I just read the manual to my espresso/coffee machine. It said that in order to avoid that puff of steam i should release the residual steam by opening the steam wand for a second or two, close it and THEN open the handle... Is that true?. I dont have time to try it now.. and as i had 4 esspresso's already i dont think i can down another one.

Thanks in advance,

The main problem here is we don't know what type of machine you have? Some steam driven machines are like that and if you don't want the pressure exploding your puck then you should follow the advice from the manual.

This can also apply to single boiler or thermoblock machines not equipped with 3-way solenoids. Relieve pressure by opening the steam valve or simply wait 1-2 mins before unlocking the portafilter.

haha forgot about those. I must have been half a sleep when I answered this post. Thanks for the catch shadow!
