Need to find out what kind of beans these are

Hi there, Im based in the UK and when I holidayed in Clearwater Florida I had coffee literally to die for. I need some kind of help tracing the origin of the beans used so as I can replicate that awesome flavour. Coffee that I don't like is the bitter type that is hard to enjoy or non-descript and bland and just looks and tastes like muddy water. That filter coffee in florida was very aromatic with not a hint of bitterness, it was also very very smooth and easy to drink. You would definitely not ruin it by adding milk and smelling it just smelt as coffee scented as you could wish for. What country of origin should I look into for beans that when ground produce coffee that is full flavoured and smelling, definitely not bitter, very smooth to drink and definitely not espresso like , definitely not bland tasting or weak and the kind of drink you can easily enjoy several cups of. I can take suggestions to a local coffee beans specialist and hopefully find out what that wonderful coffee was, thanks for any help.:coffee1:

Welcome to the Coffee Forums website. You will find a lot of information here.

Where were you in Clearwater Florida when you experienced the good coffee? Were you in a hotel, restaurant, or coffee shop?

It's going to be very difficult for you to duplicate the experience, especially since you really have very little clues regarding what type of coffee you enjoyed during your visit.

I bet now you wish you had asked the waiter or waitress about the coffee you were drinking while you were there.

Your local roaster may be able to help you find a coffee that you'll like just as much.

Peruvian coffee is well noted for its smooth aromatic taste. is there a way you can email them and ask? i've had the same experience on Catalina Island at a hotel off the coast of Los Angeles, and never asked them of the origin. that was several years ago, and the best cup i ever had. good luck on your investigation:smile:

Never pass on an opportunity to ask the person serving your coffee what it was. Probably 35 years ago I had a cup of coffee that I have since referred to as "it". I didn't ask. I have searched for it ever since. I believe it was largely Columbian but not entirely.

The coffee would you believe was in a diner across from the seastone hotel and was made in a drip machine, the server would carry the glass jug of hot coffee around the diner doing refills without even having to be asked.......when I compare this to UK diners there is simply no comparison, especially when you consider the drain water they serve. Im sure if a diner was using it then it wasn't top dollar coffee, but it had smoothness, aroma , balance and flavour that ive not tasted since that holiday.........I really should have asked the server where they got their coffee beans.

Try a Peruvian, as mentioned above or maybe Mexican Chiapas or high quality Colombian. I'm guessing you are looking for a medium roasted bean.

Btw, I doubt the bean or blend in question was anything special. Most diners I'm familiar with don't spend a lot on their coffee offerings. However, it sounds like the brew was fresh and they used good water.

Classix1969 had mentioned that he doesn’t like coffee before but after he tasted coffee in Florida, he is now become a coffee lover. It is normal that once the coffee flavor tastes great, you keep on finding it badly. As expected, once the coffee in most coffee shops in Florida is tasted, you always cling for its taste. If you want to know exactly the country origin of the beans use in Florida, try to ask the barista where you had a coffee. He will tell you exactly and giving tips on where to purchase reliable coffee grounds.

I think he said he had it in a diner by the hotel.. with an auto drip. Your best bet is to call the hotel find out the name of the diner then go from there.

I'm afraid Classix is AWOL. If he stayed at the location I linked to earlier, I found over a half dozen restaurants within a half mile. If he'd confirm that location, I could link to that list of restaurants and perhaps he could tell us which one it was. I'm not shy about asking restaurants about their coffee and I'd gladly ask if we can pinpoint which one he dined at.
