Greetings,

My Proctor Silex Easy Morning Coffeemaker (model 48524RY) is plugged. Any ideas on how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Shane.

Is it worth saving to you? If so dilute some citric acid to the proper ratio and let it sit in the water reservoir for a few hours. Turn the machine ON and see if it starts to flow through. If so, let about half the mixture go through and turn it OFF to sit a bit longer to ensure maximum effectiveness. Then turn ON again and let brew cycle finish. Then run several fresh water cycles through and taste the water often as citric acid tastes like sour salt.

I will see if they have citric acid at the grocery store.

The manual says to use plain white vinegar for cleaning. Do you think this might work for unblocking it?

I would like to get a new one, but I live in a remote area, where they don't sell coffee makers.

Thanks,
Shane.

White vinegar is just OK if it's all you have, but it's quite slow on descaling and of course can permeate some plastic parts with the odor.

I will try the citric acid then. What is the proper ratio?

Thanks,
Shane.

I use a heaping teaspoon per quart of very warm water and stir until fully dissolved. Of course more can be used for quicker results, but I prefer to use less unless more is really necessary.
