Sorry, I don't have much knowledge about coffees, I just thought coffee shops use the one with bigger package. I googled Illy, but I found only small packages. If coffee shops use smaller ones, then that's OK with me. Also, it seems that small Illy coffees are bit pricey. Does coffee shops get better deal than those sold at www.illyusa.com: http://www.illyusa.com/webapp/wcs/store ... whole-bean
I found lavazza beans at amazon.com are pretty reasonable, with 2.2lbs or 1kg at $17.5: http://www.amazon.com/Lavazza-Class-Esp ... 000SDO6PO/
Will I be able to find similar deals for Illy beans?
I say this out of respect for Illy and other foreign companies...... why would you want to find Illy, Lavazza, etc. when they will surely be stale once you receive them? I recently watched a show on how much dedication Illy has for their love of coffee and if you lived in the same area as they are located I'm sure you'd be getting premium product. BUT by the time those beans make it here (USA) they're surely crap. Same for Lavazza. Haven't heard anything positive regarding their freshness and as you should know freshness is the single most important factor in a bean. There are lots of online roasters that can accomodate your needs. Later!
Thanks for the advice, but the problem is I'm not using it in the USA, and there isn't single coffee roaster in where I'm from. There is a distributor, which sells 6.6lbs Illy for a premium price. So I wanted to buy it cheap from USA and send it home. Could you please recommend me where I can get cheaper Illy (like Lavazza mentioned before)?
If in UK, try www.hasbeans.com for single estate alternatives.
Much more interesting than Illy.
Remember Illy is pure Arabica and not so good with milk.
For an alternative branded product in UK, try www.pianocoffee.com for Lavazza products.
Gold Selection is hard to beat pound for pound.
Thanks, pianocoffee.com has a good offer, bu unfortunately they don't ship outside UK. Do you have a recommendation in the USA or someone else who ships internationally?
I just wanted to bring this back to life because i'm looking into buying the 6.61 cans. I found them on ebay and amazon for about $100 a 6.61 can, which breaks down to $9.75 per 8.8oz. Which is a really good deal! The next best deal o could find was $11.85 per 8.8oz can without shipping.
Now im curious to where i could find an illy grinder that uses the can! anyone have any ideas?
I use my Rossi RR45 grinder and made myself an adapter for the 6.61 Lbs Illy can. All you need is the original cap from the Illy can,
a holesaw (to cut a hole in the cap) and a piece of 2" (outside diameter) PVC pipe along with PVC cement. All available in the plumbing department at Home Depot. With a little ingenuity you can probably make yourself an adapter for most commercial grinders out there with the right size PVC or ABS pipe.
