Hello everyone,

I'm very interested in starting up a roasting business in Florida. I want to roast out of my home supplying to retail stores. I'm aware you have to have a food permit to supply to retail and you cannot use your personal kitchen to roast.
Can I renovate a room in my house to code and then be approved to supply to retail? I'm concerned it is not possible to roast out of my home but was hoping there was some way around this to make it work.

All input will be greatly appreciated! I've been addicted to this site to all the vital information but have not found an answer to this question!

There are some members that have added a roaster to their garage. I am not sure if you would be able to get approved for a home. I had a hell of a time trying to get my roastery approved in a retail setting. No one wanted to sign off on it because they had never seen one before. Where in Florida are you? I have my roastery in Delray Beach.

What concerns came up with the inspector when you attempted to get approval?

I was doing farmer markets in Florida, roasting out of my garage. There is a cottage kitchen law, which I am pretty sure allows what I was doing, but you can research a bit yourself. Florida - Cottage Food Law

Good luck!
