I''m now using a 4 cup mr. coffee and it''s \"ok\" but I think I can do a bit better. I read some of the posts here and thinking maybe the krups 4 cup coffee machine would be a good one.??
What differences will I see between the mr. coffee and the krups?
There are only two of us in the house - so we don''t need anymore than a 4 cup machine.

I''m new to this site, and am having a lot of fun going through it. I have a question, as I would like to have coffee dispensed fresh everytime when I want, instead of pouring from the coffee jug:

What do you think is the best automatic coffee machine on the market that makes coffee poured directly into your cup, with only a few button clicks, and requires a minumum of cleaning/maintenance? I imagine prices would be in the $500-$1500 range, or even more.

Will someone pls clarify if this Filter Drip machine e.g. http://www.gardfoods.com/coffee/coffee.prepare.htm is a.k.a. a Drip machine. It's strange because in Singapore, it is known as a percolator but it seems there is another machine named percolator in the same site. I assume that is correct.

My manager recentley purchased a fetco commericial coffee machine. he hates to have to measure out exactley 5 oz everytime he brews. He love starbucks Sumatra coffee and is looking for someone who he can purchase premeasured 5 oz silver packets of sumatra coffee. My wife and I are in the market for a new coffee machine for home use. I am looking for an under-cabinet mount machine that will accept a water line so there is no need to fill it each day. A built-in grinder is not necessary. Must have a timer.

I found the Brewmatic Electronic BICA, but the price is higher than I'd like to dish out at this time.

I would appreciate any suggestions you experts may have on such a coffee maker.

Hi Guys,

I have just taken charge of the office coffee machine a Gaggia Synchrony Compact and I understand that the coffee dose and grind settings have been changed by a number of people and although I like coffee I am not sure on the optimum coffee settings.

I understand from one of my colleagues that the coffee grinds are an important indication of the settings of the machine, so here they are.

The coffee grinds seem to retain their cake like shape and the size of the grinds are around 1 milimetre they break apart quite easily but they are a little wet. Can anyone help me with this.

The coffee tastes ok to me although it is a little strong but I am no expert.

It is possibly the most beautiful cart I have found, but because of relocating I have to part with it, so take care of my baby! It is a portable, rolling, stainless steel coffee cart. This cart is in excellent condition and very easy to maneuver. Used gently for only 6 weeks, like new. Efficient design allows for easy portability, when closing business or for security. Includes pop-out sink with hot and cold water, mini refrigerator, storage unit with cash-register drawer that locks, and 7 outlets. The outlet for Hot Water System will switch to off/on depending on when the Coffee Machine is using power.
Model# EMU 001US, 240 volt, 30amps, frequency 50Hz, and a fuse for a water pump, and water pump has 12v, also has 12 AC lights.

can anyone tell me what has happened to my gaggia coffee machine? the steam nozzle has turned to a 45 degree angle facing backwards. it normally faces downwards, and last time i used it, it functioned perfectly. i washed the plastic steamer things, pushed them back in place on the end of the nozzle as usual, and didn't touch it again - until i noticed a few days later the turn of the nozzle. no-one else in the house uses the machine which is on the bench in the kitchen - i feel as if i am in the twilight zone:
no matter which way you look at it, it cannot be turned back to the proper place, since the metal tube is very sturdy. it doesn't come out of its place - it came attached when i bought it new.
i can't steam any milk with it facing backwards like that, but worse, i can't understand how this came to be.
can anyone please please tell me if this has happened to their machine or whether they know what is going on? i'd like to fix it of course, but can't see how. for now - i just wanna understand

Hey guys... Am hoping this is a suitable topic for this forum, would love some advice on this.

My parents just recently bought themselves an automatic coffee machine for our small business, and whilst they are very happy with the coffee quality, and the texture of the milk, they are very disappointed with the temperature of the milk. They bought a Jura Z5 (2nd gen).

We tested the machine at the store, and the coffees (including those with milk, latte etc) were hot - getting home we just could not get them hot enough. We have tried everything - preheating the cups, checking all of the various places for blockages etc (rang customer service, and they told me what to check). Finally, I bought some styrofoam cups (as this is what we tested the coffee in at the store), and tried making a latte - the difference is amazing, nice and hot.

So I am now thinking that perhaps the solution is to buy some new mugs and consider it an expensive of the machine. I''m wondering if anyone has any suggestions of thermal mugs that look nice - we''re not after big plastic travel mugs, we want to be able to serve this to clients. We''re in Australia, so if anyone knows of places here, that would be great, but even just suggestions of brands to search for/specific names of suitable mugs etc would be great.

PS I should point out that they bought a different machine last week (a D''Longhi sp?) and returned it for the same problem, making me think that the cups may be the problem.

:!: :-) Firstly thanks for taking some time reading my post and offering this help. I was hoping that you could answer some questions as regards the technical aspect of the machine. Here they are;

With regards Automatic Machines
1-How is the waste coffee grounds taken out of the group head between each shot?
2How is the coffee grounds gotten from the grinder to the group head in the first place?
3-How far should/does the coffee travel once it hits the coffee grounds in the automatic machines?
4-How much space is needed for the drip tray, and underneath for drain off?
5-Can a commercial machine use a thermo-block instead of a boiler to heat the water?
-will this have an influence on the size or other areas of the machine if it is?
6-Is it possible to have the motor and the pump placed on the front side of the boiler (or is this already the case with automatic machines)?
7-Is there much areas going to waste in modern machines (space)?
8-Is there any pipe work that has to stay the same, i.e. the way it leaves the pump on modern machines is the only way? What I mean is if I were to place the boiler in an upright position in the machine can I change the way the pipes enter the machine, can I have them at the two ends, and have none on the sides.
9-How exactly is the group heads (not sure if this is what they are called in automatic machines) working on these machines, what way is it layed out?
10- In your opinion is there any point trying to change the internal components of a coffee machine, by redesigning it should I only concentrate on styling its, as in my opinion, the Italians have pretty much perfected inside?

Hi,

Im trying to decide what coffee machine to get....

I started with with instant, then went to using fresh beans and a french press, then i''ve bought a filter coffee machine (which is what im using now).

I''ve found that I can get just as nice a cup of coffee out of a filter machine than the french press...(probably due to inexperience).

I came inches away from buying the ''Gaggia Baby Twin'' yesterday then pulled out at the last minute.

Can anybody help me to decide whether an espresso machine is right for me?

For starters, I dont really enjoy espresso shots. I would be using the machine mainly for cappucinos for my wife, and macciattas for me (spelling?) Basically a double shot with a bit of milk.

How would a double shot from the espresso machine with a bit of milk compare to a filter coffee with a bit of milk?? :shock:

Hi,
I have several questions, I am seeking help with. A friend of mine has ask me to look at her LaCimbali M2 coffee machine. I normally work on CNC machine tools for a living, so I feel I have the ability, but lack the knowledge. The machine has stopped grinding on one side, error code 011.

Questions:
1) If it turns out to be something other than a jam, can I buy parts, (motor, encoder) and if so where?
2) Is there a Tech Support number for this machine, someone to talk me through the trouble shooting?
3) Will I need a technician’s card to do anything to this machine?
4) Should I even attempt this repair, with my lack of knowledge?

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, and any help would be appreciated.
Did I mention she owns a small shop, and has no money?

I've used these machines and they don't do what you're describing, so it's abnormal. If you bought the machine from a coffee machine vendor try contacting them for advice and a repair if needed. If you didn't buy from a vendor, try contracting Aroma Cafe Culture at www.aromacc.com. They sell and service these machines.

While developing a new coffee machine I was wondering whether the strenght of the coffee can be controlable influenced by changing the grindsize and grindtime. (using a burr-grinder).

Than it would be possible, while using the same amount of coffee beans, grinding coarse for weak coffee, grind medium for medium strength and fine grindsize for darker coffee.

Does this make any sence? What is your opinion on this matter?

Hi, I'm looking for a coffee machine that has a thermal carafe, programmable options, preferably cone drip, and makes excellent coffee.

I have a Starbucks Barista Solo, but I question the quality and would like to have a machine that makes more than 2 cups of coffee to have on weekends.

Do you think purchasing a 12 cup coffee machine will weaken the taste even if I do make only 4 cups of coffee.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have found out how to change the vend price. I'll note it here so that if anybody else it searching they can hopefully find it.

How to change the vend price on a Flavia S300 coffee machine :-

1. Make the sure the free vend switch is set to PAY.
2. Turn the power off and open the door
3. Hold Down then Coffee Button
4. Turn on the power
5. After a few seconds you can let go of the Coffee Button.

The machine is now in a mode where it shows the number of drinks vended split by chargeable and free. You can press the Tea button to move to the next display page.

6. Use the Tea button to move to the point where it shows the number of free drinks vended.
7. Turn the switch from PAY to FREE
8. Press the Tea button.

The Machine is now in a state where it shows the amount of cash received (not tokens), (Press Tea to move from the title to the actual amount)

9. Press Tea again and it will move the machine into change price mode, (Press it a second time to see the current price).
10. Use the Coffee and Choco buttons to change the price.
11. Switch from FREE to PAY
12. Close the door

Hope that helps somebody else.

Last week I was down in the big city of Boston and stopping in a shopping mall. Framingham or Natick. One of those places west of Boston proper. In the mall there was a food court and in it was a Gloria Jean's and a McDonalds.

I found in interesting that many of the people sitting at tables drinking coffee had the Newman's Own from Mickey D's and none of the food. It was stunning to imagine that some people were treating McDonalds as a coffee bar when there was a real coffee bar in the food court.

The one that scares me is Coca Cola's launch of Far Coast and Chaqwa. Stupid names, but they have their sights on grabbing a share of the coffee market. They have a new coffee machine and their goal is to make it as ubiquitous as the soda fountain. If any one is in Toronto, please check it out and report back.

I've tried their retail blends now available from supermarkets. It's not great but the Starbucks one was really bad.
Costa coffee was a hit at work, be brilliant through a real coffee machine opposed to the damn plunger.

Sainsburys own brand stuff still holds up high for me.

As for retail outlets supply, I can only comment on taste, starbucks first, costa second

Hey people I just wanted to let you all know that if you are looking for a reliable manual group domestic coffee machine that makes a perfect espresso, I purchased a Vivi and I don’t think its listed on their website but they do sell it anyway. It cost $2,990 INC GST. I can throw my Saeco rubbish out the door now!

We bought a Gaggia Cubika in November, and the machine has now twice been 'repaired' for severe problems regarding electrical safety and buttons being stuck.

So far, neither Carrefour nor Gaggia customer service cared enough to do something about it, which is why at this moment I personally would not recommend anyone to buy a Gaggia Cubika coffee machine. After repeated failure of 'fixing' the problem despite clear presence of it, I also have my doubts on whether the customer service of Gaggia is actually 'able' to 'fix' any technical problem. At this moment, I am not encouraged to buy any other coffee machine of that company.

Can anyone tell me how to make a better cup of coffee in a plunger??

I love coffee from a filter machine, even the cheapest £6 models from Argos makes a quality brew.
But at work, no matter what beans I use, I can never get a decent brew.

At home I make a nice deep, cleared, filtered coffee, with a proper 'costa shop' taste.
At work, I have dusty, bitter swill that has sludge on the bottom of every cup, and tastes vile. I have to go to the coffee vending machine just to get my taste buds back!

I thought maybe I had gone off coffee after 3 years of drinking the real stuff, but after buying a coffee machine at home I couldnt get enough.

Any tips appreciated, maybe I'm asking too much of my caffetierre??

I hope someone here can help:

I have the Krups Espresso / Filter Coffee Machine, Expert Combi XP200040.
I have had this for 3 weeks, I have so far been unable to steam milk correctly for a cappucino.
A member of my family has a cheap espresso machine, so I watched him do it, making sure I was not doing anything wrong. I use fresh cold milk, a cold stainless steel pitch and wait for the light to go out before steaming, however, very little foam is created and instead the milk just boils.
I checked the user guide and it said to make sure the steam nozzle is clean, It is clean.
Yet still the milk just boils.

Is this a problem with the machine or with me?

Hello all,

Using my recently obtained "Poppery" popcorn popper I have successfully completed my first attempt at roasting my own beans. This is also my first time using a popcorn popper for anything, so 2 firsts in one, not bad.

The coffee: Guatemala Antigua Peaberry "Especial"

(anybody know what a peabery is?)

The goal: Full City+ roast as seen in item 12 here -

The result: What I would call more of a Vienna - Light French roast similar to item 13 on the above link.

I went for the Full City because I figured that gave me more room to over roast the beans and still have something drinkable. Never having done this before I think I wasn't sure when the 2nd crack took place so I ended up letting the beans roast for an even 6 minutes rather than just past the 2nd crack. Next time I will know what to look for and should be able to get it closer.

All in all pretty successfully thus far. I haven't brewed the beans yet because I figure I should let them cool/air out some.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to how long to let them sit before brewing? Sweet Marias says they peak between 4 and 24 hours after roasting, but I don't really want to wait that long. They have been sitting about 20 mins now, so I think their time has come.

All I have is a drip coffee machine, so they may not be showcased at their best but it will do I am sure.

The seals all went and it broke, i had to send it to ny to be serviced. I NEED to buy a new machine in miami, where is a good place to buy and what am i looking for. I want a FULL machine but it is for a private residence it will only be used once a week. I already have the espresso maching grinder so i just need a machine. My coffee machine seems to have a problem with the pump or something...
For a few weeks, i progressively had to turn more the button which select the coffee quantity (little to large cup) to try to fill a same cup as before...
When you push the button, the cycle works normally excepted that when you hear the water pump working, at same time you don''t see so quickly coffee coming out from the machine to fill the cup and even sometimes pump works and almost nothing comes out from the coffee distributor. So to avoid to lose a coffee dose and have almost nothing to half cup (it depends), i quickly turn the button to big cup until the cup is filled enough then turn it back to the other side to stop the cycle.

What i''m worrying about is that the water not filled into the cup seems to go out from the machine from under the base (somewhere in the middle). So, the table is full of clear water and i have to dry it. Water is lost only during (or after) coffee making cycle, no other situation.

Notice that i recently decalcified the machine 2 times what seems to correct the problem but only for short time. And i always used only mineral water to make coffee...

The machine is 2 years old and it''s the first malfunction.

Can you please help and let me know what should be repaired/replaced (maybe some ring) ?

when you metioned that your machine stopped heating water, it may be that you machine's heat exchanger is not working properly and may be spoilt.

and in my opinion, some parts of your machine is not made up of stainless steel or high polymer plastic, which is why they were rusty.

You could try to call your coffee machine's company if they have replacement parts, but if they are too expensive or above $200, i believe it is not worth it at all, because a 3 year machine will depreciate more even with new parts.

There are great quality coffee/espresso machines out there that are $200 or less that have been trusted by numerous customers. Do contact me if you want to know about them or you need more help.

I have a cheapie grinder in my closet and I don't like it. It's a blade whirly grinder and I haven't used it in years. I've been buying pre-ground coffee (yeah, yeah, I know....)
I would like to buy whole bean and grind myself but can't afford to pay alot for a grinder.
My coffee machine is a drip machine. My coffee is a kona blend.
Can someone suggest a grinder that will work for me for no more than 50.00??

The description on some packed beans from supermarket stated suitable for coffee maker and plunger (not mention coffee machine). I wonder if it is true as I understand the brewing method is determined by the ground fineness.

Correct me if I am wrong: all commercial coffee beans can be used in coffee machine if it is ground correctly, all commercial beans can make espresso and just a matter of different taste and aroma.

i found a great coffee maker for you. This coffee machine has a double vacuum insulated thermal carafe and it can make 10 cups of coffee. This machine has a cool filter basket release button and a very effective Brita water filter system.

The machine had great reviews of having no burnt coffee smells and it did not affect the taste at all. The name of this machine is the Braun KF600 Impressions. You could head on to my web log to check it out. :)

Hi, it is a wonderful surprise to know that there is a forum about coffeee. I am Brazilian and expect a lot from my coffee. My husband is American and loves coffee too.

We want to buy a new, good, GREAT coffee machine. I love espresso but he prefers regular coffee. We are just 2 in the house so something small, for a couple is all we need.

Questions:

1-Is there a good machine in the market that can make BOTH, regular and espresso coffee?

2- If not, what brand for coffee machine do you recommend?

3- What about a brand for espresso?

Hi, I'm new here and found this site while attempting to research which coffee machine to buy for our internet cafe in France.

I have never used a coffee machine and have been looking at Franke, schaerer, Jura and La Cimbali automatics, just because they look easier for a novice, is this the case? We will have seating for 40 and I would hope to get around 200 people in the door for coffee sit in and take away a day on a good day, that doesn't sound like many people does it!

I saw a suggestion that you should get a back-up machine too in case one breaks down and here in france there is definately not as much choice as you seem to have in the states. So what would you suggest? Also the french do like their espresso, but the english tourists and expat community are more like to go for cappuchino or latte.

Calling all restaurant owners! What is a good coffee machine for a restaurant that is expecting to sell 50 cups a day (lets say average) and needs a reliable machine to brew and store coffee. The new restaurant that is featuring our coffee has asked my opinion on coffee makers and grinders before they make their purchases - I told them I don't have a lot of experience but that I would try to do some research for them. I'd like to suggest a system that will make it easy for them to serve only fresh coffee (rather than have it sitting in the machine getting stale).

They are also wondering about grinders. What are the best (performance & price) commercial burr grinders that will stand up to the test of time in a restaurant?

They wont be having the coffee volume of a coffee-shop per se, but quality is still very important to them (and to me!).

Any suggestions?

All of the 'pro' machines that have boilers inside them can produce boiling water but I cannot justify the space in the kitchen anymore. My wife worked for Sbux for a number of years, and we have owned three Baristas. They are a decent home coffee machine and we were happy with the results, though not as good as you can get in a good coffee shop.

We upgraded to a $1300 super automatic from Sbux, but we got it on sale with my wife's discount for about $550. It made worse coffee than the Barista, and it broke in four months. We returned it.

We then bought a Pasquini Livea 90 Auto for around $1300 and we were soooo excited. It made great espresso with lots of crema, and it would steam milk soooo very fast. After about six months it started making really crummy espresso. It comes out dark and with very little crema. I need to see if I can get warranty service on it...

If you are on a limited budget, a steel cased Barista from Sbux will make good espresso. We also tried some of their cheaper machines and did not like them. We were always able to buy Baristas for around $175-$225 due to sale prices and my wife's discount. I'm not sure what machines they offer now, or what the cost is...

Is a french press a coffee machine?
Really, all that's needed is hot water, a filter and some grounds. No "machines".

Well if yer a purist....yes it is a coffee machine, but you would have to be a complete Luddite to think so. No mine is the only way to make coffee without a machine.

I suppose you could throw a handful of green beans into the fire, take em out when they're roasted and chew em! :lol: ....that would be the absolute purist method. Also, if you wanted a Cappa, then simply, suck on the udder of a Cow, gargle the milk a bit, then chew your coffee bean (stop sucking on the udder first of course!).....

Hey guys - Newbie here....

I own a 23 room Inn and want to upgrade our coffee experience. Currently we use Bunn automatic drip equipment which is supplied free by our coffee supplier.

The price is not bad, but the coffee is not good (comes ground in the little silver pouches) and it gets burned on the burners.

I would like to buy some good roasted beans and get a grinder and a new coffee machine. Because we only have 23 rooms, sometimes the coffee has to sit for a while.

How about an airpot brewer like this one:

Is it better than sitting on a burner for an hour?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Italy also have "machina" everywhere -university, train station,...-; they are coffee machine like a vending machine for different kind of coffee.

How can you put so much stuff into it like cinnamon? recently i´ve decided to buy a new coffee machine, probably a jura. now i have the problem to decide which one is the best for me; this is quite hard because there are too much different models :?
having studied a few tests and websites, the decision didn´t become more easy. i only need the machine to make latte macchiato, cappucino or espresso. also quite important is the price - everythig over the F90 is too expensive.

does andybody has an idea which one would be best?

I'm thinking of buying a La Pavoni Europiccola EL Espresso Coffee Machine 100119 for home, but can I make a regular cup of coffee on it as well. I currently use a traditional stove top percolator which serves me well for making good regular cups of coffee but I want to be able to make espresso as well. Now I know you can get a lot of automated coffee machines that will do just about anything, but I really like the idea of a proper lever action machine and I’ve got my heart set on the La Pavoni. For instance if you put not so fine grounds in it and run two lots of water through it, would this be the same as a regular filtered coffee? And if so can you get a normal sized cup under the spout or would you need to use a small cup twice and pour it into a bigger cup!

Quite honestly there really is no high end drip coffee machine. I tell people if you have the money to spend buy a Bunn commercial unit like a CDBC coffee brewer or the older version CWTF machine. When these units brake it's just a matter of a few calls to find the local tech in your area to fix it. From my experiance even rebuilt Bunn commercial coffee brewers tend to run fine for 5 to 10 years.

Thats just my personal opionion though. I probably wouldn't get the Bunn BT10B 10-Cup, it's a thermal unit so unless you preheat the carafe you coffee will go cold rather quick on the 1st batch. The rest of the batches you make will stay warm for very long periods becuase the carafe was preheated with your 1st batch of coffee.

Dear All,

Am brand new as Stevie Wonder once said. I do need help badly.

I am trying to devise a feasibility study for penning a Western style cafe in the heart of Africa. The market is a virgin one and it seems like a very good idea at the moment. I am looking at a location that will house up to 40 customers at any given time. My problems are as follows:

1. I need to think about consumables and how much they will cost. I am thinking cofee, tea, sugar. Basically the basic food supplies to keep the joint running. I was wondering if there is a way to estimate it depending on expected traffic (or at all for that matter). I know that for this I need to have decided on the menu. For now, I know it is going to be strictly cafe type. No embelishments except for soup, salad, fruit salad and toasted sandwitches for the keen on healthy living. I hope you can help.

2. I am trying to decide on an appropriate coffee machine. I know I need a commercial line machine with three or two dispensers. I know I want a reliable make and that I have to take into consideration whether or not there are available service centres in the vicinity. In the meantime, I put my eye on a La Pavoni one. I did contact them with enquiries but I am yet to recieve a response. My budget may be limited. I will not know until I find a sponsor who will get hot under the collar for the idea.

I do appreciate you taking time to read all the above and I thank you in advance for helping.

My main questions are now -

1) how much harder is it to use semi-auto than automatic and does it taste noticably better?
2) these espresso 'pods'...do they make acceptable espresso shots? they seem a lot less hassle and generally more idiot-proof than anything else...

I've become quite disheartened with kitchenaid of late.
I've been trying to sort out my mixer problems with them for three months now.

I own a 6 quart mixer, and the pro line coffee burr grinder.
Before that I tried out the little retro burr grinder they sell...The A-9?
The manufacturing and design faults are hideously obvious in their new lines and it just reeks of trying to make a fast buck. I can only presume the other items in the pro line are similar.
I sent the first unit back. The glass jars were warped and the seal on the top lid was beyond cheap and ill fitting. The gasket was a rubber band and the whole thing rattled when it was switched on.
The replacement lid they sent had a proper gasket that was ENORMOUS, obviously intended to fill the gap of the mistake they made in sizing the components yet they never admit to any of this when asked even though it states clearly in the manual that the lid was meant to be a sealed press to fit affair.

The actual grind is pretty good, but poor fitting glass components and lids that just shouldn't be on a piece of kit costing what this did really do spoil it...The worst fault is the interior of the hopper. It screws into the body of the unit OUTSIDE of the opening where the coffee enters the burrs. The gap this leaves between the glass and the outer lip of the body fills up with fragments of coffee instantly, and I now have to pick out lumps of bean every time the hopper empties. It's painfully obvious to anyone who enjoys coffee that they would not want to risk old beins being trapped.

BUT, having said that, the surrounding market for decent burr grinders is pricey, and I couldn't find one that ground as well for around this same price so I stuck with it and bought another one. *shrug*

I know this isn't about your coffee machine, but I just wanted to point out that their so called pro line is seemingly rather shoddy and rushed. You paid a lot for that machine so it's not right, no.
They may even fix these issues given enough production runs, but that doesn't forgive the thousands sold in the mean time does it?
I suggest you goto kitchenaids site and ask on the forum for advice. The public nature of the forum seems to get more done than simply calling, as they're striving to make public displays of good customer servicem as do most of the regulars who don't work for them too. It can get quite sickening but you might strike it lucky and get something done, or bump into someone with the same machine who can offer you some advice.
The staff will likely be about as helpful as asking if you've plugged the machine in.

I dont know about conferences or books, but I know a good way to get ot know coffee first hand. If you want a cheap means of doing this do as I did through Gevalia and their promotional sales. They have a decent selections of different flavors and roasts both whole bean and grounded and the greatest thing is they give you a free coffee machine and travel mug or whatever else is part of their promotion. The coffee ships in small amounts (10 oz or so, I am not 100% sure since I did this a while ago), but once you are done you can always cancel the monthly coffee shipment and keep the coffee machine and whatever else they give. Now I am even more baffled by the choice available! :!:

I am looking for a beans to cup super automatic with good bar pressure, large tanks, prefer 2 boilers.
A good solid reliable make is important.

I was initially looking at spending £250 to £500.
Can anybody recomend a machine and also a place to buy them?

Welcome aboard. You do ask some good questions and CM makes a lot of good points. Although a lot of our customer base are drive thrus (we have also assisted some sit down coffee shops) the formula for starting your coffee/espresso business is simular. I've heard of both Alex and Bellissimo, and I've heard good things about both. I would say your next steps should include setting time lines and incorporate your scheduling accordingly, i.e., get all of your building permits, build outs, etc. completed first, or at least underweigh, then obtain your consultans, designers, roasters and equipment lined up, then after that your training. Some roasters including ourselves have relationships with both espresso and coffee machine manufacturers. Another thing to consider is that there is no such thing as free equipment or free product. You know as well as I do that the equipment cost will be reflected in your coffee price until the equipment is paid off. I just like to be real from the very start so there are no misunderstandings. In this case I agree with you purchasing your equipment to own, it makes sense seeing that you own the building and property. This way should you decide to sell later on you will reap all of the benefits.

Does your location have the ability to add a drive thru window? If so, this would be a big benefit for increasing sales. You mentioned that the architect did not include a hand wash sink up front. During your research for this architect or designer, did you ask them if they had experience in designing for food service establishments? This is sometimes over looked and becomes quite expensive especially if they have to do additional work when making changes. By the way the hand wash sink is a health department requirement, along with a 3 compartment sink, and a mop sink if this is a cafe or coffee shop establishment.

I agree totally with CM's comments in #1 and #2. So you and your brothers may want to sit down and pencil out what directions you want to take. In the meantime visit a couple of other establishments and check out their operations as you have a cup of there coffee, etc. You know do a little research.

I could recommend you this coffee machine that is below $50 and it has a lot of great customer reviews. It is the Black & Decker coffee maker with travel mug. I find this useful if you need a coffee drink on your way to work.

But since you said that you drink at least 4-6 cups, i suggest you get the Braun KF600 coffee maker, but it is less than $100. A bit pricey for a coffee maker.

Ii'll check back and see if i can find more.

I think your problem is you second guessing yourself. For the most part your moving in the right direction.

But have you ever drank an Americano? I really don't like it. The taste is bland compared to regular coffee. The other thing to look at is preparation time for making 1 Americano vs regular drip coffee. Pouring a cup of coffee is 10 times faster then preparing 1 shot of espresso and a plus side to pouring coffee is a monkey could do it. No training required.

I would definitely increase your budget a few thousand more. A good espresso machine is a must but is not a cure all solutions. What is going to happen to your business when the espresso equipment breaks? Closed no coffee today?

I have a Delonghi EC-410 Espresso Machine. I am happy with the quality of the coffee it produces, but for me, it has one major problem. I put the coffee in the filter holder, tampe it, place the filter holder on the machine, run water to get my coffee / syrup. Turn the nozzle to the steamer position, heat the milk and make a superb cup of coffee.

.... Now to the problem. I go to take the filter holder off of the machine to make a second cup and there is a huge pressure build up. The filter holder explodes off of the machine, blowing coffee everywhere and making a mess. The machine is only 6 weeks old and this is the only major disappointment I have with it.

Is this a common problem with all home espresso machines? Can I fix this problem? If not, what is a decent coffee machine I can buy for home use that will not give me any problems?

........... Love the coffee but not the mess. What can I do? It ruins the whole coffee experience. Seems like the machine gets too hot. You can take the filter / holder off 1/2 an hour later and this will not happen.

Thanks for taking a look at my topic and your reply.
Now I'll try to explain a bit more my situation (to avoid some misunderstanding that seems to be here):
- the vending machine (I'm planning to use on) is very good one made by Saeco; and designed and will be used for commercial purpose.
- it's uses REAL Coffee Beans (instead of instant coffee) which is ground at the time of the order;
- but unfortunately it uses powder for all other ingredients (like milk, vanilla, chocolat etc). I don't know what type of powder I'll be using (that what I'd like to find out thru this forum as well :? )
- it can produce upto 8 different types of specialty coffee (depends on model).
- I've tried a few of it's coffee (capuccino and french vanilla) - I'd tell it's quite good coffee (of cause considering that I'm not really a coffee drinker (well at least until now :-))) and I'd not tell much difference from i.e. similar Starbucks coffees.

But since Saeco is a coffee machine producer and not a Cafe - they do not provide with any recipes of a coffee. So now I need to find out on my own - how much of each ingredients should I use (at which proportion) and which sequence. That is the main purpose of this topic.

It must reflect badly on us brits as a nation of pale, generally small and flabby Brits, living in a wet cold country, driving small cars and living in small houses. I think if a 350 lb average florida or Texas? citizen can consume vast quantities of coffee all day long and suffer no ill effects, then it should be possible for us all.

I regularily drink 8-10 cups a day minimum, sometimes more, with 0 effects. The talk about caffiene addition is also puzzling as some days I don't switch the coffee machine on....doesn't bother me, I don't go into withdrawl symptoms. When on holiday, if the coffee is sh1te, then sometimes I won't drink any for 2 or 3 weeks.

It is always possible that some other underlying condition/factors may have been responsible, as I have never heard of such a severe reaction before?

I also have an interest in light commercial coffee equipment. I am a bit further along in the process and my needs were slightly different.
First, if you purchase a light comercial machine for regularly making 300 cups a day, you will be pushing the machine too hard and you will be dissapointed in it''s ability to produce at a speed matched to 300 cup per day machines.
Second, for producing a high quality coffee, an Americano is not what I would make. I would draw a cafe creme or cafe swiss which is a long draw to a larger puck to produce a 6 oz beverage. It is very popular in Europe.
Third, I would expect your staff will need training on any commercial equipment, especially to avoid maintenance problems and safeguarding the health of customers by properly operating and cleaning the equipment. The lowest cost to train and operate will be a super-automatic. Oh, there are some super-automatic machines that make quite good espresso.
Lastly I also feel that you need to budget a bit more. I purchased a super-automatic and have been testing it for several different coffee business operations. My budget was for a light commercial machine that retails from 6-7k US Dollars including a few accessories.

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to posting on this forum but I have to confess I have been reading on this site for a while, finally took the plunge to join. So here's my question, Am I crazy for wanting to open my own independent coffee shop? My wife says I have been acting crazy about this for months, ever since I started talking about opening my own shop. No, really, I have been in development stage since November,I am now working with a small business development center and I am on my way to ownership. I have a local roaster, a great potential location next to a Kroger, a supplier for syrups and sauces, cups and lids, a local coffee machine supplier, and everything is falling into place. I completely expect to wok my butt off to make this shop run,
it in a county of about 50,000 and a town of 15,000. Lots of potential, no other coffee shops in the town. Like I said the location is next to a Kroger that gets 25,000 customers a week, also a tanning salon, UPS store, dry cleaners, Radio Shack, and a GNC in same building. I guess what I'm asking is "Is it worth it?" Can I support a family on what an owner makes by running a coffee shop. My business developer says it looks great, just wanted to get a few comments from people in the industry. Thanks!! :)

Hi .. new here .. we have a budget of stg250 and want to get a coffee machine primarily for latte/cappucino.

I think I understand that its better to grind beans as you want to use them rather than to buy ready ground coffee (we have been buying illy and lavazzo gold for our old, disfunction and generally useless Krups machine).

We are thinking of the Gaggia Synchrony (compact) but have heard quite a few bad things about Gaggia coffee machine products breaking down.

We only tend to have 2-3 cups a day each max (ie 4-6 cups per day total)

Any advice of best choices inside or around our budget would be welcomed .. thanks

you guys inspired me and look what I got.

2/3 cup of coffee (from regular drip coffee machine)
add half & half and sugar (no need to be too sweet)
wait till the coffee gets cold
add 2 scoop of butter almond icecream- $2.99 shopRite brand
add some whipped cream (sweeten) on the top of the icecream- $2.99 ShopRite brand

my favorite icecream flavored with coffee, and the melted icecream also makes the coffee creamy and richier.
It was very hot last night, this coffee drink total cool me down.

Jasmine Willis, 17, could hardly breathe and was taken to hospital with a high temperature and heart palpitations.

She had drunk almost three times the recommended daily amount of caffeine in just four hours.

Jasmine Willis was hospitalised after she drank seven double espressos


Miss Willis, a student, was working part-time out in her father Gary's recently-opened sandwich bar after sitting her GCSEs.

She began her coffee binge last Wednesday after getting only five hours' sleep the previous night.


"I decided to have a double espresso to perk me up," she said. "It did the trick so I had one after another and they seemed to be working. I felt great - as if I could take on the world."

By noon she was feeling unwell and crying and laughing uncontrollably in front of bewildered customers.

Miss Willis said: "My nerves were jangling. Tears were streaming down my face. People kept asking me if I was all right."

Her father sent her home but by the following morning she could not feel her lips and was struggling to breathe.

Miss Willis, from Stanley, County Durham, spent several hours under observation at the University Hospital of North Durham, where the caffeine overdose was diagnosed.

She said: "I was drenched and burning up and hyperventilating.

"I was having palpitations, my heart was beating so fast. I think I was going into shock".

Miss Willis is due to start her Alevels at college next month, studying law, psychology, sociology and accountancy.

She said last night: "Coffee is fine in moderation and really does pick you up, but I just overdid it. I didn't realise what could happen, so I hope other people learn from my mistake."

"I felt exhausted for days afterwards and I can't even bear the sight of coffee now".

Her father said: "Jasmine was just helping out in her holidays and had started on the 8am shift.

"She doesn't usually drink coffee at all, not even instant. But I've just had a beautiful new coffee machine installed so she thought she'd try an espresso."

The Department of Health advises people not to drink more than five single espressos or four cups of instant coffee a day.

Earlier this year scientists questioned the validity of the traditional view that caffeine can reduce the effects of tiredness and increase alertness.

The Bristol University team found that the levels of alertness among those who drank coffee were almost the same as those who had drunk none.

Coffee has been found to have some health benefits, however, Studies have suggested it can protect against the onset of Parkinson's disease and keep the mind sharp into old age.

Tea and coffee also contain a wealth of other health-boosting compounds.

Hello people!
I am trying to find a really fancy, modern and of weird design coffee machine. Actually, my gf has moves to a new house and I would like to get her one...I know she drinks filter coffee...but what the heck I doubt any women would not like a coffee machine in their house.....It has to make filter coffee though....LOL!But it has to be of extraordinary design....... :-D ...
