    Water Filter System

Several times a month...I use a cheapie/innaccurate pen-style TDS meter (I have two). Their value doesn't lie in their accuracy, so much as their relative readings during comparisons. One says my RO is zero, while the other says 2, with the zero meter indicating my tap is 44ppm, and the 2 meter...

    It started so simply...

Howdy Christopher! :D Your story is quite familiar! It was 'specialty' roasted coffee (Peet's before 'the expansion') that turned me on to coffee, then espresso, and turned it into a daily habit for me...to this day I don't consider myself a 'coffee drinker' because America has/had a certain...

    Water Filter System

Did you forget to include a spun-fiber sediment filter? With a home well, that would be my very first stage. Indeed, when I was on wells, I had two sediment stages, as the iron 'muck' would plug up a spun filter well before the other filters were ready to be changed. I had to change the stage 1...

    Free pour vs. etching?

Oh yeah! We can see'em just fine! I enjoy the creativity, especially beyond the ordinary basic rosetta (even though I'm still working on it! LOL!), and I've exhausted youtube's vid supply. :p A skill like that should be recorded, shared and admired! :)

    Free pour vs. etching?

Yep! I like free-pour, but I agree with Randy...please shoot some quickie vids of both. :) I'd love to see what you do other than standard rosettes!

    making an Americano

I use a triple basket (21 grams) but a double will work just fine. I add approx. 5 oz. water from my steam boiler, into the creamer pitcher first (kills off a lot of excessive heat), then add it to my shot, which went directly into my cup. :)

Is this a good starter unit?

I too have the Starbuck 'Barista' version (Saeco) of this, and while it cannot maintain a stable intrashot pull temp (measured with a calibrated thermocouple) and it pulls cooler near the end of the shot, it makes a very cheap entry point, and can deliver decent shots, especially for milk...
