Only took me two years, but I took some advice given here. I bought a brand new El Cheapo burr grinder online for $15 two years ago. It worked just alright for Espresso grind, but I wanted to take it up a notch, but without the expense. I've owned a set of brass shims since the 1970's, there are .002 thick shims on it. So I remove the top grinder plate and cut the shims to fits underneath the plate, thereby bring the plates .002" closer. Well it worked! Now getting seriously fine and consistent espresso grind and I love it. What took me so long!! :decaf: !

Now getting nice smooth and foamy from start to finish, where before it took a wee bit to get thick and foamy.

and still using my $3 DeLonghi!

Congratulations! It sounds like you were determined to find a "fix" and you obviously made one that worked for you.

It's nice when things work out in the end.
