I have a Royal No.5 that we are currently restoring... Anyone know how to determine the year that our roaster was built? It's serial number is in the 1500s.
I've actually never roasted on one before, are they difficult to regulate?
The reason that I ask is that I'm toying with adding some modern instrumentation/controls to mine. I'd like to make any necessary holes prior to sending the parts out for plating. And yes, they are very cool machines!
Date was on the motor. We had an in house engineer group that rebuilt the whole thing. I mean it was all original..just rebuilt. Leather belts drove the drum..pretty sweet. I didn't like the gas regulator. It was a bit scary. You opened the holes(pie shaped) to increase the gas. Someone opened it so wide once while I was out. When I came back to roast I turned it on and gas was pouring out the regulator....thing blew up and took half my 7 inch goatee...funny now, not funny then. Good luck with your mods!
