View entire thread: grinder and type of bean

what is the best type of bean for making espresso i heard its arabica or somert like thatDifferent roasters use different beans to develop their espresso blend. It can be 100% arabica but it can also be blend of arabica and robusta. There is even a 100% robusta espresso out there that is quite good. Some roast their dark, and other roast theirs light. There is no such thing is best type of bean. This is sort of like asking which beer is the best? It all depends on individual preference.
what type of grinder will i need and how fine do i grind it to get the nicest flavourYou should buy the best espresso burr grinder that you can afford. The best grinder and an average espresso machine is a better (and cheaper) set up than the best espresso machine and an average grinder.
also will someone explain to me what the shot time is abouthttp://coffeeforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7163

I just bought the best espresso machine ever! I just got the Lavazza Espresso Point from www.romaespresso.com. It makes the best coffee ever. I am so happy with this machine we should start a club :-). Outside of a major espresso machine like a Pasquini, I have never seen a small machine with such good espresso making capabilities! :-) :-)
I am a happy coffee maker in San Diego!

The Synesso is, hands down, the best Espresso machine on the market, worth every penny. Maintenance is super easy, not least because these machine are designed to not break in the first place.

We have had a Synesso for the last two years, and we have enjoyed every day with it.

Ditto to John P's remarks concerning SERVICE and PARTS availability. The "Best" espresso machine in the world won't do you any good if it doesn't work. You need to strongly consider the person and/or service agency from whom you are buying your machine. Good Luck!

RomanCrema, if you run "baby gaggia" through the forum search, you will find some good info.

Also, if you read between the lines of our posts, you'll notice the importance of not just what type of espresso machine you purchase, but also the importance of sourcing quality beans and grinding fresh, temperature control, maintenance, etc. Without these contributing factors, you may find that even the best espresso machine on the market won't deliver to you the quality in crema that you seek.

Forum members hesitate to simply recommend a particular type of machine, without mentioning the other important factors in accordance. You may take our advice on a machine and find that your espresso is not up to your standards and blame the person who recommended the machine to you in the first place, if you don't follow the other critical advice.

Scott, first let me say that you are smart in doing your homework before proceeding with your new coffee venture. And while I don't know anyone to recommend in your area, might I suggest that you talk to a few local established coffee houses and see if they can recommend someone.
My parting comment is to buy the best espresso machine that you can afford and buy it from someone local who can provide you with traning and service. You might want to check out my website and click on the Espresso FAQ's link where I have lots of basic advice for newbies.
Good luck with your future business. -David
