Teach me how to French Press

For my taste, I like putting about 3 heaping teaspoon fulls of course ground coffee per mug (my mugs are about 1.5-2x the size of a standard cup). Then add hot water. Stir. Then wait 4+ minutes and press.

    Stove top Espresso maker

A friend of ours gave us one in Italy. I think it's from Ikea. I think I like it more than the press because it's easier to brew a good cup and zero grains. What I do is put water up to the screw thingy, then put finely ground coffee near brim fullness without packing it. Then onto the stove...

    Hello from the Philippines!

Oh definitely! That's why I decided to get my own hand grinder. For now I have the coffee shop grind them for me. They're ok but sometimes they grind too fine for my press.

    French Press and Health

Was talking to a friend and he thinks the news linking cholesterol and coffee is total bull haha He believes you can only get cholesterol from animal fat. I said nuts are high in fat too. Then we got into this long discussion about fat and cholesterol haha! Too many factors really.

Living with someone that doesn't share your passion for coffee

My wife prefers pre-mixed instant coffee lol! She finds the coffee I make too strong or bitter tasting.

Do You Pre-Heat Your French Press?

I guess if you live in cold places, heat dissipation is an issue. Here in the Philippines tho, it's not that big a deal. What I do is get the hot water from a dispenser and pour it in the press. Stir. Wait 5 minutes and that's it. I find it tastes the same as when Starbucks or Coffee Bean...

Favorite Medium-Dark and Dark Roast Coffee Beans?

I just got Sumatra beans from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Very good! I also got French Roast from Starbucks. Slightly more bitter tasting than the Sumatra beans but the aftertaste has a very nice creamy finish. If I were to choose between the two I'd get the Sumatra.

    French Press and Health

Haha excellent point! I read in another article how coffee lowers the risk or some cancers AND lowers the risk of heart attack. Huh? So it increases my cholesterol AND lowers the risk of heart attack? Time for some coffee hehe

Thanks for your reply! What other methods are you using right now? I suppose we could start using the coffee machine again and just use the press for cappuccinos - which taste fantastic with the rich flavor plus milk froth. I just love the notion of the press being all manual, no hassle of...

    French Press and Health

Hi everybody, My mom gave me a coffee press for Christmas and I've been drinking everyday since. I really love it and I've gotten to understand how to brew a pretty great (to me) cup of joe. However, I've been reading a lot of bad things about pressed coffee and cholesterol (raising LDL). And...

    Hello from the Philippines!

Hi PinkRose, Thanks for the warm welcome! I believe we do have a grinder (at least that's what my wife tells me). What I was planning to do was to buy the coffe grounds or have the coffee shop grind the beans for me. I would like to "master" the brewing process as much as possible before...

    Hello from the Philippines!

Hey guys, This is lorsban from Davao City, Philippines. Davao is in the southern part of Mindanao (the island closest to Indonesia). Was never much of a coffee connoisseur, drinking mostly instant stuff plus the ocassional Coffee Bean visit. But my father in law was really into it and was...
