Excellent discussion on roasting and "Tips from the Tryer" from an experienced commercial roaster, Joe Marrocco - Cafe Imports. Then, a discussion between a barista from an FTO shop and Joe who sells both conventional and FTO.

Watch here.

There are a lot of pros and cons regarding "Fair Trade". With a little digging, university research papers can be found.

More and more roasters with established business are traveling abroad, buying "Direct Trade". SM's "Farm Gate" and micro-lot's although not transparent, appear to support fair pricing.

hello Hankua,
sorry to ask but I don't quite understand "why it is not transparent"? when clients visit farms to buy coffee directly? in what sense?
also, when you say "fair pricing", is that mean "fair trade pricing"? or the clients give better/fair pricing directly to the farms?

bit confused.
thanks for your explanation in advance.
