One time when i was away, someone used my blade grinder to grind fresh spices without my knowledge. Now, i am wondering how to get the flavor and scent out of the grinder so i can still use it without having to spend on a new one. Any help would be appreciated

You could throw some grinder cleaner tablets through- we use "Grindz" which is a Urnex product (details courtesy of Tom at Sweetmarias- http://www.sweetmarias.com/urnex.grindzFAQ.html), or if you want to try something on the cheap you could put some rice (dry, not cooked!) through. It has a similar effect. Both should help get rid of the spice residue.

I don't know if it will get rid of the smell, but I use a tablespoon full of sugar to get rid of the old coffee residue.

You can buy a new blade grinder for less then a bottle of Grindz.

Or you can up your quality of your grinder and spend around $100 for a good burr grinder and reap the rewards for a better grind.

Throw it away. My wife ground some cloves with my blade grinder once and I could never get the smell or taste out. Get a good burr grinder while you have the chance.
