My Breville 870XL has been in service for 7 1/2 years and has pulled 5,850 double-shots. At this point the grind amount is set to one increment less than the maximum, the grind is fine, pressure is in the middle of the gauge's 'black zone' with the descaling rubber disk in the basket, but is barely in the 'grey zone' when pulling a shot.

Using a double-wall, double-shot basket, a shot starts in 4 seconds and lasts another 13 seconds. Using a single-wall, double-shot basket, a shot starts in 6 seconds and lasts another 18 seconds. All attempts, now, yield a wet puck. A larger dose doesn't slow extraction more than those times. All results are thin, bitter, with no more than a suggestion of crema.

I'm pretty good at dialing in the machine, as it's my second one. The machine gets regular descaling, etc. Is there anything I can do, or is it time to strip it for parts and send the rest to electronc recycle?

have you checked to see if replacement burrs are available? Sounds like you may have dull burrs

I'm sure I can get new burrs for this, but... I'm getting the right grind size and amount. I don't understand how the condition of the burrs would affect all the other symptoms the machine has.
