Using the metal filter will provide the coffee's natural oils to go into the cup as the coffee is being put in, this will provide more of a rich and full-bodied coffee, which also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Put the paper filter in and it will take out most if not all those oils.
So, it depends on how you like your coffee to tasted, try both ways, try to do a side-by-side comparison and decide which you like the best.
If you decide that you like your coffee with the filter, then buy the white bleached filters, the tan, or natural filters will put a minute amount of taste into the coffee that you may or may not notice, but the natural one tends to lean towards a fuller richer cup, whereas the white ones tend to lean towards a cleaner crisper cup of coffee. The natural tan colored ones are supposedly better for you and the environment, but that also is probably extremely minute, and since there are no warnings on the white filter packaging it's a non-issue, but I mentioned it in case you're a bit over the top with concerns of either or both.
