Help with my Gaggia Compact!

I recently purchased a Gaggia Compact machine and I am still not convinced I'm making the best espresso possible. My biggest complaint is that it's never quite hot enough. Anyone have any tips on improving the output temperature? Secondly, any suggested settings for the grinder and tamper?

A simple tip to make your espresso's hotter is to heat the cups beforehand.

Heating the cups is a common trick used when making coffee, in fact some gaggia espresso makers should come with a cup heater sitauted on top of them.

Preheat your cup with hot water from the machine.

Grind a bit finer.
