Posted by kathrynh on 2006-08-07 14:32:04      Post Subject: Ward Barbee Passes Away

Words cannot express the loss that we have all experienced this past weekend. While vacationing with family in Rome, Fresh Cup magazine founder Ward Barbee passed away Saturday August 5th.

Ward had an instrumental presence and passion for the specialty coffee industry. In his life, Ward breathed, slept, and dreamt coffee. His writings, education, and travels have all helped to benefit the global coffee community. It goes without saying that the scope of his life's ambition can be felt by everyone in the world of specialty coffee - this loss has caused a shock that will ripple out to impact all of us. I speak for everyone at Coffee Fest when I say that we will miss him deeply. Ward was a dear friend, and his passing has left us with a void that will be impossible to fill. We will always carry a picture of him in our hearts and fondly remember Ward with his quirky sense of humor, zest for life, passion for coffee, an electrifying smile, and a stogie out this side of his mouth. Our hearts go out to the entire Fresh Cup team, his friends and family, and the many other lives that were touched by Ward Barbee.

So, you're saying caffeine is not good. Just a little lesson, but don't come on CoffeeForums.com to plug your fungus product and tell all of us that coffee is bad for you. I not only have a problem that you are not contributing positively to this site, but also a giant caffeine study is being done next door to us at Vanderbilt Universoty. They are discovering more and more benefits of coffee, many of which are the same as your "rare" mushrooms. This site is not for free advertisement and plugs. People here ask and answer questions about the coffee community to help others and learn what they might have not known before. Please, give in this way or go and start your own site. Here's one: MushroomForums.com :!:

Hi all,

hope everyone is well.

I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out by taking a little look at my recently launched coffee website.

My goal is to build on 3 pillars over time, to provide

- a coffee resource
- the latest coffee news
- a coffee community

Hopefully i can go some way to achieveing this and any feedback would be really great so i can get the user experience just right.

The URL is under my profile as i don't want to break any rules by posting it here so thanks in advance for your time taking a look.

Regards
:)

View entire thread: Hi I am intersted in making espresso

Pillman, do you work for WLL, or have stock in their company???

He does speak some truth. I wouldn't go any cheaper than a Solis Maestro+, but if you want the best espresso for the money, I would not get an automatic machine (ie Magic Deluxe). They don't produce real crema, but rather, frothed coffee.

You have a lot of options at the price range you mentioned. You could even look at a Rancilio Silvia, which, in the internet coffee community, is certainly the most popular machine. You might even find a used one - the silvia makes fanatics out of people, and their owners often upgrade to $1000+ machines.

I'm looking at the innova grinder at espressoparts.com - it's on sale for 169. You should check out the product reviews at www.coffeegeek.com

...or you could buy my Francis X3... it's purdy :)

I'm Back!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry it's been so long since posting Topher. I came back from the convention to the news that my former boss and our BGA Southwest Regional guy died. It hit our local coffee community kinda hard. Then after the dust settled on that, I've just been really busy with the potential move we have coming up. Anyway, it was great meeting you Topher! Thanks for sitting down and talking with me. You don't find that often when the people you hold in high regard actually take the time to talk. Now about that bacon coffee...

i look forward to talking to you all about coffee while enjoying a nice cup myself.
