Saeco Aroma variable long delay

My friend says that there is sometimes a long delay (20-30 seconds) before the pump starts. I am assuming that the water is not hot enough. The pump should only operate when the water has reached the proper temp. A bad pump would operate but without adequate pressure... Are there sensors for this? Any other reasons why the variable delay? Sometimes it works 'normally'. I'd like an idea before I take it apart ;-) thanks

Given the way it is wired, the pump should always work. Sounds like a problem with the pump itself. When my Saeco Aroma stopped pumping water I fixed it and made a little video which might help you if you want to service it yourself. Have a look if you like:
