Bottomless Portafilter - Instructions on how to make one

Thanks for the post stuffbuff. I have just got back from NZ where I heard stories of barista (in the good old kiwi way) using hack saws to make naked PF's, This method of yours is sure a heck of a lot easier and IMHO would produce a much straighter result! :-)

Well I guess I feel like I might have made mine with a little overkill involved then. I just stopped by the local Iron works and had one of their guys plasma torch the bottom off. Took about 15 seconds. Then we just walked over to a small drum type sander and cleaned up the bottom of all the sharp edges. Cost: $0.00 they felt I was the one being cheated if they charged for such a little job.

Free - Now that's a good deal!

Have you abandoned using regular portafilters all together? How noticeable is the taste difference?

Surely it cant be that noticeable??

It's not unless your not cleaning your portafilters out.
