My family owns a coffee plantation in Nicaragua. We are trying to develop a new product to bring into the US. Right now our biggest concern is importing to the US. Are there any permits we need? Any special requirements? Etc.? if anybody has done this before any advise will be greatly welcomed.

Its not as difficult as you may think. You need to visit the FDA website and work on listing your company with them, as well as working out how to fill out the Prior Notification of shipment forms. This part is a bit confusing at first, but with practice you will get it right. As long as you have a good freight company the rest is fairly basic. You do need to provide an ICO certificate which you can normally get from the local government officals. You may find the export requirements form Nicaragua are more difficult than the import requirements into the USA.
