Hi all.
first of all i would like to thank all of you for all the info you have been sharing that money can't buy. i am really 100% happy with all the posative opinions i read here. you wouldn't find that in any other forum.
Now to my question. i am planning to start roasting coffee on small scale targeting a certain market group. i was looking into to designing my packing and was interested in tube kind of packing. could anybody advice me on the pros and cons of this tube packs.
are they good for roasted coffee beans? grinned coffee? all advice are welcome.
thanks

Here is an example for tube type packing

sorry i am not able to post link lovelypackage.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/lovely-package-regular-coffee-2.jpg

Those are great. I know few companies do use them. I personally know one of the people from regular coffee and they do really well with them. But it does take up tons of space when you are transporting 100 of those verses bags are much easier to carry.

yes CJ you are right on the point my worries is also about logistics.( transport, store etc )with this bulk packing but besides all that are they good in keeping the coffee fresh when compared to other packings? or can i only use them on roasted beans only?

It would be better for the freshly roasted beans since it does release the gas little easier but I would rather sell my beans in the bag with CO2 release valve. That way your beans stays much more fresh. I actually like small nice decorated brown bag for 1/2 pound bag for the quick consumption.

What do the containers have inside of them? Is it an insulated coating, or is the whole thing just cardboard?

They look like they wouldn't keep the coffee fresh much longer than the time it takes to get it home and put it into another container.

From a consumer standpoint, I wouldn't want to pay extra for it. Also, as you use of the contents of a bag, it at least can take up less room. That thing says the same size.

they come in diifferent forms. you could have them plain cardboard, insulated and sealed tin caps .

Keeping the coffee fresh is a key concern but beyond that, from a marketing standpoint, they'd certainly help you stand out from the crowd even if they are harder to handle. I looked at something similar for us but since you have to import most everything to Ireland the cost just got out of hand. I doubt it is that way in the States. So my question would be how can that packaging help you sell more coffee? If you're selling retail your package is your salesman and being different certainly can't hurt.

Another thing I'd want to know is, is it as easy to fill and seal as a bag? Will you have it printed or put your labels on yourself? If so, how time consuming would that be compared to doing the same with a bag? All those extra steps add up in time and money so I'd want to know about that before I made a commitment to buy several thousand containers.
