Bali Kintamani Beans

I purchased a pound of Bali Kintamani beans that were supposed to have been roasted yesterday. When I went to grind some for a pot of coffee, the beans seemed a little oily. Is this normal for these beans?

One way to tell if the coffee beans are freshly roasted is to look for the oil on the beans.

It sounds like your coffee was, in fact, freshly roasted. And if the beans are a dark roast, you'll see more oils than you're used to seeing.

It's best to wait a couple of days before grinding and brewing freshly roasted coffee, but if you don't want to wait, that's okay too!

Coffee beans that is oily after roasting is a sign of freshness. However not all coffee will excrete the same amount of oil. Some may be very noticeable and look like they have been soaked in oil, whereas others may be very discrete with only faint remanets of oil. Usually you will find that the darker the roast of the coffee the more oil you will find as the more roasting tends to bring out more oil. The peak taste time for coffee is about 7 to 10 days after the roast.
