Starbucks does serve some good specialty coffees. I suppose I rarely opt to buy anything from them, as I find their prices outrageous. No coffee, specialty or not should cost $8 or more.

I'd noticed this as well. The large chains pull a lot more people in the populated urban areas. People will sit in their cars in the lineup, waiting for that coffee, donut or breakfast sandwich. I recall one time I saw a guy honk his horn in a drive thru lineup, probably impatient or in a rush...

I agree. We see a lot more big chains while driving down the road, unlike the odd coffee shop/roaster we'll find on some street, with only one or two locations. Most people want their food or drink, given to them in a short amount of time. I lived like this for years, so it wasn't "Let's go to...

I agree that speed and price do factor in. I'd never bought fresh whole bean coffee, and am not sure whether it's more expensive than a tin of a big chain's fine grind or not. I understand it's an impossibility for most people when at work, to start making fresh coffee anywhere or anytime...

Up north here in Ontario, it's Tim Hortons. They always use, and even sell their own brand of pre ground coffee. There's also a decent sized lineup in store or in the drive thru, during rush hour. They're making money hand over fist with the selling of their sandwiches, baked goods and coffee...

The majority of the time, I drink it for taste. However, there will be times where I feel beat, and will either make a cup of coffee or tea as a pick me up. Strangely, it doesn't always work. I've had nights in the past where I'd had three coffees throughout the day, and still felt tired.

Was drinking medium roast from Tim Hortons (Canada's Dunkin' Donuts) and at home. When I bought a Keurig K50, I found the medium roasts very weak. I was then advised to use dark roasts and extra bold coffee for it. Then eventually, I woke up one morning and not only did the Keurig coffee taste...

Could it have been the very low humidity in my home, affecting the taste and aroma? I hadn't thought of it until today. I hadn't turned on my humidifier until now. Could this have affected the way my K cup and store bought fine grind tasted and smelled?

Update: Today I go and purchase a 12 cup stainless steel percolator, from Hamilton Beach. However, this is a smaller plastic ring around the inside tip, just below the glass. I brewed my first cup of coffee tonight and luckily it wasn't bitter. Yeah, the taste was still bland and the coffee...

Like both equally, although for years drank mostly orange pekoe (Tetley). Like it strong and would leave the tea bag in for five or more minutes sometime. Good with honey. I didn't like it with sugar. Been on a coffee trip lately, going through dozens upon dozens of K cups, prior to it tasting...
