Agreed. I get on once or twice a day and find there are at least 5 posts of just blatant spam...have stopped looking for people pushing their coffee brand because I spend all my time getting rid of the porn or pornaceuticals.
sucks that this is a not-profit site and its getting hit to the point that 6 people have to be constantly cleaning it up. Maybe we should take a credit card # and charge em $250.00 every time they drop an add.

In most cases I recommend not roasting at first.
Consider: Roasting coffee (and buying green coffee and blending, and packaging, etc.) is an entirely different business, which requires several completely different skill sets from cafe operations. Roasting requires a further (and large) investment in capital equipment - that is more specialized than coffee brewing and foodservice equipment.
In a start-up new venture, you will have your hands full successfully operating one new type of business - why add another major challenge? You should readily find several committed specialty coffee roasters to compare - and then you can select coffee and service levels that best suit your needs.
Learn and put into practice all you can about coffee brewing, tasting, espresso, barista skills, training, cafe/foodservice operations and local store marketing. Then think about expanding by adding a second cafe location or by adding a roasting capability.
Just because you do not roast, does not mean that you cannot promote your own coffee brand. You can easily work with many roasters to co-pack coffee in your brand packaging. Depending on volume, packaging, costs, product selection, and other factors - a co-packing scenario may be best option forever. Several multi-unit chains and franchisors have co-packed in one variation or another for decades while strongly promoting their brand.

Aloha,
I'm looking to buy coffee from Kona (100% prefferably) estate or non-estate. I'm looking for roasted and packaged coffee but without the label. I'd like to start my own company selling a coffee brand and have my own labels.
I currently live on Oahu so I probably could just wander over to the Big island and ask around but found this forum and thought I would post the question.
Wondering what prices for 2 oz, 8oz, 14oz, 1lb, 2lb, and or 5lb pre-packaged whole bean would be and if anyone has any.
And yes, I found coffeeroom.com and am working on getting a quote, but would imagine they are a bit pricey.

I am a student from Taiwan. The "Hello Boss coffee" confused me for a long time cause I've never heard this product and it's manufacturer in my country. I think the "Hello Boss Coffee" is a clone product of another Taiwan coffee brand " Mr. Brown Coffee". You can see the below website :

The brand photos of "Hello Boss" and "Mr. Brown" are similar, right ? I do not know why the "Hello Boss" coffee is so popular in California, because for we Taiwanese, it looks like a clone product of "Mr. Brown coffee". I think if you go to chinatown or some other asian market, you can also find the "Mr. Brown coffee". The " Mr. Brown Coffee" is a famous coffee brand with good reputation in Taiwan. As for "Hello Boss" (?) . Maybe the company really exists in Taiwan and sells its coffee drinks to U.S only. I am sure that the "Hello Boss" product do not sold in Taiwan market.

You answered many of your own questions.
While we all have different definitions of "good", I think you have a few viable options, depending on your particular needs.
Most people agree that "you get what you pay for". I will add that you are guaranteed to "pay for what you get", but may not receive full value for what you pay. All things comparable, the more features (e.g. super-automatic control, built-in grinder, auto-frother, custom paint, stainless steel) you get - generally the more you sacrifice on build quality, reliability and performance. Think about a fully-featured car with all the bells and whistles compared to a base-model sedan from another manufacturer with better build quality - they may retail for similar prices, but which one is BETTER FOR YOU?
Yes, I agree that the full-auto and super-automatics in that price range are not designed to be durable. full-time, full featured, full capacity commercial machines. I have some experience with several different super-automatics, and they are appropriate in some circumstances. the machines in your budget range are meant for occassional use, such as home and office environments. They can suffice for a small volume restaurant or a bartender's needs, but are un-likely suitable for a cafe that intends to establish a specialty coffee brand and a top quality beverage product. The super-autos are more difficult to program and adjust to changing coffee characteristics, but are easier to teach "how to operate" to un-skilled staff. The truly commercial grade new super-autos are 2-3 times your budget - you would need to pay more to get more (or shop for used/reconditioned).
If your shop is small volume now, you likely operate with one-three reliable employees (perhaps including yourself) that will prepare all the espresso based drinks. In this case, automation may be more gadgets than you really need. Get some good training on a good quality semi-auto with a decent doser-less espresso grinder and you can make some amazing beverages with a modicum of practice. Good quality commercial grade single or two-head espresso machines and a doserless grinder basic models begin in your price range. I hope you noticed, I said DOSERLESS grinder
. The top quality machines are significantly more, offering better build quality, better preparation caliber and significantly greater production capacity. You may also find reconditioned used gear of that type that is (just) within your budget - much less than your budget is likely not worth paying for.
Ask your specialty coffee / espresso roaster for assistance. Consider finding a roaster that specializes in fresh roasted espresso.
Consider that local service support may be more important than absolute price or even the specific machine you choose. Source local service now, and ask for assistance. You may even find the roaster or service house has a good trade-in machine or re-furbished demonstrator unit available.
Before you decide, think about who will use the equipment, who and how will you have the staff trained, what quality does your customer expect/deserve, how many drinks do you expect to sell per hour (this year and third year), how much will these beverages retail for, and what brand/quality image do you wish to project?

Here in the Uk there aren't too many choices. Usually the store's brand, and maybe one other one. I just get the store's brand , because I've tried the other and there's no difference; and the store brand comes in "italian", "espresso", and "french" at least. We can't get coffee in a 4-gallon barrel for $10 (maxwell house, etc) like in America
If I am somewhere where there is a specialty shop I will just get what appeals to me.
If I had my choice of any coffee brand, I would probably go for Arbuckles'. I have only seen it a couple places in NY. They have the BEST flavors! mmmm Blueberry Muffin......

Hi Guys! wow cant beleive ive found a coffee forum. My cafes located in Melbourne Carnegie.
Coffee brand we use is Gravity. Weve asked to be upgraded to a new 3 group machine. Currently we use a 2 group Megacrema. That is the only name i could find on the machine. ive never heard of it before.
The want to give us a machine that has strange name and i cant spell
it correctly but someone may be able to help.

I have been reading through some of this and my head is spinning at all the trickery about making a latte.
For starters, to achieve a good latte, a $30 Walmart espresso machine will do nothing more than disappoint. I had purchased a Mr Coffee brand and it blew. I took that back so fast!!
Then I bought a more expensive machine, which I love. I bought a Krups that was about $150.
One important thing to remember about making a latte is that you want something that can steam milk AND achieve a good foam. You will not get this with a cheap machine. Sorry.
To properly steam milk and achieve a nice amount of foam, here are some tips.
1. Chill your container that hold the milk in the freezer for at least 5 minutes - up to 15.
2. If you can, put the milk in it while you put it in the freezer, but no more than 5 minutes following this method.
3. It is best to use a stainless steel container instead of glass.
4. Your container should really have the capacity to hold double the amount of liquid you are pouring into it.
5. Your milk needs to be COLD...and I mean COLD. This is why putting it in the freezer is a good idea.
6. Fat free and 1% milk foam the absolute best.
Some other tips for properly making espresso....
1. Do not use ground coffee....use espresso. Real espresso - not some french roast or Maxwell House. That is crap. 
2. Whole beans freshly ground within the last 5 days produce a much better taste.
3. When grinding your own beans, use a fine grind. This will allow the best and most proper brew. You will know it is brewing properly because your espresso will have a light foam on the top of it.
4. Tamp your espresso down in the filter before inserting the filter into the machine.
5. Cold water makes a better tasting espresso. Don''t worry, it will come out piping hot.
I love Starbucks'' Marble Mocha Macchiato. I am not 100% there, but I can tell you what I have done to almost get that flavor. It works for a White Chocolate Mocha as well.
1. Make your own sauce and syrup. If you don''t know how, that is what Google is for.
search: recipe, white chocolate sauce
2. Starbucks makes their own which chocolate sauce and dark chocolate syrup. They will not sell these to the public.
3. The white chocolate sauce is made in a factory and the dark chocolate syrup is made right there in the store daily.
The oil in the cup after you finish your Mocha is from the white chocolate. It is very simple to make yourself on a stovetop with heavy whipping cream and white chocolate.
To make a Marble Mocha Macchiato:
1 oz white choc sauce
1 cup steamed milk
Milk Foam
1 oz espresso shot
dark choc drizzle
OR
1.5 oz choc sauce
1.5 cup steamed milk
Milk Foam
2 oz espresso shot
dark choc drizzle
White Mocha
The same as above, add extra .5 oz of white choc mocha and omit the dark chocolate.
How do I know all of this? If I told you, I would have to kill you!
