Opening a New Coffee House

I am opening a new coffee house in Illinois. Any start up suggestions that I should consider? I am new to the business and any feedback would be appreciated.

I am in the process of opening a coffee shop (our first). I decided to try to keep an informal record of the process, mostly for our own memories.
I am making posts every day or two and have been for awhile. It would seem that our 'mistakes' or challenges get the most attention in the blog. But, it is good to look through, as you may run across something we have experienced that you can avoid, or it may bring a subject to light that you hadn't thought about.

Consider franchises that validate well with other owners

The details of starting a shop can be overwhelming and business owners without a sound plan fail more than 80% of the time. Consider looking at franchises that validate well. I am a franchise consultant and a coffee shop (franchise) owner. I would never do it without the help received.
