Just looking at starting a new roasting (small business - part-time) from my garage. Wondering what regulations there are in Canada surrounding this. I am looking at a 5kg roaster and roasting on weekends and evenings and selling at a local market then hopefully to other local stores in the area.

Thks All!

Hello "con771"

Welcome to the Coffee Forums website.

Are you located in Canada right now? The best way to get reliable information is to contact your local municipality and explain what you're thinking of doing, and see where they direct you.

We have a few members from Canada who roast and sell coffee. Hopefully, they'll visit the forum soon and offer you come suggestions.

Definitely contact your local municipality and take it from there!

Your best bet is to contact your local municipality as the rules change from province to province as well as from city to city.

As far as I know if your doing it out of your home "private" then you have no issue. Coffee does not fall under food or beverage bylaw.

I'm guessing if you're doing anything out of your home "private" there would be no issue - unless you get caught. Then it's a big issue.
