My coffee shop has been open for two years now and I'd like to do something new... I've been thinking about doing my own roasting - small quantities of course, and I really haven't researched it yet. I was wondering if anyone else does this and:
a. Is it really that hard
b. What is the approximate start up cost to do this
c. Do you save money roasting your own beans
d. Did you draw a new crowd because of this

Don't do it

My advice, the extra labor costs will kill you, and if it is done at your cafe the smell will be over powering. Unless you plan on selling your coffee to others retail and wholesale with volume its not worth the headache.
