Who makes and were do I get. I'm fine with used or small modifications or half built by myself.

Air roasters offer the most bang-for-the-buck. Used Artisan machines (by Coffee Crafters, Post Falls, ID) are available on the used market regularly - especially when green coffee prices rise as they have been. :/ You may find them in 3 lb to 10 lb sizes.

Depends on various factors... like how involved do you want to be in the process, expected use/volume, does it have to be certified in any way for your location if used to sell roasted coffee, etc. For my personal use I built my own as I am not that impressed with purpose built roasters with the lame nanny/safety mechanisms built in, parts availability, etc. Built it to be very robust, simple in design/easy to source parts if needed, gives me the ability to see/smell the roast development and make changes in real time... closing in on the half ton mark using it and never lets me down.
