Hello Jamaryy,

Why would you want to run your air conditioner without the filter?

Even though your air conditioning system will work without a filter, experts recommend against it, because it can cause severe damage to your AC system, and then you'll need to pay for expensive repairs.

Running the AC without a filter just for one night won't hurt your AC system, but it sure won't help it either. Running the AC any longer than a night without a filter risks serious damage to the Air Conditioner in addition to having poor indoor air quality.

That's not a good idea. An AC filter not only helps you clean the air that's circulating, it also ensures that the internal AC systems don't get clogged with dust particles and other pollutants. They trap various kinds of pollutants like dust, dirt, pollen, mold and mold spores, lint and fiber, human hair, pet fur, bacteria and other micro organisms and allergens. What it will block will depend upon the quality of the air filter you have installed. I came across this page few days back on best AC filters - https://www.hod9.com/best-ac-filter-for-air-flow/ - while researching for the kind of AC filters I should buy for my hvac system. I took delivery of the Honeywell FC100A1037 since it was a good fit.

I would say don't use your AC system without an appropriate set of filters. They are vital for the performance of your AC and for your well being.

Since he (or she) mentioned a "washable filter" I'm wondering if the question is about a small window air conditioner, and not an air-conditioning system for a whole house.

I am assuming they have a reusable filter and want to clean it. Probably want to know so they can wash and dry it before putting back. I personally would buy a second reusable filter if this is the case. Clean one while the other is the the unit.

Why? Washable filter is dirt cheap compared to buying a new AC just because it went broke easily because of improper usage.

He can only run it without the washable filter if he grinds his beans to a medium fine density. Too course and the unit won't work properly.

I once really needed a heating and air conditioning specialist, but I ran into one big problem. The thing I realized is that real craftsmen are very, very few. I went to a lot of companies, read on the Internet, watched various videos. All this brought no result. One day I met with a very old friend and told him about my problem. He advised me to contact a company and told me that they would be able to solve my problems. It was my last hope, and yes indeed, they helped me a lot. So I came to the conclusion that a good handyman is very hard to find.

Hello there! Even though I’m not an expert, I wouldn’t advise you to run your AC without a washable filter. agree with the others who told you that it is not the best thing to do. Indeed it would alter the air quality you’re breathing and even damage your AC system, and I don’t think you want that. While we are on the subject of AC, if you ever have any issues with your AC, contact spartamech.co.uk. It is a family-run business with air conditioning engineers and services like AC maintenance or repair.

Fiber filters with cardboard frames will disintegrate so they are listed as one time use or disposable. Most extended media filters fall into this category as well. Metal mesh filters, electrostatic and electronic filters must be washed.

If a filter is badly clogged and you are up against it, you can try using a vacuum attachment. Many vacuum hoses have a port you can open to reduce suction. This method meets with varying degrees of success and is meant only as a stopgap until a new filter can be secured
