of people who can be converted by taste; sometimes they just need a little nudge.
I was going on thirty before I had my first eye opening cup of coffee.
And about the same age before I ever had fresh seafood. (wouldn't touch the stuff before)
I'm thirty-nine now. Change came instantly, and I've never looked back.
Most people will do the same given the opportunity.
That's your job. Present the opportunity for them to experience excellence, and give it to them. They will be fiercely loyal.

A few years ago I too made the life changing exploration into black coffee. And I too will never turn back. But I do have to say that not all coffees will taste better black. It really depends on the roast and the temperature at which you''re drinking it. As far as the roast goes, you in uncharted waters if you''ve never had it black before as everyone''s going to have a different experience with it. There are just some roasts I don''t drink because they require cream and sweetener to taste good. Here in New England (not sure about elsewhere) iced coffee is all the rage, everyones drinking it and everyones selling it. Yet a number of the varieties taste awful because they aren''t being served at a temp that''s appropriate. Same coffee served hot is great black, when cold it NEEDS some help from the cows and the cane.
As far as turning people to the dark side goes:
Just getting them to taste it works wonders. I mean for customers as far as I am concerned you have to have cream and sweetener available, SOMEONE is going to want it and you''re just going to lose business without it. For them then, who cares if they are enjoying your stuff inappropriately, ignorance is often quite blissful I hear.
For those who look at you with wide eyes, maybe mouthing \"Oh My God!\" Just look at em and wink. \"Puts hair on your chest\". Often times I find the biggest thing hindering people from going black is the lack of opportunity, or proper motivation. That and fear of becoming an alien.

My statement was directed to straight strong black coffee, especially espresso. I don't need a medical study, I already had the experience...
And when I said acidic, I meant it literally, not in terms of taste. I know that latin coffee's are more acidic/indonesian less and all that... We're not talking body of the coffee here are we?

With Forrest Gump's revelation about black coffee, I need to dive a little deeper into the murky waters of Alien Abduction. Try as I may, I keep sliding deeper and deeper into this whirlpool of green ooze. My head is feeling dizzy. I don't know how long I can hold on...
Forest has stumbled upon something of extreme importance. He mentioned that I drink my coffee black but when i do people look at me as though i were an alien.
To that, Caffe Biscotto replied, Have you considered the remote possibility that you may very well be an alien?
Exactly! The insight to be gained here is that we should be observing a certain tell-tale sign of abducted humans: they drink their coffee black.
This may not be a perfect signal. There may be coffee drinkers (not yet abducted) who prefer their coffee black. But, I think we should suspect anybody from the forum who drinks their coffee sans sugar or cream.
... and don't forget the oolong.

It's quiet. It has become deathly still around the forum. I smell the aroma of fresh coffee brewing. It could be my wife making a fresh pot. It smells really nice, almost sweet. In fact, it's smelling very sweet. Shockingly I notice that it now smells nothing like coffee. Something is wrong here ....
I walk downstairs. Very quiet. Nothing is stirring. I see no one. I enter the kitchen. The smell is dissipating. It's less pronounced all of the sudden, as if it has rapidly been sucked out of the room. I turn the corner ... and can't believe my eyes!
"Henry! what are you doing?" Henry is standing on his two hind legs, holding a cup of steaming BLACK coffee.
"I was a little sleepy and decided to make some coffee. Want some?". All I could do is stand there with my jaw hanging open. What has happened to Henry? What has happened to Mrs. Shark?
And why would my Norwegian Elk Hound Henry be standing in the kitchen with a cup of joe in his paw? Henry (my 12 year old dog) doesn't even have opposable thumbs! Something is not right here!

... crunchy is as crunchy does, so says the Mother of Forrest Gump. By the way, has anybody seen the recent abductee Forrest? He's good, but always runnin'.
I have heard endorphins have the same positive affect on recent alien abductees as oolong tea. It creates a similar chemical reaction inside the body which makes the victim resilient to the bodily invasion.
Of course this theory is ridiculous if you believe the abducted victims are actually clone replacements of their formerly cannibalized hosts. Still, if a clone has the root of its being within its DNA, I believe the possibility exists for a clone to become its former host. There is a chance that with enough oolong tea and endorphins we might still survive this invasion.
But we must stay away from black coffee. What would become of all the cafes across the land, without their coffee? Would they revert to ... cannabis parlors?
I wonder what effect of cannabis would have on the aliens. If nothing else, it might slow them down enough to pour a little oolong into their ears ... Perhaps a plan is developing here, that might turn the tide. We must act before it is too late!!

The aliens communicate between one another's minds by some means other than sensory perception. I had to enter a parallel dimension in order to escape their abduction this time. I had run short of oolong tea (darjeeling does not work), and was in the process of being consumed.
Only with quick thinking and use of my handy temporal evanesculator on my belt pack was I able to escape their clutches and flesh extractors.

Topher might have been the innocent carrier of these masked little fuzzballs. Remember his Nike's? The green ooze? It makes sense to me. On my assignment I discovered that the green ooze has disappeared. No sign of the supposed colonies. Maybe Topher is not an alien after all!
I don't know what to think! Is it possible that the Ibots are the real controllers of this abduction?
Is it possible that this whole world wide threat of coffee roasting, popcorn popping, oolong pouring, black coffee drinking, vegetarian and flesh consuming, cloning, coffee oozing out every pore, Scary Cannibal Alien Argonaut Ibots is merely a smoke-screen for the proliferation of these silly little pals? Yes Quink you're correct it is dropped before the first crack. Since it is under roasted is does have a different taste. In fact it can be quite bitter since it is under roasted. Most that drink it in my neck of the woods drown it with extra, extra flavored syrups as to hide the taste. They mainly want that jolt or buzz it creates. Not to mention the fact that it totally reeks havoc on grinders because the beans are so hard. A lot of roasters will not produce this coffee. But I guess if customers really like it, roasters will continue to produce it. As for a comparison with black coffee, I prefer a coffee that has been roasted as it is intended to be.

Please do not inflict your caffine ridden child on the rest of us no matter what you decide. Wired children are more than annoying. I refused to serve anyone under the age of 13 at my shop without their parent being there to control them. Children's brains do not work the same as adults and any drug will have a vastly different effect on them. As to the pregnancy stuff 3 cups is the limit and you should avoid it all together if you are breastfeeding(though they, the health department, say 3 is the limit there as well).
I have always felt that if a child does not have the palate for black coffee then they are not ready for it in any form. Kids will drink anyting with sugar in it and will swill down a vanilla latte just as fast as they will chocolate milk.

Espresso drinks I prefer Mocha's, Latte's or Americano, of course these have milk but no sugar.

The best ever coffee, and this is not to be over-done, just once a year around xmas, get the following:
pour in some french brandy, or better expensive cognac, not too much just a few mi
add hot black coffee of your choice straight from the pot
now squirt on the top a nice layer of Courvoisier squirty cream (available usually only seasonally) and let it reduce from a squirty look to a nice even throth.
let it cool to an acceptable heat and drink away.
I promise you it is the best coffee you will ever drink.
I make it a ritual for every christmas, for my whole family. Only problem I have is that everyone comes back for thirds!!!

Post Subject: Gano Excel -- NOT a fraud
Gano Excel a fraud? I think not. I am a health practitioner AND a Gano Excel distributor. As of today, I now have 3 medical doctors on my Gano Excel team (one a cardiologist, one a orthopedic surgeon, and the other is an anti-aging specialist), each of them has researched and tested the coffees as well as the capsules. The ganoderma capsules contain PURE ganoderma lucidum (Reishi). The coffee, tea and cocoa contain 10% (NOT 2%). Yes, there is sugar in some of our products. We also have products that are sugar-free. The coffee content is .04 megs. I wouldn't call that "loaded with caffeine." You need to check your facts.
As for ONE friend who was diabetic who tried the coffee -- Gano Excel as a Company, as well its distributors, recommend that diabetics stick with the black coffee, tea or the capsules and avoid the beverages with sugar. What did your friend drink? Anyway, how can you make a fair judgement based on one person's experience? As for the person who posted earlier that they "lost their memory," ganoderma lucidum (the active component in the coffee) has over 40,000 pages of 3rd party clinical studies on www.pubmed.com, from universities and clinical laboratories all over the world including the prestigious UCLA School of Medicine. Check it out for yourself. Many of these studies show evidence that the mushroom SUPPORTS brain function AND blood sugars. Thye company is very careful to make NO medical claims -- the clinical studies speak for themselves. It's interesting how people will develop a bias or fear about things they do not understand.

I Don't think coffee will stunt your growth. I'm 17 and only 5'4, but i only started drinking coffee about 3 weeks ago. I've always been a cappacino guy, but moved to black coffee due to cappaccino being too sweet for my taste now, had too much of it. I can't believe some of you drink up to 30 cups a day, the most i'll have is 2 cups a day. Usually i'll just have 1 cup in the morning, and that's all i need.

The SBS is supposed to allow you to lower water pressure by way of a bypass valve, that should allow you to fine tune extraction time. How would you rate this feature?
This works very well. I just tested 4 Espresso shots (12g and 1.5 OZs water) from full counterclockwise (9pm on a clock face) to Full Clockwise (3pm on a clock face):
Full Counterclockwise (9pm) - 8 seconds (suggested "Strong black coffee")
MIDWAY (Noon) -------------- 15 seconds (suggested "Espresso")
1 PM ---------------------------- 25 seconds (My setting for Espresso)
Full Clockwise (3pm) -------- 48 seconds (suggested "Rich Espresso" or Rissetto)

Howdy.
I love coffee, so I searched for forum consisting of pure coffee discussion(and also cause I got sick of the Zombie forum, boring). So yeah, I love coffee. I drink tons of black coffee right before I go work out my huge muscles. Caffine coursing through my veins fuels my desire to rip my body to perfection. It gives me that power I need to put up that extra ten pounds and set a new record for my weight class, ohh yeahh! Even when I'm on the treadmill, I down shots of expresso, ignoring the pain in my legs as I push myself onward to a super low body-fat percentage. When I walk into the gym everyone knows I'm a caffine filled powerhouse of power!

Post Subject: Bernie from Bay Area
Hey all,
I discovered Coffee Forums when researching on espresso machines. Great to see like-minded individuals (aka coffee addicts) here, I feel like I belong already!
Anyway, my name is Bernie, from Bay Area California, moved here from Singapore. I was introduced to coffee at a young age. I grew up drinking coffee. My Dad would wake up every morning to brew coffee from a 12-cup coffee maker and I always start my day with a cup. Drinking coffee makes me think of home, which is nice.
Caffeine does NOTHING for me in terms of keeping awake, and I'm sure all you coffee drinkers would agree. I remember the time when I had to study for a test the next day - downed FOUR cups of black coffee, and dozed off right after!
I currently have a regular 12-cup Mr. Coffee coffeemaker (I'm poor), the cool feature I like about it is the delayed brew - I prepare the grinds and water the night before, and the next morning, voila! I wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
I like the bold taste of the asian blends, like sumatran, malaysian, but any coffee is ok for me. I'm not choosy.
Well, that's more introduction than you'd like hear, so I'll stop for now.
